Fuel pump recall

I have a 2019 4Runner TRD OR mfg date of March 2019 which falls in barely to the period where the fuel pump needs replaced. When I check my VIN Toyota tells me my VIN does not have any service recalls. I am assuming that list is fluid and I can be on the list later????

 

Back when the recall started, my 18' wasn't included, then they added it, so it's possible that they may add yours.

 

Mine was on, then off, then on.

Got it done about a month ago.

 

As a tech with 25+ years experience I can confirm what charlievee states above - fuel o'rings do expand when removed. The fix is obviously a new o'ring but if you're in a pinch with no new replacement then you can, if the old o'ring is in decent shape, stick it in your freezer for an hour or so to where it contracts to normal size. It ain't the "right way" but I've got by doing that on several jobs where (usually a Friday afternoon) there's no available part locally and the customer just wants to be gone..

I was told it was replaced at Toyota in June and that I could stop by to get a copy of the work order.

 

Who else is affected by the fuel pump recall but are apprehensive to make appointment because of the O-ring issue? It seems most owners notice the O-ring issue within the first week or so, and another posted in this thread they did not run into the O-ring issue until several months had past. Given the increased importance of the O-ring for the recall, perhaps Toyota will be communicating an important "awareness" to their shops to take note of the O-ring - or even better yet, include a new O-ring with the recall service.

 

Maybe when setting up the appointment you could ask the service manager to make sure they order a new O-ring. I think the issue occurs when they re-use the old one. I might be mistaken, though.

 

Interesting thing. My daughter's 2019 Subaru WRX went in to the dealer today for a low pressure fuel pump recall. I wonder if they used the same pump as Toyota. Coincidence?

 

I just checked my 2016 and no recalls open....
