I thought that place looked familiar! Okay, now I'm kind of jealous that you were able to check those trails out. I'm all the way on the other side of the country, it's doubtful I'll ever get out that way with my 4Runner. I would like to think that if he goes out there and shoots videos, it's probably on the up-and-up.

I thought the same thing haha…I knew I had seen it on youtube with that reviewer that bought a 4runner.

Just to reiterate, you will love what will be opened up to your eyes when you start really looking at the maps. I recommend you stop at USFS visitor locations and pick up paper copies of the maps to supplement your digital copies, as it helps with planning, note taking, and daydreaming of your next drive.

Another benefit to having maps…sometime you might run into a know-it-all on the trail who insists you can’t be there… then you politely take out your map and ask them what forest road you are on…because you thought you were on (insert road number) and the map showed it was for highway vehicles. It’s never good to get into an argument with anyone in the middle of a forest, but if they see you know your shit, they might adjust their attitude a bit.

I was out in Seattle about 6 years ago and took our rental car out for a drive in the Olympic forest area. Such beauty out there. I turned off on a road that led to a scenic overlook and was treated to a climbing gravel road that went on for miles. I can’t imagine how many options you’ll have! Enough for a lifetime!

Just remember, we will require pictures :D

But you know if you want to really explore the nature, then you have to be a mountain goat and not rely on cars. Hiking trails will show you more than off-roading Trails.

Washington state is too expensive, my plan is to find a job in Wyoming and buy a house there. Wyoming is so beautiful

At least you have a vehicle that can get you close! It's nice to be able to drive to interesting areas and explore on foot from there.

I completely agree. When I lived in Arizona I went to Devils Bridge in Sedona when I was completely stock. Most of the people back there were walking and most of the vehicles back there were in the tour Jeeps. Let’s just say that when I went back there people were looking at me sideways like they were puzzled I was able to get back there. So instead of having to put my newborn on my back and chase 3 very outgoing boys. We were able to stay in our car. We went back a good ways where the only thing we saw were other off-road vehicles and sxs. Most of the hikers were all close to each other. Mind you this was during the peak of Covid when we should have been avoiding large crowds. It is great knowing we have that ability when everyone else has to park it and walk as the entrance has a boulder you have to get over.

thanks, I will have to compare that to other pictures. I have been searching online inventory looking for KDSS equipped 4runners, and have not been able to find anything to identify them.

Here is picture from my KDSS 4R. Note that thick swaybar, that's it. Also the skid plate looks different

    Here's the real give-away:

    sketch-1635358318320_(1).jpg

The hydraulic piston that controls the sway bar is in this boot. This is what allows the increased articulation. There's one in the driver's side of the rear sway bar as well.

Pinstripes, lots of em. Plus a couple dents.
There are a couple good phone Aps (Avenza & Gaia) now for navigating National Forest Service Trails.
Avenza is mostly free and Gaia is a paid subscription.

What's nice about these aps is they will track your location (while turned on) and leave you a trail that you can follow if you need to turn back. They also work off line without cell service / data.

Here's what I use in Missouri for Avenza:

    Avenza 2.jpg

    Avenza 3.jpg

    Avenza MVUM.jpg

I use Avenza and Gaia. Avenza is easier to read for me. With Gaia you can have a bunch of map overlays. Plus save you tracks a little easier. I find Gaia hard to read but like having both.

Pretty sure the National Forest Service recommend folks have Avenza loaded on their phones and use those MVUM maps.

None. Bone Stock. EXCEPT: Brushguard, tow hitch, both welded to the frame. It's good to have friends and a fully equipped garage!
Most of my kids live in Laramy. It just worked out that way when they got old enough to leave home. My oldest daughter is way off back east some place, and my youngest is here in Oregon, but my middle and two sons are in Wyoming. Well, the boys have no choice. One's in prison there, and the other's on parole...

OnX is another good one. Paid subscription, but definitely worth it if you spend anytime in the woods.
