I like the look of the tire but it’s not worth going thru all this nonsense. Especially then there’s more risk of having your wheels damaged with mounting and dismounting them.

 

They must have a bad run again. I bought a set in 19 and another February this year. They are perfect

 

so just FYI the Tire shop manager watch over the guys in the back and they broke the bead or the seal on one tire and rotated because it needed to much weight to be balanced just that and rebalance all four tires again he told me that the Tech was putting all the weight for balancing on the outer side edge of the rim and it needs to be on the interior of the rims and now i have no shaking i was told that there are two surface areas on the rims for the weight to be added on the outer edge and inner edge part of the rim i hope this helps i guess some of the Tech really do Not know what they are doing

well after some time like a week they started to shack really bad again, the tire shop told me that they went out of balance never have i heard that before this not good its crazy after trying two set of Falkens, i am going with Goodyear Duratrac . I have had no luck with the Falken tires so far like the Duratrac

 

Bummer, was really considering the wildpeaks on my 4R. I may now have to rethink that and look at other comparable options.

 

I run what my door placard says if it is stock size. If not, chalk test.

Do you have pics with the Falken MTs? How are they for you?

 

Personally, I think they are great. But i don’t mind a little road noise so that is one thing, and I do like how tuff, or durable they are, they take a licking and keep on ticking so to speak. I have run over things on, and off road and they handle the abuse well. But it’s like just about everything we do to our rides, different strokes for different folks, i had them on my 02 also.

 

they do look great. Even better because you have a silver SR5 as well so I can see how it would look on mine as well. In terms of durability, how many miles do you have on them so far? I know MTs tend to wear out faster than ATs.

 

To be honest, i do not purchase MT’s thinking about milage, but to answer your question, i have about 12,000 miles on this set, and they are barely worn. In my opinion if you get 35k-40k you have done good.

 

They both look great! What level/ lift did you go with on the silver one. I just ordered 285 and pretty much want that look!

 

I agree. I’m more concerned about premature wear or problems later on as they wear if that’s the case.

 

I am at 2 1/2” front with 2” springs at the rear.

This was on stock suspension. Now I am running the Eibach kit

 

285/70r17 AT3Ws with a 3” dobinsons lift.

 

I installed a set of Wildpeak AT3W SL in stock size on my 21 4runner and they are running rough. No vibrating, but it feels like I'm riding over potholes on the smoothest roads. The weird thing is, it doesn't feel that bad when I actually go over bumps. Its just a consistent rough ride. I've tried multiple PSIs, including 32 where I'm at now. Its worse at higher PSIs, but I don't want to go lower than 32. I plan to go back to the tire shop, but I'm sure they will tell me its normal for all terrain tires. Any advice?

Liked the 285s at3w on my wife’s 4runner that I just purchased the same for my GX. They’re sitting in the garage ready to be installed in a few days.

 

Have you owned AT tires previously?

They do have a bit of rolling resistance.

 

Just going to pickup the wifes new SR5 on Tuesday. Probably one of the first mods will be new tires. Nobody has really said anything about the ride.
I have the Wildpeaks on my 03 F250 Super duty diesel, 315s. I like them other than they ride like a lumber wagon. Had KO2s on before and they rode much better.
Although with all of the balancing problems you guys are having, I may have to look at a different tire.

 

All I can say is, if you like the KO2s and are wanting a tire that’s just as competitive in ratings and quality, but want a better price, go with the Wildpeak AT3Ws. Everyone says, well they aren’t made in the US, well neither are Most Toyota products.

These are a perfect hybrid between the KO2 and the Duratrac IMO. They appear to take from both of these awarded tires. My wife says she can tell that she’s not being shaken in her seat anymore over bumps and small rolling hills into road, since we got rid of the AT20s. Here are some shots of mine at stock height with 265/70r17 Wildpeaks and 1.25” spidertrax.

At this setup, I do have a quarter inch rub while hard left/right turning and reversing. The lift should fix it. Otherwise it’s completely fixable with pushing the front of the fender well forward.

Getting Bilstein 5100s on this week and will do the .85 notch. The tire feels like it has more weight to it and reminds me of my 285/17r17 E KO2s I had on the FJ. Really impressed with how they look and feel so far. Hoping to do some trails this spring/summer to give it more tests. I paid $815 for 5 at Mavis here in Glen Cove, NY.

Any issues with rubbing or otherwise before the lift? I am torn on 265/275 without plans to lift for a couple years.

 

275's will (generally) be fine without a lift, unless you get aftermarket wheels with a negative offset.

It's really the alignment and wheel offset that will affect rubbing. Other than that, trimming is the next step. Lift only helps until you flex the suspension.
