Well, major disappointment today. The shop I visited on Tuesday who said to come back this morning, where I dropped it off today, just called, and they want to 'make some additional modifications' which included cutting off the hanger and repositioning it. For an additional fee, of course. I told them to take my 4Runner off the lift, and DO NOT do any work on it, I would be by to pick it up. If they can't do it the way I left photos and instructions, leave it alone.

I will be looking for another shop. Rats. The guy the other day said 'No problem! We can do it just like that!' Yeah, right.

I had the hanger repositioned when I did this. Cleaner install and I would think stiffer as well. My guy used the ID spacers, welded them inplace internally, slid the tip over and welded in place. Solid and no extra fab required for the ID transition.

That was sort of the reason for the question in my last post. I could've just left the outlet side on the elbow longer, and perhaps angle cut the end, and it would have accomplished what you are saying. I personally am not going to get into too many situations where the tip is in danger of being flattened. Plus, I liked the look on @Saker's rig so much, I wanted to go that direction. If the OEM rear exhaust pipe section could be bent to the side, it would have saved a lot of cutting, fitting, and welding, though.

I've not had a chance to check that out yet, just finished this project yesterday. I will see if I can check that out.

I never had an issue with the smell. I did it because I like the side exit better.

I might go this route!
If you wheel often, I feel like you're bound to hit your exhaust tip more often. On the trails, I hear the mud flaps dinging rocks all the time.
