Engaging 4wd: lever vs dial

    Going to 4lo using the lever, even when doing it right, will sometimes gives a momentary grind. Shifting with cold gear oil might grind more. Usually though, if you make the shift swiftly, it wont. Also, I think it helps when you release the brakes for a moment to release tension before making the 4lo shift.

    I could imagine that the dial version always “throws” the shift at the same speed, and sometimes it just might do it slower than you could do it with a lever.

    I think I got the grind the first time I used it and was fine after that. A decisive shove is all it takes.

    Yes, that’s been my experience as well, you need to make the shift swiftly. In fact, if you don’t, and if you purposely throw the lever slowly, it will grind badly every single time.

    But the dial versions only shift with one level of decisiveness. Seems it might make it prone to a little more grinding in some situations.
