If you are not driving a hybrid 20k+ miles a year, I don't thinking you are saving any money on gas. Whatever you saved, you will spend to buy another stupid battery. For a Prius, you could spend $4000 to buy another battery pack and keep running the stupid thing. But what are you gonna do with EV, buy a $20,000 battery for it? Screw that. I would love to have a hybrid truck, but strictly for more power. A hybridized 4.0L in the 4Runner that puts out 350 hp and 350 lb ft of torque would be sweet.

If fuel economy is your thing, then why not a non hybrid lil 1.8L Corolla that could last 3 decades? Last time I checked they had 35 mpg.

The world is not kind to tall people. At 6'6" and 61 yrs old, I do not look forward to a midget car mandate.
I just recently drove my V8 out to Phoenix from Florida. Cost a shit ton in gas and I had smile on my face the whole time listening to that V8 Doug Thorley rumble. Never even turned on the radio.
So, I'm a lost cause trying to sell me on an ev midget car.

Your comfort is the most important thing. Life is short. Don't torture yourself in an Eco box to save gas.

    LMAO!
Sorry there pumpkin spice, didn't mean to trigger you. Someone mentioned a prIus (midget car). Yes, I do get outta Bubbaville, 30 weeks a year for work as a fiber optic tech. I have driven hybrid rental cars, many times. Nothing wrong with them, except they come with the myth that you're saving the planet.
I'm also smart enough to not watch msm. If you do believe the msm, how is it to be blissfully ignorant?
For accurate weather I check NOAA buoy reports and radar. Aannd I guess if growing up ever gets mandated, I will call you for lessons. I do appreciate your interest in my immature decisions in life. Now excuse me
I'm going to take my lithium bath.

Lexus TX and Toyota Grand Highlander, like Tacoma and Tundra hybrid, have hybrid system to give them more power. They don't give great has mileage.

Where/when are "midget" cars being mandated?

Is your '03 a V8? I had an unusual setup in my '03. It was an SR5, but it was a V8 and had leather and a moon-roof. It was like a Limited with an SR5 shell.

I ended up putting a Gibson cat-back on it a year or so before I traded it in. I ended up hating it after that. I love a good exhaust note when I'm on the gas, but I couldn't stand the droning on the freeway.

Where are you seeing these batteries die? I have friends who own teslas for over 10 years still going strong. believe me, I am no tesla apologist, but their batteries are not the problem.

I never said that midget cars ARE being mandated, but going all ev by a certain date has been at the core of the discussion. Hence the mandate reference.
As far as being selfish, I would never propose that someone has to drive a certain vehicle, but the discussion always circles back to the core of the debate, someone wants me to drive something else because of a belief. Not buying it, period. So, if that is being selfish? So be it. There will be plenty of ev and alternatives for anyone who can afford them in the future, of that I have no doubt.
The exhaust on this truck is not for everyone. If I keep it at certain rpms, it's not bad at all. So I adjust my speed on the hwy for traffic and the drone.
This week I have a Ford rental 4 cyl Turbo. Very quick, but it has its own annoyances.
So I miss my V8, which I built to my preferences. However, I fear we WILL NOT have that opportunity in the future.

    I guess I'm confused.

I'm not in favor of an EV mandate, either. I prefer that we're allowed to buy what we want, and let the market decide. I was just wondering where the "midget car" term comes into play.

I never accused anyone of being selfish, so I assume you're referring to another member.

We already know that EV's have a long way to go before they're a real solution for the environment. It sounds like new battery technology could be emerging, but there are still other limitations and drawbacks that keep me from being interested.

As fast as EV's are, they'll never have the charm of ICE sports cars. I enjoy a good exhaust sound, and shifting gears. I'll take a V8 or I6 any day, even if it's not as fast.

What type of mufflers do you have on the V8? The Gibson had a drone, but I know every exhaust is different. I had a Pacesetter header and custom exhaust with a Magnaflow muffler on my old Supra. It had a great sound at WOT, but was pretty quiet cruising.

Sorry, I read several posts at one time, probably got them crossed up.
There aren't many smallish vehicles/suvs that have comfortable seats for tall people. Which is why I threw midget car out there. The used Corbeau racing seats I put in the 4th gen, I now like better than my 5th gen LE seats. The Sienna is comfortable, but not me or in my budget.
Also, not very many people know what its like to be 6'6" and crawl out of a small vehicle in a tight parking spot. Its painful. So that's when I start cussing about midget cars.
I have the DT headers and Y pipe w a Vibrant Performance muffler. The muffler back is a bastardized hodge podge. It's loud at WOT and quiet at idle. The drone does have its moments at about 2200 rpms.
