That's a good question. I was wondering the same thing myself. I wouldn't think so, unless there's a regular battery in addition to the hybrid battery.

I was googling a little bit yesterday, and got the impression that a hybrid battery is a lot smaller and easier to replace than an EV battery. It's still a major potential cost worth considering, especially if it wipes out all or most of the money you save on fuel. It's also an environmental issue, if the batteries can't be recycled in any way.

When I speak about the possible advantages to hybrids and EV's, it's with the hope that there's a better power supply on the horizon. Batteries are the biggest issue with these newer vehicles, maybe aside from the politics involved. When you look at the environmental impact of these batteries, it really doesn't make any sense for them to be mandated. I'd also prefer to see the product improve to the point where more people actually want them.

The impact on the electrical grid is a whole other issue.

As of now, I wouldn't be interested in an EV in their current state, but I understand why some people would be. I just think it's good to have options.

Back in Great Grampa's day the less well informed swore that ICEs would never replace horses.

They were wrong then and their great grandchildren are wrong today...

Incredible amount of interesting responses to this Thread. Regarding EV's, it appears most (all) members are what they use to say: hip to the haps.
I've read that EV drivers today represent about 6% of drivers. And current sales could suggest that it stays at a 6-8% for the near future. I wonder what the sales of EV's would be if gas (at least in the Midwest) ever returned to under $3.00 a gallon, and the financial incentives for EV's was removed ?
So what does our current Administration do due to our lack of interest in EV's ? They double-down on EPA rules. Since we are not openly and fully cooperating with the Administration's and climate alarmists desires, we will mandate what we know as best for you and shove it down your throat.

I still believe the power brokers true, long term desire is to get people out of their vehicles and using public transportation. Sounds far-fetched, but it would be one of the perfect socialist's solutions. Driving offers too much freedom to these people.

I think in the foreseeable future those percentages may well go down. Between battery fires, battery replacement costs, huge additional risk to occupants and rescue personnel and the lack of a decent charging infrastructure the enthusiasm is beginning to wain.

I've seen California experiencing rolling brown outs and times they said not to use even air conditioners due to electric strains not to mention the prospect of charging EV's en-mas.

People wishing to be greener are beginning to realize two things. The huge cost to the environment excavating many, many tons of earth to extract enough materials for just one battery, while burning huge amounts of diesel fuel to do so. Also, the so called green EV's largely get their charge from fossil fuels rather than green power.

And I don't believe for one second that if you own an EV long enough it eventually becomes net zero.....not even close. The minig has a massive carbon footprint, the transportation of those materials has a massive carbon footprint, the manufacturing of the exotic batteries has a massive carbon footprint and the same goes for transporting those batteries around the world, and charging those batteries for as long as they are good. I don't even want to begin to think of the horrendous impact of the hazardous waste the spent batteries will make.

GM, Ford and other have already scaled back on production goals even though the EV industry is subsidized throughout the process. There are scrap yards in France and other Countries where they have determined EV's are not yet a viable or green solution.

I have no doubt EV's will be the future but it's not here yet. I will embrace the technology once it has matured enough to actually be a green solution and is capable of performing all of the tasks people currently have with ICE. The battery tech need to advance much further than it is today and I doubt I'll see it truely mature in my lifetime.

EV's are 100% the future but we aren't there yet.

As long as our US military is in the Middle East and not so much in Africa, gas cars will be tearing up the pavement. Lastly, what's good for humanity may not be so good for the controlling oil industry. And they control everything...

Bidenomics not working? Come come dear fellow, surely you must trust the narrative. Can anyone name the one agency maybe NOT controlled by the cabal? Hint: It has the letters D-I-A. The agency which the Chinese spy head defect to. The good guys have him, and he knows where all the skeletons are buried.

Well it can't happen yet, as too many people are still clueless. It has to get even worse apparently. It will probably start w/ a JB replacement first and progress to the brink of WW3, which will be used as an attempt to cancel/delay/control the 2024 election.
