Same here "Boomer". Can still learn. After about +/- 15 mins. with the ignition on, engine off and the radio on you will get pop up a message on your dash about battery drain and it will shut down. If you want to continue you would have to cycle off/on again. If it's running no such message.

The push button is there to save money and squeeze more profit. Every interior physical part they take away saves them a few dollars and to make it more comical, customers then end up paying MORE for the "tech", key ignition, parking brake, HVAC buttons, cruise control stalk, you name it.

Whenever I get in my older Toyotas I can do everything without taking my eyes off the road. For a long time I can get into another Toyota and not have to look and know how to operate most vital functions. But what do I know.

There are no questions that are dumb. Only answers. :hattip:Or, like Mr. Albert Einstein said, the only questions that are dumb are those that have not been asked...I did not know either, how to keep radio on with the engine off.

I prefer a physical key all around, but if I’m going to make use of the keyless entry feature (which I do) it adds to the functionality never to have to take the key out of my pocket using the keyless start feature as well.

If you got your 4Runner new from a dealer they should have provided a set of manuals. If they didn’t you should raise hell with them, and demand a set. If you didn’t buy your 4Runner new and the manuals are missing I think they’ll be reticent to give them to you. In that case you can, of course, buy them.

In addition you should go to the Toyota website and download them. There are four that you need: a QuickStart guide, the owners manual proper, a separate manual for the nav and infotainment, and the warranty and maintenance booklet. The advantage to having the PDF files is that they are searchable.

My paper manuals are still in the original cellophane.

See how valuable 4runners.com is? Not only did I learn how to use a feature my 4R doesn't even have, I now have a new word of the day. I had to look in the vocabulary manual to see what this meant.

For the older crew, do you remember when a truck had around a dozen features at most in the cab. Ignition, Gear Shift,
Radio dial(s), Windshield wipers switch, Heater controls, if you could afford A/C, an on/off switch. Hell that's 6. What am I missing?! Windows were hand crank. Need to adjust your side mirrors? Roll down the window and grab the mirror! Need to adjust your seat? Grab the handle under the seat and scoot your ass. Man, life was simple then!

I rented a pretty new uhaul box van just like this a few months ago. It was a breath of fresh air. You just have to find a way buy cheap fleet vehicles.

Although, those can a little too cheap. It didn’t have any sort of noise insulation. Zero. It was like having a v8 inside the cab. Drove it a few hours on the interstate and my ears were ringing by the time I shut it down.

Why should he look up reluctant? Are you just being recalcitrant? He already looked up reticent and knows what it means.

My used 4runner did not come with manual or floor mats. Grrrrr. But I found this poking around on the Toyota site:

To purchase copies of Owner's Manuals, please call (800) 782–4356 or visit www.helminc.com.

and ordered myself a nice old fashioned paper manual. Now if I could only get myself a nice old fashioned paper FSM I'd be in business...
