There was a report recently of a KTJO badly warping. I'm in Florida so that is a major issue for me. Also, last time I checked all they had in stock was factory seconds sold as "damaged."

Gotta drill. It's not difficult, but requires care.

Mine has seen a whole bunch 90F+ days in the Southwest, Midwest and deep South. It sort of widened out in the center about 3/16", but you'd have to be looking for it to notice it.

I posted recently about the KTJO pillar trim developing an unsightly bulge along the windshield edge. It bothered me enough that I went back to the oem trim cover with the Toyota grab handle, and haven't looked back. It still works great as a grab handle. You have to look very close to notice the difference from the passenger side.

I tried heating up KTJO pillar trim cover to reshape it, and it looked better. I may try it one more time.

maybe a dumb question, are there right hand drive versions of 4R? Can we use the trim piece and handle from them?

It doesn't appear they sell 4Runners in Great Britain, so maybe not.

The question now is, does Toyota manufacture a right-hand drive 4Runner? They may only offer other models, i.e. the Hilux instead of Tacoma, outside the US.

Are you using Jason’s bracket? Did you modify the oem trim cover or purchase an oem trim cover with the grab handle holes? Or does Toyota not sell them?
    Sorry for all the questions

Same for me! I was using the steering wheel but felt it might damage the wheel eventually. Ours took about 2 hours to install but my buddy and I actually READ the instructions, Did need 2 holes drilled (I think) but it looks good. I'm currently 300lbs and have a really bad right knee (2x broken kneecap, 1x broken ankle, & arthritis)

I don't mind any questions :) I did the original modification that this thread is about - Jason's bracket, installed, and a hole drilled in the oem A-pillar trim cover, and purchased an oem Toyota grab handle, ran that for quite a while. Some months later, I decided to get the KTJO grab handle setup (when they were still selling them) and was able to make it work with Jason's bracket, as that is a much sturdier mounting method for the bottom bolt. It worked fine, and looked exactly like the passenger side grab handle.

Fast forward to the recently discovered bulge in the KTJO A-pillar trim cover, which led me to go back to the modified oem A-pillar trim cover with the oem grab handle. If I can somehow get the bulge out of the KTJO trim cover, I will consider putting it back on.

I can’t remember now, I just tried researching; can you buy an oem left drivers A pillar with the same raised contours at the the bolt holes that the right passenger pillar has for handle finger clearance?

Seeing as how the DS handle was eliminated on the 5th gen 4R in the US, no. That is why the KTJO was so popular, it matched the PS look.

People are wondering if there is an international 4R version with right hand drive that may have the passenger left side with a grab handle. Unless Toyota offers the same model 4R internationally with the driver side on the right, my vote is no.

You didn't have to reposition the bracket at all?

After numerous attempts to contact KTJO customer service a few months ago by phone and email, I finally got a one word email answer to when/if they might restock with new kits. It said "Summer."

I don't always trust Wikipedia but this appears correct.

    upload_2024-6-17_21-35-41.png

"As of 2021, the 4Runner is marketed in the Bahamas, Bolivia, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Panama, Peru, the United States and Venezuela."

The only one on the list needing RHD would be the Bahamas, a tiny market compared to others. 4R seems to have been sold as "Hilux Surf" with a RHD version until 2005 but that disappeared. The Lexus GX didn't overlook the driver side grab handle. Sigh.

I had to adjust the brackets' hole slightly to line up the bolt in the KTJO handle. If I had installed them at the same time, it would have been easy to line up the bracket then.

    Too many to list.
Been considering this mod and really like the simplicity of KTJO but their quality seems to be less desirable..

I had their LED door handle product and it changes brightness and/or color everytime fire up the 4runner. Even more annoying is that no matter where in the vehicle I use the remote, there's always one LED that doesn't register. Hence making one dimmer/brighter than the others and none is really the same

It appears KTJO has them back in stock. Some have been happy with their kit, others, like me, have done a hybrid install with Jason's bracket. Had the KTJO A-pillar plastic trim not deformed a bit on one edge, I'd still be running it.
