I have them on the front doors of my 2020 MGM. I wish they were on the back door as well as they blend in way better than the black ones with goop inside.

You'll find out if have a door without them that bumps anything. Paint will chip off the edge at the point of contact.

Then there will be a chip on the edge guard and still a high possibility of damage to the door because the edge guard digs into the paint.

I would use a strip of ppf instead.

The edge guard is rubbery on the outside. It's a lot more forgiving than a bare edge.

I thought we were taking about the OEM painted metal ones.

I have the OEM ones. The paint on them is thicker and more elastic than the door edges.

I have a set for a rav4 in my office.
Owner saw the damage it left on his door when we took off the old set.
That's probably why it's still in my office. :D

My point exactly: the door does not opens by themselves, it is you, the driver, who opens a door and slams it into the next parked car, mine. It is me, who needs protection from your edge "guard".

Damn, settle down Francis, maybe he has a one car garage that is so fucking small he has to fold his mirror in to make it fit.

It's pretty close to that. The driver's door is the only one I can fully open in the garage, but that's only if I pull so far forward that I can't open the hood. I have to slither out if I leave room for that thanks to the forward pole.

spotted this MGM 4Runner in the parking lot...

door edge guards could have prevented this

Per Toyota, these are thermo-plastic coated stainless steel. I imagine the thermo-plastic coating would be similar to what the bumpers are made of. I'll find out when my order arrives today.

    thats what they feel like...
    plastic wrapped around metal...

I left mine in the sun for an hour or so, they got easier to bend...

mine did not come with instructions, but said to check TIS for the instructions...

the driver and passenger come individually wrapped and marked and are slightly curved to fit the door
you gotta make sure the one you are installing is not upside down, just notice the curve of the door vs the curve of the edge guard
I used alcohol and a shop towel to wipe down the edge of the door (front and back) before install
I started at the bottom and started the edge guard on the door, and while holding it in place, began tapping with a rubber mallet working up the door

when finished, went back over it with the rubber hammer from bottom to top and back again

ETA: I wiped down the 4runner door edge with alcohol prior to install , not the edge guard

I have padding on the poles, but not on the wall side, since it has tools on it. I also have padding on the inside of the garage door so I can open the liftgate safely. In 48 years of driving, I've never dinged anyone's doors and I'm not removing my factory edge guards.

Getting ready to install these. Question - how do you know the starting point?

    Look back at post #21...

Notice how the edge guard goes to about 1/2 inch above the lower door crease and extends above the door handle cup?

I used that pic as a guide, then lined up the guard, without trying to fit it...
you can tell which is the top and the bottom of the guard cause of the curve, just make sure the curve follows the door...

after I had the guard lined up like I wanted, I began gently placing at the bottom...just using my hands to push it in place
you can get a couple of inches at a time this way
then, starting at the very bottom...use your rubber mallet to tap it in place
then move upward using the hands only method to seat it...followed up with the mallet

after you have the whole guard in place, go back of the whole thing...tapping with your hammer to make sure its seated

something I thought of after I installed them...

I wonder if one could buy another set and cut them in a few places...then using the cut pieces install them on key points of the rear doors and bottom edge of the front doors.
basically sacrifice another set to get increased coverage not provided by the two front guards...

what do you think? would that work?

I did see post 21, but thought I would check with you since you seemed happy with the install. I did go on a walk a bit ago, and saw a new model lunar rock 4Runner that had the oem door edge guards installed and was able to check those out. I believe those were about 3/4" from the crease at the top, and a tad more, maybe 7/8" on the bottom, so I don't imagine it's super critical, as long as they are within that range.

I did find a YT video, but the guy's hard to watch. I don't know why people make videos that talk about everything else but what the video's supposed to be about...plus, the door edge guards don't even come out of the box until about the 4:00 minute mark.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FpomH_G_4XI

BTW, he thinks he got shorted the 'rear guards' but doesn't realize they don't offer those...

Personally, I don't see needing to add separate pieces, but no reason not to if you want. I pretty much only use the front doors most of the time, and these seem to work for that.

    Thanks again.

I like that guy's truck, but that video is useless...
he spends about as much time talking about his oil cap...as door guards
I thought Viking's garage was bad, but that guy is worse

But if he found those rear guards, I'd be interested
