This is another cool spot on that trail. I managed to get a spot in the Tacoma World calendar with this picture. This is the section I waited until after I got two kids to attempt.

Spent the last week and a half on the FS roads and ORV routes between the Porkies and the Huron Mountains in the UP.
Checked out a lot of the old mining sites and old Railroad grades.
Spent all day today cleaning the filth inside and out and polishing out the scratches in the paint.
Found out the back hatch makes for good cover in a downpour until you close it and get soaked.
On my Dobbs lift I just ended up with 1 5/8 up front and 1 3/4 in the back empty.
Works good when loaded and if I hook the boat up.
Didn't affect the mileage that I could tell.
Got 22mpg coming back across the UP.
That's with the lift,Toyo AT3 265's,RCI sliders,SSO bumper and winch,LFD transfer case skid and loaded with gear and dogs.Running 67mph.
Dropped to 17.4 mpg in southern Mi running 78 mph and into a 30 mph head wind.
Checked the odometer 4 times on the mile markers.Everytime it would read 29.9 miles at the 30 mile mark.

I would love to pick your brain for recon purposes, if you are willing. Are the locations you went through on Ottawa NF land? Ive got the three MVUM maps for them.

Mostly Ottawa.Have a camp at Bruce Crossing and have been hunting the NF in that area for the last 50 years.Things have really changed they shut down tons of trails you used to be able to drive on.
I have Gaia on my phone hooked to android auto.Have the MVUM,Gaia Topo,USGS Topo and Mines and Mineral layers all saved and they come up even with no cell service.Plus I have my Garmin Montana mounted too that I can turn on and see when I'm getting close to an area that I have saved to hike too.Lots of 1850's mines that are long forgotten you can still find.Old stamp mills, townsites and poor rock piles that you can still find copper at.Biggest problem I had this year was lots of logging going on in the NF and meeting the logging trucks head on on the narrow roads.I noticed when used to meet one of those trucks with my old rusty pickup they would move over and wave now with this 4R they don't move over and would just as soon punt you in the ditch.
Lots trials on the Timberland Companys owned property all open to the public in and around the Huron Mtns.

Wow, that does sound very interesting. Regarding Timberland Co land, do they publish a map, or is it local knowledge?

Amazing what’s hidden out there to find!

I don't think they publish a map but OnX Hunt or Gaia with a premium subscription shows the land ownership.
If you want to camp on their land you have to get permission and acknowledge that if anything happens to you they're
    not responsible.
