    LOL! Mind. Properly. Blown.:boom:

    :laugh::laugh::laugh:

Respect for learning Tagalog. How long before you felt you could defend yourself in that language?

And more importantly, what would a 4runner be called IN Guagua?

I would say year eight things got where I could hold conversation and feel like I could talk and listen a few minutes straight.

Sadly the 4Runner is not imported to the PI, however the Land Cruiser Prado is super common there (Lexus GX). The local language is not used to name vehicles and usually the Japanese or Australian name is what carries over. Filipinos mix their P's and F's a ton, so the 4Runner in Guagua would be called a "Pour Runner":bananadead::bananadead::bananadead::bananadead::bananadead:

Heres a fun fact tho, the Mitsubishi Montero that we receive in the Western Hemisphere is called the Mitsubishi Pajero in the Philippines and Japan :kona::kona::kona::kona::kona::kona:

I call it a truck with everyone when I'm not home. At home I call it the 4Runner since we've also got a Tundra just to make it more specific.

I suspect "crossover" is a term thunk up in some marketing department after gluing 4WD/AWD to a sedan design where the roof happens to remain at the same height until it meets the rear window.

Maybe conversationally cumbersome, but I call it an SUV. The term "truck" is only licensed to anything which can carry a refrigerator home. And IMHO the previous double cab Tacomas with a 4' bed barely reached that metric.

I agree, cross over = equinox, rav 4, hell even the new explorers and grand cherokees are looking more like cross overs.

I believe a crossover is defined as a unibody SUV. some are FWD, so AWD isn't even a factor.

    From the smart internet

A crossover, crossover SUV, or crossover utility vehicle is a type of sport utility vehicle-like automobile built with unibody construction. A term that originated from North America, crossovers are based on a platform shared with a passenger car, as opposed to a platform shared with a pickup truck.

It is LIKE a suv, but not a suv.

It's a textbook SUV, plain and simple. But as said before, that's pretty cumbersome in conversation, so I usually call it a truck. Also. I have 2 little boys, so TuRD is probably most common.

I usually use its name, Appa. I never use SUV and use car more often than truck. I guess it's because I grew up off an on in Montana, which denotes trucks with a T on the license plate. SUVs don't get a T, so they're cars. Pickups do, so they're trucks.

My wife’s van is called beauty and my 4Runner is called beast. So we have beauty and the beast. But otherwise I call it 4Runner or Truck. Never called it SUV. The only time I say car is to ask which car/vehicle are we going to take?

So, if it smells like a steak, then I can call it a truck?

    I think I like that.

Only asking because I was grilling steaks in the driveway yesterday, and the guagua was in the driveway with the windows open. Which meant I was smelling deliciously marbled grilled ribeye steak all the way into work this morning

It doesn’t officially seat 35, but where there’s a will, there’s a way. Heck, I’ve seen willys jeeps with half that many aboard when I was a kid, so it should be possible.

So, it’s nerdy, but I call mine the Blue Dragon. Because it’s blue, and like the conversation implies, it’s a cross between a truck and a wagon, or a tragon.

Linguistically: Consider that D and T are essentially homophones of differing contexts, and that the voicing of the final consonant of “Blue” would often, in context, naturally elide the T (unvoiced) into into a D (voiced). So tragon becomes dragon phonologically when following the word Blue (or any word that ends in a vowel or voiced consonant). That was my way of arriving at a unique name that I could be relatively certain nobody shares a justification for.

But call it whatever you want. 90% of the time you’re around your own haunts, nobody will care what you call it anyway, and the rest of the time, nothing you call it will make anyone else happy.

Truck. I grew up with Suburbans, Silverados, owned a 1995 GMC Jimmy 4x4, currently have a 14 Silverado parked with the 4Runner. I've had numerous cars, but the vehicles listed are all trucks in my mind. For years I argued that the S10 Blazer/Jimmys were the last real midsize "Truck" SUVs. My reasoning was not only the BOF design, but the solid rear axle, high/low T-case, and more robust steering gearbox over the rack and pinion that never should have left the car segment. I didn't know anything about 4runners at the time and if my vehicle history doesn't say it we were a GM family. The lines have blurred over the years, and sadly the crossover/SUV market is basically the same damn thing in my eyes. Our Silverado is about to become a driveway/tow queen when we get a new Tahoe Z71. I'll have a hard time calling that a truck with its 6" of ground clearance under its IRS lower control arms.

Either way I have my own definition. A truck is a rugged, BOF, vehicle built to do more than just transport people, or not built with car-like underpinnings and road manners in mind. Whether it has a pickup bed or a enclosed cab is a moot point.

    Tundra/Silverado/F-Series/(cough)Ram: Pickup-Truck
    Sequoia/Tahoe/Suburban/Expedition: Truck
Tacoma/Colorado/Ranger: Not so mini anymore Trucks
    Explorer/Durango: SUV
Current Blazer/Edge/Escape/Bronco Sport/Traverse/Equinox/Every other thing like them: Crossover
4Runner/hate to say Bronco: Own breed of Truck, but we'll see how people feel when about that Bronco after 100k+ miles.
Today's Wrangler: Garbage (I'll happily take any older 4.0L manual trans model for a toy though)
    Ford Maverick: El Ranchero Redux
