Oh my God. They raped your wife without a kiss. That's crazy money. It's not that good of a filter. I got K&N cabin filter for under $50 I think. It's not charcoal activated but I don't have to buy another one. As long as it filters pollen, I can live smelling my rosy flatulence.

If the so called good dealerships don’t like to be considered scum they should be demanding that the corporation have the bad dealers removed from the ability to sale that brands car.

if the distributor and manufacturer are as much to blame as all the other dealers. They allow bad actors to rip people off and do nothing about it.

This is why all dealers are crooks and should be placed on the same bucket of scum.

also don’t get me started on the distributors i.e. SET and GST. They are full of marketing people that help scumbag dealers pull this crap along with the rip off “port installed” crap that gets put on the Monroney tricking the customers that it’s a factory item.

It all comes down to honesty and how well you want to do your job. Only reason I used a dealer is working there.

It’s funny I stumble upon this thread, it’s time for the Rav4 Prime service, I thought 240 bucks was a lot for, oil change, tire rotation, cabin filter change, air filter change, inspection and cleaning of a filter related to the charging, and then inspection and top off of fluids. But factoring in 80 dollar filter replacements, I might be getting the deal.

where is a good place order the filters online?

You are correct but here's the rub. For those of us that live in rural parts of the Country dealerships are few and far between. My next closest dealership is about two hours away. All it took for me was the "free" first service to ensure I would NOT be getting the second free service or anything else from my local dealer.

As is super common (i.e. many people report the same thing), my dealership did not bother using a torque spec when tightening my oil filter housing or drain plug. This is at 4k miles on a new 4Runner BTW. They clearly used an impact gun and thought as tight as they can get them would be good. I had to use a long breaker bar and my foot wedged against the front tire to break them loose. I am surprised nothing broke. Using proper torque specs is the very most basic fundamental of simple mechanics and they completely failed.

I don't know what it's like where there exists a greater saturation of dealerships, but due to my bad experience I will never trust a Toyota dealership again. Hearing stories of gouging like this cabin air filter are all too common as well.

They try to take advantage of everybody. Gender and age doesn’t make you a target anymore than anyone else. I’ve had more attempted nonsense pulled on me by service departments but I know enough to usually know if they’re trying to rob me.

I tried to get drain and fill transfer service and most wanted to sell a flush instead of what I asked for.

Exactly…. It’s a numbers game to them. If they don’t ask for the sale it will never be made. If you say no they make no sale and it doesn’t matter if the no comes someone with knowledge or no knowledge.

if you don’t ask for a yes it’s always a automatic no. This is the same tactics the car sales team uses.

remember the “ service adviser” is just a salesman.

Exactly right. Everyone is making money off the techs back. More they sell more they make. In the end a car dealer is a car dealer. They can't make enough money being honest.

Won’t name the dealer, but was in for an oil change on my old 4Runner and explicitly told them to do nothing else. No free inspection, don’t touch anything except the oil and filter. While walking the lot to kill time my phone rings and the advisor says “I’m looking at your air filter, and honestly it’s probably one of the worst I’ve ever seen.” That’s nice I said, what brand is it? “Uh, Denso.” That’s nice, mine is a Wix which I replaced last week. Nice try.

Wait. Did the forum post say that sometimes the arrows on the cabin filter should face away from or in the direction of air flow? Depending on the brand? I cannot remember. Lemme research this for 15 minutes for something that takes 30 seconds or less. hahahaha.
