Dealer oil change would be laughable...

I skipped it on my first (and only) change so far and it was messier - it was a little annoying since a used canister filter is pitched after but this one goes back on, I’ll try the drain next and see how I feel.

 

So you drained the oil via the drain plug, and it was still messy? I am thinking the oil must settle to a level above the mating point between the engine and the filter canister?

 

Oh no I mean I didn’t drain it the first time, I’m waiting until my next change to use the drain tube tool thing and compare

 

I meant drained via the oil pan’s drain plug first?

 

I've tried with and without the plastic spigot.

It was messier without the plastic spigot.

 

I personally always drain the pan first
