None. Bone Stock. EXCEPT: Brushguard, tow hitch, both welded to the frame. It's good to have friends and a fully equipped garage!
No, they use the low Kelly Blue Book value. If it's at least 70% of the repair, or more, they total it. They don't use actual value you could sell it for, they use the KBB, and that get's low fast, as the age increases. Don't take anything but the cost of ALL the new parts it needs, AND the cost of labor. Like, say, if the damage is $1000.00 to repair, including labor, parts, etc, and the low KBB for that year, and model, is $750, they total it.
That's why it seems like they total vehicles that are slightly damaged, and still worth repairing. To their way of thinking, no, they're not worth repairing.

Good luck in court! I hope your laywer tears them a new one. Or at LEAST makes them pay the repairs! Maybe some extra for your pain and suffering, loss of use of the truck for 4 weeks, etc.

    Have fun!

Looking great! Glad the result is so good.

Now, go tear the insurance company a new one. It may be a small new one, to them, but it's important to keep them in their place :D

Am I the only one that thinks this repair is nuts? Quick search shows they are available and cheap.

always love hearing from self assured experts in collision repair...genius!..to answer your question, NO. it wasn't NUTS to spend that money in repairing my 4 runner. It was WORTH every @#$%ing dime that originally came out of my pocket. The icing on the cake, is when the insurance company was ordered to write me a check, for the money spent. On the flip, it was NUTS for some one to even suggested I was crazy to spend 'x' number of dollars..to save my vehicle from the junk yard...and here's a news flash Einstein, I would have spent the same amount..even if the court didn't reimburse me.....of course, everyone of these so called replacement 4runners, could have potential issues..including frame rust...and then trying to figure out when timing belt was replaced, trans flushed, etc

I think most of us here have rigs that are far FAR superior than the random junk on-line.

I just bought a new rack and tie rods from TOYOTA and after that goes in, she's going to have had about 80% of her worn out suspension replaced. My car is rust free with original exhaust. It has a new AC compressor and a new Throttle Body and runs like a dream. I replaced everything in the gas tank. Replaced the entire evap system from the engine back, all new TOYOTA hoses, plugs/wires etc. No aftermarket. No cheap Chinesium products.

That Plymouth, MA rig, is going to be rusty. I can guarantee it's going to need like $4k in parts and probably will still not be up to the level of my car.

So, yeah, it's worth it to get it repaired if you know what you've got into it. I know tomorrow, if it gets hit, I might get like $5k for it but I'd probably pay $10k to get her fixed anyways.

exactly...first of all-around the time frame my 4runner was damaged..and I was considering letting the insurance totaled her, there wasn't much out there in regards to 3rd generations..most were badly beat to heck, interiors wore out, carpets non existing...frames were rusty..in the 2-5k range....I was surfing the tri state area...i.e. TN, ARK, Miss,...el zippo...even surf out towards the west coast..a few very nice...but the asking prices were between 12-20k....ouch !...the 4runners I saw from up north, Michigan, Ohio, MA, maine, etc..seemed to be ok, but I'm leery about frame rust, lord knows, I've spot welded a few in my day, for other friends...and it would be very important for me to be able and crawl underneath and see in person, what rust, if any..was present....So I made the decision to spend the money to REPAIR my vehicle...and I know exactly what I have ..and what repairs etc were done...over my tenure...of owning my 4runner...it wasn't rocket science...why, I spent the money to repair her...

It's a good question to ask, though. 10 years ago...maybe it would be a different answer.

I wouldn't answer the same if I had a 2003...I'd probably just look for a newer one of that generation and let mine be totaled.

3rd gens are in that transitional odd spot, they are starting to move from just being used cars and into the (dare I say) "collector" market.

There are plenty of good examples are still out there. Prices for those are going up.

BUT there are still even more rigs out there that are just junk. Rusted and thrashed by teenagers, they are ready for the pick-a-part.

If the question had been asked early on, with no other information, on any old 4R of that generation, it would be valid. But, 70 replies in to this thread, with all the details given as to the repairs being done, and why, plus the plan for reimbursement from Allstate - not so much.
