You're in luck weather wise. Winds are supposed to settle with temps below triple digits. Enjoy!

Mate, I've sold 2 vehicles to them in the past. My partner's 2016 Rogue, when we picked up his 2020 Tacoma, and of course, my 2019. The Rogue, they had the cheque to us in 7 days via Fedex. The 4Runner, not so much. It took them literally 26 days to send the cheque to me. Good thing I already had the 2020 4Runner in our garage. What's interesting, my 2019 sold the SAME DAY they listed it. What I feel happens is, they depend a lot on customer financing. The new buyer buys the car you sell them, and once they get payment from the buyer's bank, they send you your cheque. Not very nice if you ask me... What's even more interesting, I started calling them daily after day 18, and at one point, they couldn't even find my vehicle in the system. When I threatened legal action, they finally ponied up.

Just hang in mate and stay on them. Don't let them roll over you.

    Cheers,

    Sean

I found a 2012 Xterra with only 39K miles on it, but they wanted $21.5K which is about $10K less than new a decade ago. They wouldn't budge so I decided to keep the Pro even though VROOM offered me almost $55K for it. VROOM was definitely the highest with the most stress involved. Lack of aftermarket support for the Xterra also makes it less than desirable. I'm going to miss out on an incredible opportunity to get out of debt, but I love my 4R so much. Plus the fact that I have the 4R set up exactly how I want it. And if I built the Xterra up it would be a $30K truck that is worth $10K when the market corrects.

Sold! Went woth carmax since the deal was walk in and out with a check in 3” minutes and the amount was guaranteed. Vroom wasn’t working for me for a few reasons- mainly I didn’t already have another vehicle.
I made a nice chunk and drove it for 3 years. Pretty cool

The Sales Rep at my local dealer says they never have more than 2-3 in inventory at one time. Sometime between shipment from Japan and the local dealership the 4R's are sold.

Was your 4runner fully paid off or did you have some of it financed? Curious how they handle payoff and pay you the equity on it.

You would think that the market will see a correction sometime this year (?) But I've read that the chip shortage may continue through at least part of 2022. Don't know. What will be interesting to watch early next year, is how difficult it will be to get a 2022 4R ? Supposedly it will be the last year of the 5th Generation. And Toyota will likely spend much of late 22' gearing up for the 23'Model. There may be a mad rush starting in early 22' to get a 4R - 5th Generation while they still can. LOL If that happens, there won't be any incentive for dealers to discount any 4R.
Of course I'm just speculating here. But anyone that wants a new 4R and is still sitting on the fence thinking they will wait and get a 2022 might consider jumping sooner for a 2021. That's what I did to play it safe.

I had an outstanding loan balance as well as equity. Part of the process was bringing in the loan docs which they used to contact the lender and pay off the loan. At the same time they cut a check for any equity remaining. Pretty smooth process.

Alright gents. 4Runner is officially gone. Carmax offered 44k even and I took it. There was more money in carvana ($500) and vroom (about $1200) - bud I did not like their terms and just how the whole process went. So, carmax it was.
Now, it looks like I will be picking up a gx470 for my towing and road trip needs :)

I cashed out too. The sticker price on my 2020 SR5 was 42,030. (I had them put on the running boards, etc. on top of that, but I think my out the door price was $37,900?) Got $42,000 for it. Hated to let it go, but felt like a financially prudent decision.

Are the 4Runners not all that they are claimed to be in that owners are willing to jump ship after a relatively short ownership period? I am still strongly considering a 21 or 22 Pro with my only reservation being the poor MPG - and I refuse to pay above MSRP. Just curious!

Same. I did myself of credit card bill and a $600/month payment. If I jump into a gx470 - I’ll pay $200/month which makes sense as I just want a comfortable towing machine now

I’ve enjoyed mine a lot. But, I did have to come to terms that where I live there are just very few opportunities to do what I was envisioning to build my 4Runner for. Overlanding is very appealing and 4Runner fit the bill perfectly. But, after I did some actual off-roading with it and then tried a side by side - I’ve decided that side by side is a lot more fun. As a commuter - 4Runner is not the greatest either. Gas mileage is horrible and the ride shows age. So, in all honesty - highlander would’ve been a much better choice for me. But the looks and off road capabilities of the 4Runner is what drew mw in.
And then - towing …4Runner CAN tow - but it is loud and strained at about 4klbs load. My mpg were @ 9…. So, for me - 4Runner just no longer made sense. A truck, or a bigger suv with a v8 is what I need - and gas is not an issue as I commute in my Lexus mainly.
Now, if I lived elsewhere where there are some nice scenic trails to ride that are closer than 6 hour drive one way - I’d reconsider keeping it. Now that I’ve bought a KRX - 4Runner just makes no sense for my needs.

Makes perfect sense! I am located in MD and fantasize about hitting the trails out west for excursions, but the reality is how often will I really be able to do that! I have a 2016 Subaru Crosstrek and a beater 2002 Chevy Suburban, so between the two of them I am able to access all of the mountain bike trails, ski resorts, and hunting and fishing spots, etc. I can actually sleep in the Crosstrek and there is plenty of space in the Suburban. The 4R would be a cool rig to do this in my approaching retirement years (2 - 4 yrs). You folks out west are blessed to have so much of this terrain within your reach and make the 4R such a feasible choice!

The only reason I didn't trade my 4R is because I love it and whatever else I get will be way less cool to drive. Not many vehicles are just a cool vehicle and the 4R and Jeeps are it for me. And no Wrangler will drive like the 4R. And driving another Grand Cherokee sounds awful. I would drive an Xterra, but there is literally almost zero aftermarket support now for them. My 4R will always have one of the best resale values so I can at least drive something cool, fun, capable and reliable. I couldn't name another vehicle that fits that description. If I had another vehicle then maybe. Having to replace the 4R doesn't save me enough money to make it worth it. Another factor is my 4R is setup perfectly for my needs and doesn't need a thing. Every other vehicle would need thousands of dollars of mods. I've never had a vehicle that I love as much as the 4R.

Well said and I concur! I think that is why I really want one! It fits my needs and looks great while doing so! I have had a 77 and 76 Ford Bronco, 88 4Runner, 02 Suburban (still have), 06 Jeep Rubicon Unlimited and am now driving a Crosstrek! The 4R will fill the void that I currently feel (real or imagined). Order a 21 now, or wait to see what the 22 has to offer and hopefully be able to pull the trigger on a 21 or 22? That is where I am and sorry for sounding like a broken record!

I was just told by a sales rep that you can no longer order a 2021 Pro 4Runner. That will make the Lunar Rock the rarest of the 4R's!

Pretty much. When you look up 'automotive sales rep' in the dictionary, the definition is 'One prone to saying anything to make a sale'.

Very doubtful. But, anything is possible. At this point I'm thinking the 2022 will come in CHIP - whatever that color is?

Parted ways with mine for a couple reasons. First and foremost- the price was right. Secondly- I’m really anal about my vehicles especially one that has a high value. The noisy engine really tested my nerves and that coupled with an easy way out was all I needed

I am happy for anyone who can benefit from this! What an odd time for "used" 4runners to climb @ such a rate.
