Best tires for stock 4Runner

Looks to be replacement for the AT3 4S but looks a little meaner

 

I just replaced my stock Nitto Grapplers (after 68K) on my 2022 TRD Pro.

I researched a LOT, and the top two I was considering were Nitto Ridge Grapplers and Falken Wildpeaks. however, the Nitto Terra Grapplers that came stock were not doing well on wet pavement after they had a little wear so I looked into that aspect of the two tires I was looking into. Both seemed to not do well in that category.

I ended up going with Firestone Destination M/T2 and I absolutely love them. They look great, they aren't too noisy on the highway, the tread depth beats BOTH of the other brands, and off-road and wet pavement (so far) I have zero complaints.

Nice thing about these is that they come stock on a the Wrangler and Gladiator Willys models, so there's often pretty new sets of these for sale as takeoffs in 255/75/17 size.

 

I am having my stock Nitto Terra Grapplers (after 52,300 miles / 30 months) on my 2021 TRD Pro replaced with Toyo Open Country AT3's in stock size today. Looking for forward to having some new tires after doing a good fishtail two weeks ago on a wet road. Should be an improved tire for the snow too, if we ever get snow again here in Maryland. I like the snow, but no snow means no salt on the roads!

 

Uh too many stock size tires haha. Just cut and chop to fit 35s. Eventually we all move up tire sizes. Installed 35x12.50r17 KO2s and no rubbing.

 

I have only driven 10 miles with the new Toyo OC's, but the ride is much smoother and quieter than the old tires. The annoying Pro exhaust is noticeable again!

 

Yes, the Nittos were great until they got a decent amount of wear on them, then fishtail city in the rain!

I also like the tall skinny look, and with a TRD ORP stock wheel, stock suspension, do you know if the 255/80/17 rub? Thank you!!

 

I am not sure. You will have to try to find someone who has tried it. I can tell you that a lift does NOT increase tire clearance on Toyota ifs

But if I keep close to stock offset, a 1-2” lift could make space IF the 255/80 does rub

 

For those Limited folks with the OEM 20x7 wheels, 275/55s will fit (no rubbing with mine yet), and look a heck of a lot better than the 245/60 all-seasons which came stock. A good source to order tires is "simpletire.com", they have free shipping and various discounts if you're eligible (military, first responder, etc). I've ordered numerous sets of tires from them for a variety of vehicles I used to have, had them shipped to a FedEx office and picked them up there. You could also get them shipped directly to a tire store to have them mounted and balanced.

 

I just swapped out the stockers for some Yokohama Geolander X-AT's (also stock size). Can't wait to get them dirty!

 

Those are nice looking tires. Great option for the limited.

I took that picture back when it had 285’s. Now it has 265’s same tire type and original rims. Still looks the same.

Vehicle Usage: Wife’s Daily Driver.
Weekdays Mainly Highway - Arizona. Dry, Rain, Snow, Minimal Ice.
Weekends - trails around Sedona, Prescott, Camp Verde and local forest areas

Prefer a tire that is quiet on the highway and aggressive enough for our usage.

1) Looking for real world feedback of experience with this brand and model.
2) Any recommendation of size other than what it came with? [265/70-17]
3) Any other recommendation beside this tire?
4) I will be selling the tires that came with the 4Runner. Approx 600 miles on them. Any thought on a selling/asking price?

KO2 jack of all trades for the 4Runner jack of all trades. There is a reason it is the best selling truck tire.
I have E load 285/75/R17s, and they haven't disappointed on any terrain, from muddy and snowy PNW trails to Death Valley wash boards to rocky Northern CA trails.

 

I'm also waiting for more reviews of this tire. I had AT3 4s on my Tacoma(in 255/75/17) for 4 years and and like 42k and loved them. Similar usage to your needs though without any desert trails and maybe more snow and ice up here. I was bad about rotating them or I bet I could've gotten well over 50k. I have tried talking myself into a more aggressive tire but if I'm honest I dont need it, and these R+T sidewalls will probably fit the bill. Top of my list for now.

I'm sure you saw this but I'd agree w everything said about the AT3 4s, and in turn would believe their opinion on the R+T
