Yeah, I was looking to replace the stock 265/70/R17 tires until I can get the lift done, then I'll go with a beefier tire. I have some trail rides planned before the lift and don't really trust the stock tires for the type of trails we'll be going on.

Are these SL or E rated? Looks good for sure but SL does not suit me needs.

I am just happy that the legend responded to me
Very keen on getting the MT Baja Boss 285/70r17 in E rating next but worry about its 63lb weight so asking which kind the red truck has

    Lol!

Sorry, I had seen a post earlier where you said you weren't sure what load range the stock tires are, and didn't even notice that the red 4Runner had Mickey Thompsons.

I will say that my 295/70/17 MT's are 65# apiece (I think) and the ride quality is fine. Obviously fuel economy suffers, but we're all about smiles per gallon here anyway, right?

If I remember correctly from poring over tire spec charts, the SL(XL) version is 48lbs. Unless you frequently run trails with sharp rocks, E is overkill. Especially at 63lbs. There are plenty of others in this size that are lighter, including 255/80/17 options, which IMO is a better size anyway. They're all E rated in that size, but if you're going to run an E anyway, might as well save weight and get a size that fits better.

It depends on the type of snow as well (imagine me giving snow advice to a northeasterner ). That looks like dry powdery snow, my favorite kind to drive in.

There are a decent number of people who diss the WP's snow capabilities, but from what I've seen, it's people from way up north who are comparing them to actual winter tires, which they are not.

In my limited experience (NC mountains hard pack), they do just fine, but honestly in those conditions any tires with decent tread probably would have worked (it was that crunchy frozen snow that's a little like driving on gravel).

Actually the 703. Looks to be the same wheel, mine has the “bead grip” technology.
    https://www.methodracewheels.com/products/703-matte-black?variant=31922243207229

Discount tire broke 2 TPMS when they installed them. They replaced them free, but apparently the tire and wheel combo is a pain in the ass to install.

Love the tires and size so far. Made it to the top of Micah ridge (
https://maps.app.goo.gl/vfimCHzANwtJppX76?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy) in Idaho with 4 other SXSs and a quad. I was the only Toyota I saw up there. Saw a 4 door jeep at the top too. Everything else was a SXS.

I’m still rubbing a little here and there. I just did some more cutting of fenders. Getting closer and closer to the “viper cut”.

Yea. It takes some effort. The first 5 miles are always a little nerve racking but the wife and I got it pretty dialed after a couple rounds of it. We were sitting at 8’6” and the lodge in mammoth had a sign exactly that. Fortunately the first spot was open.

I shopped for months on bins and couldn’t find it in me to spend the money on roam cases. These cases I found at Home Depot for $80 and $120 I think. They were great. I can fit a tandem and single paddle board in the big one. The small one had pretty much all of our cooking/kitchen with the exception of the grill.
The rig was packed inside and out but I don’t remember saying I wish I had this at any point on the trip.

PS: I did have to change my rear brakes in coure d Alene. The indicators started screeching the day before we left on the passenger side and by the time we got to northern Idaho, the driver side started going too. 45 minute change in the hotel valet parking lot including unpacking/packing the tools. The local Toyota claimed it was a 2 hour job…

My apologies for the misinformation. Apparently it was just Discount Tire that discontinued the KO2's. I found them on an online tire shop and ordered them. They'll be here on Monday (8/5)

Not sure Discount Tire discontinued anything, because BFG is getting the KO3 out in more sizes, and no longer building the KO2. Stores (still) selling the KO2 will be selling older tires, hopefully at a discount, as the KO3 replaces them.

I’ll add a couple more tire options to make decisions even more difficult. I really like the Toyo Open Country AT II. I’ve had three sets. They are great until they get to around 25% tread left when they get really loud. I have Goodyear Workhorse tires on my 4Runner now with about 20K miles on them. They are a little less aggressive than the Toyos or a Wildpeak and were quite a bit cheaper at the time. They handle great and so far have been super quiet. There wasn’t any noticeable loss in mpgs either. I will probably get the same for the next set or try the Toyo AT III.

I just went from Cooper AT3 LT, to the KENDA KLEVER RT’s 10 ply in a 285/70/17. They are really quiet for what they are and very deep tread depth. So far so good. Playing with tire pressures currently.

the Cooper AT3’s did good for dry and off-road, I wasn’t impressed with deep water on the roads, and slushy snow, and driving through the occasional 4+ inches of hail. I needed a little more aggressive for my drives.
