Xmas lunch on site. I ditched that, and went ahead and flashed my IDATA link. Awesome. Opened the vehicle up a ton. All the same info/gauge readings aa the obdII BT reader I use(used) temps, batt voltage, speeds, gas info, mpg, check engine lights, steering wheel controls for audio and phone etc, exterior and interior light time adjustments on and on. It even woke up the TPMS (tire pressure) All sorts of neat shiz, now, instead of on a separate tablet, on my source head unit in the dash. :)

That is pretty slick there. I like it! Keep us updated on your findings with the new head unit and your install overall.

Yup Yup. I'll let ya know. I give no fucks. I'll give my honest thoughts/opinions for sure. Good, bad , ugly.
And thanks ;) appreciated. Shits gonna start getting real real soon :) more gear came in.

I'm off tomorrow and Thursday, one package was the paint and clear came in. I'll be trying to get that bezel to look decent. I'll spray that bastard right in my kitchen. I really really suck at finish work, have like, zero patients. Soooo, this should be fun lol.

    Leggo !!!! Moving forward ;)

I know what you mean about the paint work. If I go the head unit route, I have a friend who owns a body shop and I would throw money at him and tell him "that's cause I want it to look good".

I went to 3 local shops. Told em I'd buy the entire shop lunch, and some beers. All of em said sorry, but, for them, it's more hassle than it's worth. I can understand. Probably take longer to clean the gun and shit, than to spray it. I asked if any of em had a green horn, noob, apprentice, that needs some learning. No dice. Said fuck it, and imma try it. I just suck at finish work. But, I love learning new shiz,... even to fail, but learn,... I'm down. The bezels are cheap, so to speak, so, if i eff it up hard core, I got "BUY THIS ITEM AGAIN" on speed click lol.

    Kyle,
I like it Bro...How do u flash IDATA link and connect it to the deck. At first thought, I thought the Kenwood has a OBD2 connection. Looking good though, as for the bezel, I would just spray it myself and like u said, the bezel is cheap if u F*(& it up to reorder.

Yeah, you are probably right. My friend might tell me to take it elsewhere too, just not worth the time and effort. But I would still try though before I screwed it up.......then again it would be good practice.....hmmmmmmm.

It came, with a billion plugs/wires. There is a OBDII plug. With the IDATALINK maestro, you log on to their web site, make a log in/account thing (its free) then with the module plugged in to your puter, via mini usb to usb connection. You click what you have, deck, vehicle, what accesorries you bought, or want to run,and then, click load firmware, and bobs your uncle. Once correctly updated/flashed, whatever, you plug into your HU. I got mine from crutchfield, and it came with fucking everything. Just plug it in to correct locations. Color coded and all mate. There was a ton, but, it was easy peasy.
What was cool, was they could look at what im doing and swag i had, because of my log in shit. Dope. Dude, i gotta admit, they have been fantastic, ive called them 3 times. They pick up, with in seconds (not sitting there waiting for 40 mins) and are UBER helpful. I had a issue with my steering wheel control volume, coming and going, at will,.. frustrating as shit, and they helped me with it. What ohm/resistance the switch should have, gave me the pin out/wire i need to look at for signal, all of it. VERY very cool. Very knowledgable about thier product and what is goin on. Super impressed and happy with it. My rig didnt have any Tire pressure monitoring, and, now it does, with a billion other info. So dope. Piped right into my HU. Rad....

Dude, if your buddy at a shop will, id do it in a heart beat, ... got none of that. And, they dudes i spoke to, where in no way shitty. They just told me, flat out and honest, its basically below them, which, i FULLY understand. They are working on expensive stuff, and i come in with a piece of plastic. I get it. But, if your buddy will do it, pro wise,.. shit, let him. Buy the joint lunch or some cool shit. For sure.

So, my steering wheel volume, would come and go, as it please, it would work, then not, then work, .. frustraing. I called Kenwood, and made sure i had the LATEST update. Yup. Called IDATALINK, they where tits. Showed my ohm/resistance is should see of OEM switch. I told him, i doubt the switch is shitty, as, its never failed, or acted up, UNTIL, i got in there. Gave me the pin outs, and the 2 wires i should see signal. I hung up, got to work. I did check the switch, even though, it tested fine. Moved down the line, to first plug/connection. In was fine, out, was squishy. I undid the connector, to look RIGHT at the pin. And, bazinga, i found 3 pins, basically folded over. One, was the wire i was sniffing around. Straighted them all, and it has yet to eff up. Whew... awesome. I got to have that vol control, ON the wheel. :)

That made me feel so good, and i had the deck and bezel off the dash, i pulled the bezel off, and started painting.

This is the 2nd coat... and it already looks pretty decent.
    20181213_131525.jpg

6 coats.... its drying, and then ill CLEAR it......

    20181213_134408.jpg

Couple coats of clear,.. drink some beers, hop in the shower ( im still in my jammies, trouble shot the deck and all in my comfys lol) then, ill install the vents, the emergancy blinker switch, and deck, run the mic and gps thing i left out prior, run the RCA's ill be using, just coil them on the floor for now, till tha amplifer(s) are in, and put it all back in the dash :)

    Thanks gents,..
It's far from perfect, but, it turned out even better than what I had in my head at the start. I suck a unwashed dick, with finish work. But, I gave it hell, and , I'm happy ;)
The deck, I'm getting use to, and, I'm happy with it, getting it set up for me, nothing to I'll to report at present, but will if I see anything squishy. Moving on to deadening the door panels, comp set install, wire runs, amp, then subs. :)

Oh bro, i know them feels. Ive had a "few" builds. Some large, some larger. We currently run in the lanes (competition) a Suburban, with 6 18s, and 6 4k amplifers at 18 volt. 4 alternators, and 24 (yep, twenty four) XS power D1600 bats, charging at 18 volt. :)

My older blazer build. Just 4 15s, flat wall, 4- 4ks, and only 6 bats, 2 alts, charging at 15.5 volt. Glassed door panels, with 4- 8" drivers and 2 tweets, per door....
Off topic as fuck, but... ...

The kenwood 994s has NO hdmi input. And, i REALLY wanna mirror my phone to the HU. I wanna watch netflic, youtube, pRon, whatever i want. I did a bit a research, and, ordered some "stuff". Most of it came, last piece will be here tomorrow. Soooo, ill get out in the 20 degree weather, and see if my plan works. I may not, but,.......... ;)

Yea loved that 3 way active. Im leaning towards just doing soundquality in the 4runner maybe a 6.5 inch sub later on. All sundown likely.

Also,.. I was able to MIRROR my phone, to the Kenwood. So, Netfilix, YouTube, Tv, prOn, ... whatever, pipped right to the deck. Pretty cool. Not the best quality, but, it is watchable. :) More to come soon. The door panels are coming off for some deadening real real soon. Super stoked for that.

Barret-Jackson on, all weekend. Dig it. That is off my DirectTv app, and then piped to the HU. Then swapped over to a youtube vid. ;)

I dont see why not mate...... 5th gen is a 5th gen...
In fact, when i bought it, i had to put in 2016, for it to get that gen to load. Im not 100 percent, but, there is no difference between mine, and yours bro. Get after it !!

EDIT- also bro, if the maestro unit, is your thing, it also said it worked for 2010 through,.. so, again, dont see why it would bro.

I have a 2019 off road and would like to keep the head. I want to go in steps. what processor/amp and sub do you recommend? Also, would you go under the seat with the sub? Almost the same story as you about music and growing up

If I was you, and want to integrate the OEM HU with a amp/dsp, audiocontrol has the slickest shit out atm.

Something like the lc7i or even newer ones now out. They will help the stock hu, not interfere, boost where the OEM cuts freqs, ( the factory hu can "cut" freqs you want when volume goes up) integrate perfectly for what ya wanna do. And give you a dope, and CLEAN rca out put for a after market amp, or whatever.

With more and more factory HUs doing so much these days, integrating is super important.

When it comes to specific amplifiers/boards, and subwoofers, I run what I've always ran in competitions.
