You can calculate the holdback by adding 2-3% to the MSRP. But you're right. Demand pretty much insures a dealer isn't giving up much.

I'm not sure that answers my question though you're right. Do the work is an important step in the buying process.

Beast of a vehicle! That was the big Bronco that replaced the original small Broncos (1966 - 1977). Mine was a Ranger trim also (V8 302)! The new Broncos coming out this year are replicas of the first generation early models (66-77). Your second generation Broncos had 351's and 400's V8's - big rigs. Collectors items now! Hardly see them anymore here in Maryland!

MSRP is only a SUGGESTED PRICE not an actual number it must be sold at. I think the more Information a customer has the better both the customer and dealer will be.

It’s also the number printed in the Monroney and the number Toyota says you must advertise the vehicle at, not the price you sell it at. That’s why it is called manufacturers suggested retail price.

Congratulations on failing to answer the original question.

when I was at this one dealer in south jersey, they were selling the TRD Pro 4runner MSRP. I guess that's not bad of a deal.

My buddies dealership only sells TRD PRO's at MSRP first come first serve. He believes its good customer service and word of mouth advertising to treat people with respect. He is also worth a few hundred million..lol

A sales rep at our local dealership in Frederick, MD said the same thing. Sell Pro's at MSRP, no price gouging! Another sales rep at another dealership group 25 miles away said the same - Pro's sold at MSRP!

But. Can you get one? Saying something and delivering on it are two different things. I'm by no means saying the possibility doesn't exist, but after weeks of calling all over this country - not one dealer would deal - not even if a person was willing to fork over the cash and wait for months if need be. Just the facts as I know them.

Exactly. Everyone has a line on a “great deal” until it’s time to produce said deal. Also none of these so called deals are in CA. Every dealer advertises MSRP on their website, it’s not until you get on the lot or call them that the dealer markup comes into play.

There are youtube videos out the backside supporting that that's the way it is all across this country. Guy's with their phones recording and posting window stickers with thousands tacked on. Small towns and large. Anyone who thinks I didn't do my homework before spending 5K on blue sky, doesn't know me...at all. Then, why did I do it? Because I wanted one and could. It's that simple.

Yep. If I didn’t want to pay MSRP for a Venture, than I’d still be driving the X5... 4Runners don’t sit on lots out here, and I’m guessing they are pretty popular everywhere. Especially the Pro and the Venture. Almost every single dealer I talked to pre sold all of their Ventures. Most dealers did not take deposits on the Pros because they mark them up once they hit the lot.

I would contact some dealers using their website contact form. Asking "If you have on hand or expect to receive a TRD PRO I will pay MSRP." All of them got back to me, and all of them had a way to squirm out of selling at MSRP. None of them would take all cash well in advance of arrival. They said they couldn't. lol Funny thing, we live in a state that has some of the most stringent consumer protection laws in the country and the dealer I purchased from had no problem doing just that. Why? Because he got blue sky.......a bird in hand..ya know.

To your point, it is all about supply and demand! The Pro's supply is purposely restricted by Toyota. Otherwise a Pro would only cost about $5,000 more than a TRD ORP.

I think it's difficult to get someone to agree to a price for something they don't have or haven't been invoiced for. Some will take deposits but not actually sell the vehicle. That way, when it arrives, they start calling from the list. You don't answer, next. And so on.

Just call and ask.. All dealers can run a report on the Pro's that shows production dates, shipping date and ETA of all Pro's and what dealer their going too. Its how we trade vehicle among dealers before they hit ground. Saves on shipping.

Thanks for this important piece of information(it may help someone). It's a shame sales people many of us deal/dealt with say they have no knowledge regarding future inventory flow. Don't ask how many times I heard this....unless you packed lunch. ;)

My SR5 sat on the dealership lot for 6 months....so they knocked $3600 off the MSRP . It is a base model and most customers want the premium models. I just wanted a 4 runner with 4 wheel drive, so out the door I go with my discounted ride.plus my 2010 trade in (explorer) and a 2.65% loan from my bank.(toyota wanted much higher interest)

A sales person may or may not have access to a report like this. I wouldn’t be so hard on one if they say they don’t know.

The Sales manager at every dealer has "Dealer daily" I agree dealerships that have high turn over or a young sales staff are fairly controlled when it come to information.
Dealer daily will show what cars a dealer has on order, its build date, shipping date and location two days before it hits ground then goes to ground which means dealer has possesion

Best thing that happened to me during my search for a MGM Venture with KDSS was to get my info from the Inventory Manager, and not the Sales guy. The IM showed me the VIN numbers that were coming in and also what she could trade for, we looked back on vehicles that had just hit their lot and figured out the timeline the vehicles sitting at the port would arrive at the dealer. Its a great resource if you can get that contact info.
