Anyone tried removing the 2 chrome bars on the upper grill?

I didn't remove mine, but I did use 3m matte car wrap vinyl film to cover. Thoughts on the retro decals? I'm kind of torn.

Pic is not the greatest, but here's a picture of it with plastidip and i also used the clear coat gloss for a little extra shine. Honestly thought it should have came black from the factory already given I have a Venture and everything else is blacked out.

 

So it was just two screws per side and black plastidip? That looks great. I want a matte finish so I will probably skip the gloss.

 

there’s also a clip in the middle that you need to work to release the piece from the grill. IMO, that’s the hardest part as the clip is snug in there.

I cleaned the chrome piece with an alcohol swab before applying the black plastidip. The matte finish looked good, but it was just more a matter of matching the gloss black bumper that comes with the venture.

I got the decals from etsy. A quick etsy search will pull them up.

 

I loathe chrome and ended up plasti-dipping those very chrome accent pieces on the grill – along with the lower bumper valance, for a complete “blackout” look on the front.

Very pleased with the results. This will happily tide me over until higher quality, lesser expensive bootleg 2020 heritage grills become available.

 

Did you take off the bumper valance to plastidip? Or did you just tape off and spray?

 

Thanks for asking. I taped off the area using painters tape and 6” masking paper, and then sprayed away.

Another helpful hint is that if you do get any plasti-dip spray specks on any unwanted areas of your hood etc.,, a rag with some WD-40 wipe easily wipe it off.

My next question... lol. Did you have to do some trimming for this TRD Pro grill or you bought an OEM one?

 

OEM - there is a whole additional thread on the heritage grill with the part numbers to order.

Are there light "raptor light" options for those of us that want to keep the stock grille? I forgot where but someone had mentioned that there's a company that makes lights that replace the chrome pieces.

 

I know this is an old post, but just wanted to say that I ordered these and they worked perfectly. They fit well and easily accomplished the goal of getting rid of the chrome look.

 

I just did the same and it worked perfectly. I’m going to run it like this for now and eventually go to a TRD Pro grill.
