Nothing fancy, just homemade margaritas while surfing the forum and counting down the days until my 2024 TRD OR arrives (eta Jan. 2-8th). So much good info on this forum, thanks to all that contribute! Can't wait to post up pics!

 

G4 is great and you have some Don Fulano up top. Everything both brands do is gold! Don Fulano makes one my favorite anejos. G4 is NOM 1579 and Don Fulano is NOM 1146.

mijenta is popular, I bought their first release on the Anejo. Hard to find and almost $200 a bottle, it was bad enough that I wasn’t willing to spend a cent trying the blanco or repo. Like a year and a half later (like a month ago) I got to try them for free, I didn’t like the blanco but the repo was pretty good.

 

Recently we were invited to remotely film an episode with “The Great Margarita Hunt”. Basically walking them through making our version of an at home margarita and then chatting with them while we drank them. That should be posted in the next couple days.

Yes, i was messing with that yesterday, even as you are trying to open it that happens. And how the hell can it cross thread when I’m opening it. I will not quit buying it because of that though.

 

There’s a few brands with weird toppers. Cascahuin the wood top likes to come unglued from rubber stopper. G4 stoppers like to push themselves out. Fortaleza uses handmade toppers so the cork thickness is inconsistent and sometimes doesn’t seal for shit. El Tesoro went through a bottle/cork change during Covid because of availability.

Last nights Mezcal Wednesday was a Sotol takeover.

It's $54 at Total Wine for the 750. I'd say $60 is fine, especially in the neighborhood I shop.

The 1.75 is $125, so if you are seeing it for $72, go for it.

I don't drink Patron, so I don't care either way.

 

I don't think it's bad or anything. But, it doesn't seem to be very popular with people who drink tequila straight.

I use 1800 most of the time. Am I missing out on something?

I've used 1800 and it's fine with me. But, I'm not a connoisseur. I was using Altos, because it seemed good for the price, but then the price jumped up a little. Also, Cazadores seemed like a good one for mixers.

I just started drinking Tequila in the last year or two, so I've been picking people's brains around here for ideas. So far, I picked up one bottle based on a recommendation and it's pretty damn tasty!

 

This was my stash last month.

 

Patron is not bad, it’s just not good. It’s the best of the popular tequilas but by design it’s very bland. Great tequila is made using old and slow methods, because of this there are subtle nuances that make it take different from one production lot to the next. Stuff like Patron using a very automated process that strips away a lot of the character. They dumb it down to make it taste the exact same from one batch to the next. Really shitty tequila will do that same thing but yes agaves that aren’t ripened and add a bunch of additives to mask the poor quality.

Look for Tapatio 110, Lalo, Cimmaron blanco, or Cimmaron repo for margaritas. Tapatio 110 can be a little expensive depending on your budget. Lalo is typically $45ish, Cimmaron is very very cheap. Cimmaron is out of NOM 1146, it’s a very high quality tequila from the guy that does Fuentasecca which is some of the best tequila there is - their cheapest blanco they have is around $130 and Extra Anejos go up around $800. He wanted a proper made tequila available to the masses so started Cimmaron. It’s the best bang for your buck there is in the tequila world.

All 4 make great mixers.

Went to open some Maestro Dobel Tequila and the entire top of the bottle cracked off with the cork in the broken portion.kinda killed our vibe for the night.

Wild that tearing some plastic can crack a bottle.

I need to keep building my Tequila collection. I have a good start, thanks to the recommendations I've gotten here.

I'm starting to think that I need to set up a proper bar of some sort.
