Any NEW 4Runners Bumpers coming to market?

I really like their rear bumper on Instagram for the 5th Gen.

 

Front and Rear both look pretty nice. Does anyone have experience with these?

 

I just called and spoke with Rory. Dude was super nice. They get all their stuff imported from Portugal and he said he can ship today. I have a Gobi ladder and want to make sure it fits before ordering. They look nice and Rory was so nice (did I say that already???). Anyways I had questions and he ran out to his truck and got all the measurements for me. If I had my 4Runner in my driveway to measure everything out and found it would fit with my Gobi ladder I would have ordered today. Thank you El Gavilan for the recommendation. $1300 saved over c4 fabs. I will let you all know how it goes if I end up ordering it.

 

Nice, we're you just going with the front bumper or the rear as well?

 

I am looking at the rear only as I have Lil B’s custom fab being shipped out this week.

 

Another thing I am thinking about. I will give my question to all of you. The AFN rear bumper is 4mm (roughly 1/8 inches) thick. I was reading that most people wouldn’t go below 3/16 inches. What is all your thoughts on the 4mm thickness? Stuff like C4 is 5mm thick or (3/16 inches thick).

 

I am at the understanding that Metal Techs the same 4mm thickness, and thinner in a few spots to conserve weight. Their only coming in a 118# for their front and 167# for their rear... while a similar dual swingarm from Proline is 290# for the rear and 230# for their front. That thickness adds up. I think if you going full ass into a wall of rock, it would make a difference… but just scraping the weight of the truck on some rock 4mm should be just fine.

Anyone with a Gobi ladder on their 4Runner that can help me out? I need to get a few measurements.

first measurement: distance at the bottom of the rear hatch to the front of the steps on the ladder (how far the ladder sticks out from the rear hatch is the goal)
Second measurement: around the height of the 4Runner name on the rear hatch run the same measurement.

I was told from Rory at AFN bumpers that the measurements from rear hatch to the back of the bumper Jerry can holder on this bumper:

the bottom is 3.5 inches from the rear hatch and the top part (about the same height of the 4Runner name) is 4.5 inches away from the hatch. If the ladder sticks out further then it won’t fit and I will have to look elsewhere. Pictures are greatly appreciated.

I am asking because while I should have had my 4Runner back today it is still in the shop because wrong parts keep coming in.

I emailed Rory and asked him about a ladder, he said the C4 definitely fits... I did not realize that was WITH the jerry can swing arm still installed. The ladder must be super skinny and tight against the hatch or the swingarms must have a pretty big gap. By the photos though, the swingarms look pretty close to the hatch.

 

Thank you to Rebel223 who sent me pics this morning. It appears that it will fit with no problems. Going to do more research today on the bumper and go from there.

 

After a bit of deliberation and having my wife look at the bumpers. We agree that C4 fab rear bumper is a better option for us. Although more pricey it just has a better build quality on the welds and such. Even the recovery hooks look vastly different between the two bumpers.

 

I asked Rory about the recovery hooks as well because their thinner steel then have a thicker rib around them. Wanted to know what they are rated at, but he did not have that info. Just said that he personally has used them many times for pulling other trucks out, even a Dodge 3500. I checked the curb weight of the 3500 and it's 7326# so fairly hefty. I'm still debating on this bumper.

However another thing I notice from the AFN pics close up is the "powder coat" looks more like regular flat black paint. It does not have that textured look like a normal powder coat. I'm not sure if thats just camera angles or what.

 

^ Well, powder-coat can come in many textures.. it can certainly be smooth and pretty glossy, just like paint.

C4 Fabrication seems to overbuild their products, which I like personally.

 

I wanted to go forward but my wife who is not into this stuff looked at the 2 options (without looking at prices). She looked at AFN and C4 and she said the AFN looked cheap compared to C4. She liked the C4 more. Granted the AFN is way better off than stock bumper. I just don’t know if I trust the towing capacity. Rory said he towed stuff all the time. I take what sales people have to say with a grain of salt and while I bet you can do a bit with it I just think I have my mind made up on C4.
