Bad deal. You can get a brand spanking new one for $47,000. I got mine with KDSS for $48,600. It came with rock soliders and blackened emblems as well. And 10 year and 100k mile warranty and roadside assistance from the dealer.

That was about 43k, new 3 years ago. I’d be a jerk and say 35 out the door, which is a steal, but wouldn’t pay 40 out the door.

I think a SR5 premium would be fine and you might be able to one of those for 42k. Maybe save for a couple months and grab a new one before the gen 6 comes out.

OP: you've mentioned "pan hard rod" at least twice. I'm not Johnny 4Runner but I've owned several and modded 3 and until you posted that and I specifically searched for it I had no idea what that was. I don't know that I've ever heard it discussed for fifth gens though apparently it exists. I wouldn't let that be a consideration in your decision.

I just purchased a 23 Limited for 39k which I thought was a pretty good deal. Don't be afraid to lowball them particularly if it has been on the lot for a while.

I paid just under $36K for a similar vintage/mileage 1 owner TRD Off Road Premium. that was before taxes and fees which amounted to another $3K

You're comparing apples to oranges. You're leaving out options taxes and fees. While my $36K 2021 TRD ORP was $43k new, it would cost almost $10k more for a new one.

Just test drove a couple ORP's that were used and did not like them much at all. One had a small lift on it and all these mods and drove like shi*.. Insane they wanted 42k for it. More and more I think about it. I really dont need the extra off roading functions. When would you use the rear lock and crawl features? Is that mainly for real rock climbing type stuff? Would those even help me if I was stuck in snow/mud or would the SR5P with A-Trac do just fine?

    Oooh look, another mod.....
The proper tires and driving skills will help you in snow & mud. A-Trac will help if it's deep snow or mud.

I would recommend going to youtube and watching some videos on all of the features so you get a better understanding than just asking questions here. Do you want more comfort features? Do you think you'd plan on wanting more in the future? I'd go watch some videos. If you did not like driving ORP's, you may just not like driving 4Runners. They are basically trucks man, don't expect a car like ride.

@wax poetic I've watched some videos and understand it but thought id ask the people that actually go out and off road a little rather than youtube videos of major off roading. I love driving a tock 4runner ORP. The ones I recent test drove were lifted and had multiple mods. Those two I looked at were just not to my liking. Again, Love the way they drive stock with just a more aggressive all terrain tire. But thank you for your input. Ill go back to youtube and try and find answers to my questions.

I think you've hit the point where you have the answers. If you don't need the extra features or the comforts, I'd recommend finding an as new as possible SR5P as it will be just as capable as the other models. If you think you may do more or want more in the future, plan for that now as it will cost you way more to add down the road. I don't know if there is any more you will need to know without going and driving vehicles.

I just used my locker for the first time today. It made an amazing difference, but this was not a type of place I currently would go on my own. These runners are very capable in 2 wheel drive. @DummyDee12 if you’re not off-road trail driving, i don’t think you need the locker. Until today, a SR5 premium probably would have been great, but I knew I would eventually what to play and have the tools at my disposal.

We had a Nissan with us, the driver was good and wasn’t worried about his ride. Didn’t make the hill, once I turned on the locker, it was night and day. I can imagine the potential once I learn what I’m doing and add some armor.
