I’m the OP. No it’s not for the extra quarts. It included 5 qts and said 0-w16 and 0w-20 oil is extra.

Yeah it takes 2 more quarts for 4runner. How much more did they want for 2 more quarts?

I hear ya. With my rig I take my time. If it takes an hour to change the oil, so be it. I did the brakes - front and rear along with rotors. It took me close to 4 hours but every single bolt was torqued, guide pins re lubed and all hardware replaced. Everyone in my family wants me to work on their car or detail it. They tell me I should open a detail shop. I’d lose money because I take my time and make it perfect. My daughter in law just bought a new Honda HRV she only wants me to work on it.

It didn’t say but clearly stated 5qts. I would be willing to bet 15/qt. I just went there for trans fluid and was told 20/qt. I went to another dealership near the house and got it for 15. This is the same dealership that told me on my first oil change all my fluids were good. The washer fluid was empty. Also said the cabin air filter was fine. It wasn’t. I wrote them a bad review and they offered me a free oil change if I’d take down my post. I laughed.

I have always used Mobil 1 every 10k with filter for last 20 years and no issues. 7 quarts of water cooled oil should last a long time. The Mobil I get now is 20k oil. Not done that yet, but wouldn't be scared. I would probably change filter at 10k.

Drain and fill only needs a case of 6 and I only used 5 with cooler. I would not flush ever if you maintain it.

I only did a drain and fill. I would never ever do a flush. You’re spot on. If you maintain it you don’t need a flush. Actually if you don’t maintain it you definitely shouldn’t do a flush

They usually work on commission so more they sell, more they make. I like pay for performance but you have to be good and honest before being fast.

I priced drain and fill at 3 dealers here and 3 prices. Bigger the town the more expensive it was. Knoxville wanted about $300, Cookeville $220 and Clinton, my old dealership, $116. That's an honest price for labor and 4 quarts of WS. They didn't try to sell flush either. Just what I asked for. The service writers are salesmen selling things they know nothing about usually

And that is why it's a volume game. Quantity supercedes quality. Get out as many cars as you can, quality of work notwithstanding.
I gladly pay for the master techs time. And he is willing to spend that time on my car because the remuneration is going directly into his pocket.

$116 is fair. I needed 3qts at 15/qt. So 45.00 in fluid plus 7.00 for the crush washer. I’d pay 116.00 if I didn’t have OCD and needed to make sure the levels weee perfect and the drain plug torqued. 300 is absurd. It’s unfortunate but I trust nobody touching my rig.

They sell what tech says you need. Sometimes whether you need it or not. I'm sure so writers are good. Most I know don't know much about cars and a lot about selling.

I do not operate like that . I do not start a new alliance thinking I am going to get screwed.
I will trust that the man will do right because I am doing my part by paying his demanded remuneration. If I have questions I will ask. And will do visual inspection as much as I can.
In this particular case, I have used his services twice and on both occasions he has not failed.

That's me. I hate paying someone to half way do it. I can screw up for free and fix it 3 more times instead of paying. If I do it then I know it's way I like it. I'm OCD and non practicing perfectionist.

I would stay there too. I would leave at my old dealership if I needed to. I serviced Toyota for years and I would rather do myself what I can.

You are probably more comfortable with a wrench than I am. What I can't do, I do not attempt.
Also, my time is more valuable than watching a professional work on my car. 4runner or any car for that matter is a mode of transport for me, nothing more.
Now if it was my Hayabusa, things would be different.

    lol.. sadly it is true..

I had one Mercedes dealer one time send me a non OEM Mercedes cheap parts that cost $20 where the Mercedes genuine costs $100... I was pissed and told the manager that I would report the dealership to Mercedes HQ/ The manager did not give a F....
It is sad that you can not trust even the dealerships anymore...

    no one DGAF anymore.....

For those of you who have seen TCCN (the car care nut) on YouTube, he is 5 minutes from my house. If for some odd reason I can’t fix it, that’s where I’d take it. Done with the dealership. Another really good 4Runner poster is Viking Garage. He is a Toyota Master Tech and posts step by step tutorials. Really a cool guy as well. If you have a question he will answer it.

Yeah. It’s is. I never have that kind of luck. I haven’t used TCCN yet but it sure is nice knowing he is right down the street.

I saw vikings garage, TCCN and other videos and replaced my PCV valve, power steering fluid, throttle body clean, timing tensioner cover gasket, dash speakers, sound deadening among other things.
I recently had to get my complete suspension parts replaced. I knew i needed a professional to do it. So I found one, paid him and that's that.
