Your 1GR-FE engine was originally designed for 5W30. A revised cooling jacket design in 2010 allowed it to use 0W20 with acceptable reliability. 0W-16 is two viscosity grades lower than what the engine was originally designed for. It is likely to cause accelerated engine wear.

Regular Corolla and Crown use 0W8: https://assets.sia.toyota.com/publications/en/om-s/OM02684U/pdf/OM02684U.pdf

The harder-working engines in the GR models are spec'd for 0W20, though Toyota wants you to use the exotic Toyota GR oil imported from Spain (rebranded Shell Helix): https://parts.lakelandtoyota.com/p/__/GTMO-C5-0W20-5L-SN/15904917/08880WA010.html

I don't know if Shell Helix is any better or worse than the Pennzoil Platinum readily available at Walmart in North America.

Depends on what you're thickening. Chowder, yeah. Delicate Bordeaux demi-glace, no f-ing way.

    I had a 2018 Camry Hybrid that required 0W-16
I think most newer Toyota hybrid’s require it to get the best MPGs.

Drain the 0-16, Leave the filter in place as is.
    Refill with 0-20

Why risk your engine for a few dollars and mark one for experience!

We have a 2019 Camry XSE that uses 0W-16. The manual does say that you can use 0W-20 for an oil change if you can't find the 0W-16 but not to do it twice in a row.

I would run it if you live in a colder climate, and then change it out when it gets warmer.
