I was also hoping for a video a while ago when I ordered his harness, but his instruction are very clear and very detailed with a lot of pictures.
To the point that I find it more useful than a video. Never removed the dash before I did it and it was a lot easier than I expected, mainly because of the clarity of the instructions !

I'm sure you're right. This project has me a bit nervous, mostly removing the instrument cluster. I'm one of those who likes to watch someone else do it a dozen times before I lift a screwdriver...thanks for the encouragement.

On the other hand, I did manage to remove the A-pillar trim, drill a hole in the metal, and install a mounting bracket and grab handle, so...

That, however required no electronics to be messed with.

In anticipation of installing all this, what do the two buttons in the yellow box below do?

    upload_2024-1-20_12-46-47.png

I suppose it's sort of self explanatory, but just curious what is displayed when using these.

I was a little uneasy about removing the cluster. But it was way easier than I thought.
Waiting on the parts to do the heated wheel retrofit now, and that process is way more involved. Removing the cluster, removing and fuse box and ECU, along with the knee airbag.
Popping open the PMX to populate the new wires. But the pictures in the guide are excellent. If I fuck something up, it will be on me pushing or pulling to hard on some part.

Sorry if this has already been posted, but here are the sheets from the 2014 4Runner Owner Manual that describes compass calibration using those two buttons.

My local dealer parts dept just got back with me and said the meter is on backorder. Are y'all seeing that or is it available and shipping out? He also quoted me full price so not going with them anyway.

Last night I received notice of the harness display shipping, and this morning received notice of the AMD display shipping from Lewis. Granted, this morning both show 'shipping label created' at this point in time, with no actual movement, but it's early in the day. I expect to see actual movement of both items by tomorrow.

Lewis did not contact me to say it wasn't in stock, so I'm figuring it really is on the way.

I didn't actually check, but I assumed either dealer in my city would also have tried to charge full price.

yes it is on backorder "again" just placed my order with my Toyota dealership who we get all our Toyota parts from. im in no rush as it still super cold up here and wanted to wait till it gets warmer before ripping apart the dash components anways.
they did have stock a couple months ago when i was inquiring about it. gonna take some time to get but it is what it is.

Quite honestly I'm in the same boat as it's too cold to work on the 4Runner. If I order it and it's on backorder will they still charge my card now or wait until it's in stock before charging it?

tbh they shouldn't charge your card until its in and processed but whoever you get it from i would talk to them first to confirm. i have a wholesale charge account with my Toyota dealership i use which is "Fred Beans" they just ordered it under my wholesale account and we dont get billed or anything until the invoice is printed and the part is shipped. im out in NJ btw. even if it takes a month or so not much i can do ya know. My thoughts are this, its on backorder because none of the Toyota warehouses in the country have any but there very well could be stock in japan at the supplier so it just a matter of them getting them over here to fill the orders etc. i deal with backorders on parts all day long for a diff manufacturer so it just a waiting game. yeah some parts are at the supplier and they have to be shipped in, others there are none and they have to made so either or, time will tell. just get it on order so you know you're on the list

Both tracking numbers now show progress of the respective packages, so Lewis did have the AMD in stock and shipped it. They should both be here by Friday, but like a lot of responders, I plan to wait for some warmer weather to install these. I don't have a heated space to work in. Meanwhile, I'll review the instructions carefully.

@glwood54 If you don't already have them, get some nylon pry tools. I couldn't get a solid grip with my hands on the pieces around the climate controls to pop them off.

The trick is to open the flap that covers 12v socket. Then grab from both hands and pull out. It's just not the silver/black face that comes out but an entire piece with plastic extension and has the plastic tabs.
The plastic pieces are brittle and have a tendency to scratch with the slightest pressure of a pry tool.

Anyone know where the best price is online? Best I’ve seen is $385 before shipping and tax.

Input your info and see what comes up locally. Try different dealers. Or try ebay for one from a dismantler yard.
