6th Generation thoughts of mountain driving

Obviously it will do well, it is turbocharged, it will also tow better. But 6th gen stinks, I say get the 5th. If you can afford it, get the GX. I am trading my 5G for the GX.

These are all common sense for any vehicle, turbo or not. I always let my 4Runner idle for a little bit before putting it in gear, and then I don't go over 2000 RPM for the first mile or so.

On my turbo Volvo. I check the filter periodically, and replace it when it looks dirty, same as one would do on any other vehicle.

As far as letting it run for 2 minutes before shutting it off, I'm not coming home at 6000 RPM, so not necessary.

As far as most everyday drivers not doing those thing, you're probably correct, and yet the cars still last.

I think most turbo issues come from people "tuning" them by cranking the boost and not doing all the other required mods.

 

It's not even out yet. What's so bad about it?

I like the GX. But, it's out of my price range. The new Landcruiser might be doable for me, though.

 

LC is okay, but the 6th gen is a waste of money.

 

Rugged offloading with liquid electrolyte cells - a explosive battery pack being jolted a million ways and possibly soaked - the turbo is a moot point...

...and you want to pay 10k more for this...

The drivetrain is a huge upgrade, at least on paper.

Nobody ever thought it was getting the GX motor. I don't know why people are acting like it was a surprise or a letdown.

 

That GX is what 4Runner should have been.

 

The 4Runner should be $80K? Seems like it would have been a shitty move for Toyota.

$80 because it is Lexus and Overtrail and fully loaded. Its Toyota cousin would have been $55-$60k

 

Its Toyota cousin is the 6th gen 4Runner.

 

As a humble published detailing artist and with a gut feeling for what looks good, I think the 6th gen models are a complete fail. IMHO. The overly exaggerated sharp lines remind me of a transformer like Bumble Bee. Very cartoon-like. Here in the USA it is more important for it to look cool. Is the 6th gen really a transformer? Search the comical laptop 'stuck in the dash' for the transformer blue button...

I wonder if there will be any issues with the batteries. That's one thing that could steer me towards the 6th gen over the LC is the option of a non-hybrid drivetrain. OTOH, if they're not problematic, the extra power could be appealing.

Toyota has been making hybrids for quite awhile, though. I think they can pull it off.

Lol, so humble that you felt the need to start your post by telling everyone.

 

Yeah, it's possible it could work very well and they sure add a lot of torque. Maybe I'm just leery of the tech. I know electric is the future for sure but I'd feel a lot better if the batteries used were a better design.

 

I don't blame anyone for being hesitant about newer designs. I'd like to see a better battery as well.

I'll be interested to see how they work out on the trails over the next few years.
