I think the new tundras look pretty good. I don't know if I would say that it looks amazing, though.

But, what are this guy's credentials? Why does he think he knows anything about this?

I feel dirty for giving him another view.o_O

I have no idea what his credentials are, and he gets on my nerves. I usually avoid his videos but somehow stuck it out for this one.

    It’s 1,001% speculation, so we’ll see.

I seem to have an issue with YouTube people. It seems to be way too common for people to not really know what they're talking about, and then they get a bunch of followers and people start to think they know what they're talking about. Any old idiot can convince a bunch of people that they're an expert. It seems like it could do more harm than good in some situations.

What I don’t understand are the accounts that consistently get things wrong, and still consistently get a fan base. You sprinkle one nugget of truth in with a dozen outlandish claims and get beaucoup views…

Carmaker1 has proven to have very reliable information over the years and he is the source of most of the information I've shared in this thread.

His source has said all along that the 6th gen will be assembled in Guanajuato.

Honestly surprised we may not see any more than 6 gears in that transmission.
Hell, I figured the crown would have 8-10 in it.

Rumor has it that Toyota will unveil the new Tacoma and Land Cruiser soon.

It sounds like we could see the new Tacoma for the first time on April 5th at the New York International Auto Show. An interesting note about the Tacoma is all the different speculation on motor options. Some say there will be a naturally aspirated 3.5L option. Others speculate we will only see a turbo and a hybrid option.

As for the turbo, the standard motor will probably be the 2.4L turbo. It is not known wether the Hybrid Max will be the hybid of choice for the Tacoma or if it will be the 2.5L Hybrid shared by Camry, Rav4, Sienna. At this current moment in time, the best speculation I've seen is that it gets the 2.5L Hybrid instead of the Hybrid Max. We can't necessarily say that the 4Runner will get whatever Tacoma gets so 4Runner Hybrid info will still be up in the air even after we learn what's in Tacoma.

A couple months later (around June) we should see what the new Land Cruiser will look like. It sounds like the Hybrid Max will be standard and potentially the only option.

I wonder why they would bother with the R&D to offer another, almost identical sized engine option.

Are you referring to the Landcruiser Prado that we're allegedly getting in the US being revealed?

Regarding the Tacoma, I think I got a wire crossed above. It looks like the speculation revolves around whether it will get the Hybrid Max or the 2.5L Hybrid like the Camry, Rav4 and Sienna. I'll need to edit my post above for accuracy. Thanks for pointing that out.

Yes, the Land Cruiser I'm referring to will be a smaller land cruiser coming to the US market this fall.

I'm definitely interested to see what the US version of the Prado will be like. And, how much it's going to cost. I'm guessing it will be a significant price increase from the 4Runner.

The source that I've been using (Carmaker1) has never wavered on whether the 6th gen is coming or not. His track record is pretty stellar with other releases throughout the years, so I'm sticking with his info.

He's always maintained that that 6th gen would start production in 2024 at the absolute earliest. Early on, he said it could possibly be released in the 1st quarter of 2024. That information has changed slightly to Fall of 2024 at a more traditional release time. So Fall 2024 as a 2025 Model Year for the 6th gen is still a go according to him.

Sometimes I have a little trouble interpreting his info because he has a tendency to speak in car code. I do my best, but there are a lot of engine codes to keep up with what are very similar and hard to differentiate at times.

I would think that a Prado would just be a lateral move from a 4Runner. In other parts of the world the Prado is not a premium vehicle, correct?

All the speculation is really confusing. I'm glad that I know this will be prohibitively expensive and I won't be able to afford one, so I really don't care what happens lol. Though I do have a friend with a 2012 SR5 that cannot wait to buy a hybrid 4Runner.

I still think that with the variety of SUVs Toyota has now, the 4Runner can lean toward being more off-road oriented and still be a good seller. If the 4Runner went away tomorrow, Toyota would still be able to cover all the SUV needs, other than off-road.

    Good question.

I haven't been keeping up with Land Cruiser as much as I should, so I don't know all the in's and out's of the different offerings, especially overseas.

My understanding is this new US version will be "mid size" and offer a similar power train option as other mid-size offerings on the way. That is to say, it won't be a premium offering like the Land Cruiser used to be in the US.

My guess is it will be more expensive than a 4Runner, but not outrageously so.

The current Prado is more similar to a GX than a 4Runner.

I'd also be happy to see a more off road oriented 6th gen, as long as it's still a decent daily driver as well.

The more I think about it and speculate, the more I come up with crazy assumptions. It almost seems that Toyota may bring the Land Cruiser Prado to the states under the 4Runner badging. They will probably change up the front grill, front and rear lights, and a few bolt-on cosmetics. Then you would have the Grand Highlander and 4Runner in the Toyota Brand and the Lexus GX in the Lexus Brand.

It just doesn't make sense for Toyota to compete with itself. Why have a Grand Highlander, Landcruiser Prado, and 4Runner in the same space and brand? I could see this if they kill off the Lexus GX and move the Landcruiser Prado to the Lexus brand.

Maybe they will do a 5th Gen 4Runner Final Edition for 2024 to make a few more bucks off of the name. It will be interesting to see where they go with this as more information comes to light.

The GX is the Prado. The only real difference is the drivetrain and grille. Sooo, that probably makes it even more confusing. :D

They have room for them all. Think of the new Land Cruiser as an FJ Cruiser replacement and something that more directly competes with the Bronco and Jeep than 4Runner.

The Grand Highlander is a unibody. Not geared toward the offroad market at all and not in the same league.

I see the new Land Cruiser as a less expensive stripped down GX........body on frame off-roader that comes standard with KDSS and a hybrid. Both are supposed to be pretty square in appearance like an early 1990's Prado.

So, the new Prado will be smaller than the current one?

The FJ Cruiser never competed with the Wrangler, so that's a weird comparison to me. :notsure:

I'm getting very curious about the upcoming Prado. Based on what I saw awhile back, the next generation KDSS should maintain the benefits of the current version while eliminating some of the drawbacks. Should be interesting.

I don't know exactly how big it will be, but I'm guessing it will be in that "mid-sized" category.....which seems to cover a lot of territory theses days. Maybe slightly bigger than a 5th gen, but not by much. Again, total guess on my part. I don't think it will be a full size, like the Sequoia.

The FJ reference was to point out that Toyota has had more than one "mid-sized" offroad SUV in their lineup at the same time (although the FJ didn't go all that well for them). However, they realize that they are missing out on something in that category. And that something is a Bronco and Wranger competitor, which is what I think they're going after with this new Land Cruiser. Just my speculation.

I was just curious since the current Prado is the same size as the 4runner (same wheelbase), and the FJ was smaller (shorter). I was guessing it would stay about the same size, and the 4Runner would be a tad smaller, based on the comments on another thread.

Ughh. I wish I didn't even care, but the suspense is driving me nuts! :goingcrazy:
