I cannot "like" this comment, so I'm quoting it. FFS. My '19 is going to have like 200K miles before the 6th gen finally comes around.

It's a better motor than the Tacoma has right now. ;)

But, of course we all know the 1GR is gone on the 6th gen. Aside from its reliability, I don't think it will be missed much.

Laugh all you want. I bet with a more modern transmission, and 4.10's in back, we wouldn't hear nearly as much whining about the drivetrain as we do now.

I'll keep my 15 year old 2UZ-FE that has more hp, torque, reliability, and just about the same mpg as any "new" T4R. Dunno why Toyota hasn't done a small v8/hybrid, turbo 4 or six yet.

The dual VVT-I 1GR has 270 horsepower, so it's on par with the 2UZ. Torque is another story, though.

Toyota did a small V8 back in the '60's. :D

Turbo 4 is coming soon. And, save for potential reliability issues, should be better than the 1GR in every way, and match the 2UZ's beautiful torque, while getting excellent fuel economy, for a brick.

Tell me about it. This Gr Corolla roll out has me exhausted. Waiting for the 4R will likely be worse :bananadead:

Rumor mill says hybrid too, which is exciting. Toyota does hybrids well. I wasn’t a believer until the other half got her Rav4 hybrid; I really enjoy driving that thing.

Yeah, I saw that. A plug-in-hybrid would be excellent!

That's It! Let's write a script, and have the movie release the same day as the 6th gen! That gives us at least a few years to figure everything out.

I really want a RAV4 Hybrid as a DD. It just makes having the 4R kinda redundant, if I had something like the RAV4 I might as well have a dedicated trail rig instead of the 4R

I wouldn't mind doing something like that. I'd love to have a nice crossover for traveling and running around town, and an 80 series LC for trails.

If we’d shoot for a release date of 2030 we should just beat out the new 4R :anonymous:

I love driving the other half’s Rav. It’s smooth, comfy, and has plenty of power. I’d totally DD one, no doubt.

I’m doing something similar once I get my GR Corolla. I’ll have my fun little daily and the tundra for hauling, towing, and trail riding.

One feature Toyota might consider as an option (if not standard) should be POWER folding side view mirrors.

Yeah, I don't expect any mechanical issues. I might have to do CV's, hub bearings, and ball joints by then, though. :D

    Exactly!

In my case I just can't justify a 35k vehicle just to save gas. The 4R is paid off, I'm better off doing as you had suggested and getting a beater Corolla and an off-roading vehicle. I'd probably do a XJ or WJ, those are cheap & easy to build.

One more comment on this........take a look at the very first post in this thread.

The sources I've been listening to on this have said the 6th gen would come out in 2024 all the way back in June 2021. The majority of the YouTubers were claiming it would come out in Sept 2021 as a 2022 Model Year. And when that didn't happen they were sure it would come out in 2022 as a 2023 Model year.

Granted my sources said Jan 2024, but they always maintained that would be the absolute earliest production would take place for the 6th gen and if that were to happen, it would either be a 2024 1/2 model year (or an early 2025).......and that Guanajuato was scheduled to build.

Updated info is saying 6th gen is still scheduled to be built in 2024 and production looks like it will be in Tahara instead. The timeline really isn't too far off from the original prediction.......just a matter of months.

I’d like a RAV4 Prime also. But it must be the next high demand vehicle because there are very few available near me. And the one dealer that has two has a dealer markup of $15,290. Unbelievable.

I just read that the RAV4, like the 4R, also has one of the highest resale values.

I have some new gossip for you guys and girls. It's not 6th gen 4Runner related but it is Toyota/Lexus offroad vehicle related.

In about 1 year, the new Lexus GX will come out as a 2024 Model Year. It's supposed to be quite different to what the GX has historically been. Styling is said to be closer to a 1990 Prado......so pretty angular and square. Here is a 1990 Prado for reference:

It's supposed to get the hybridized twin turbo V6 and compete with the Land Rover Defender and the Mercedes G550.

Now here's where the speculation comes in........some are talking about this vehicle making its way into the Toyota lineup to fill the hole left when the FJ went away. Some are talking about the possibility of a 2 door version as well. I seriously doubt it would get the hybridized TTV6, so perhaps it gets the same 2.4L turbo NX motor that the 6th gen is getting. Probably the same hybrid option as well (or maybe just the hybrid motor). The idea is that it would be a more affordable Land Cruiser and a better competitor to Jeep and Bronco than the 4Runner currently is.

We shall see how (if) this plays out.

A video from TFL just came out regarding some insider info they received about a LC 300 series coming to the U.S.. This supports the info in my post above ^

Their source also supports the claim that the 6th gen 4Runner is coming as a 2025 model year.

    https://youtu.be/FUwqzuct6Pk

And here is their video on the 2024 Tacoma. Their insider says it will be coming with a 2.4L turbo and a 2.4L Hybrid Max. Speculation is that the 6th gen 4Runner would get the same powertrain. The only difference from my info is the hybrid system. My source said that the hybrid system would allow the driver to switch between ICU, Hybrid, or Electric functions. I don't think Toyota's Hybrid Max allows this, but I don't know much about the system at the moment. When I looked it up, this is what is says:

Toyota's Hybrid Max puts out a manufacturer estimated 340 net horsepower and a net 400 lb-ft of torque. Exclusive to the Crown's Platinum grade, it pairs front and rear electric motors with a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine and direct shift 6-speed automatic transmission.

Those numbers would be pretty awesome in the 6th gen 4Runner!

Rav4 prime is 300 hp I believe, that’s due to the combination of ICE and Electric motor.

Hybrid RAV4 in Canada are an 18-24mths wait at least. Went shopping last week for a new car for the wife, and it’s a 6-12mths wait for her order (Lexus IS 300 AWD).

I think I’d buy a 6G 4Runner if had the same motor and an 8spd tranny. Not sure I’d buy a hybrid version of it, at least until 4th model year.
