If you extrapolate a SUV from this photo, and the result is a bit smaller than the Gen5, still made in Japan, with good off-road specs, a price between $45-55K, even with the 4 turbo, I imagine it will crush the 250 or GX. And it would sell like wildfire in Europe with the 2.8l diesel engine.

Honestly I think a 4R that looks like the Taco would sell like hot bread... but all seems to point to Mexico assembly though, no more Japan assembly. Also as I've stated before, the 6th gen HAS to be smaller than the 5th gen since the 5th gen is almost as big as the LC/GX. But, in the C&D 6th gen spy photos, the body does look a little smaller than the 5th gen so that's a good thing, we need a lighter and more nimble 4R... which might be the case with the turbo 4 engine.

But either way, this 4th gen Taco looks good idc what anyone says, looks better than 3rd gen.

weak styling cues. Front end looks like a melted blob. Contrast that against the new gx. Sharp chiseled looks. Bold well defined shapes

Yeah, I priced one out on the Lexus site, with sunroof delete, it was a tad under 69k. I'm curious what a similarly optioned Land Cruiser would be priced at. Might make the Lexus even more compelling.

I really am super curious to see what Toyota does with the 4Runner to have it fit in their pricing ladder. Like with a new Tacoma, I'm seeing a lot of people say you might as well just buy the Tundra, by the time you option up. a TRD off-road Premium Tacoma you're now in Tundra territory. My co-worker just picked up a brand new four-door Tundra SR5 with the TRD OR package with a 1K discount from Toyota for 54k

The 5th Gen and the GX470/460 is the same vehicle underneath. Wheelbase is the same and track width would be the same if both have the same spec'd wheels. The body of the 5th gen is ~1.5in wider but the GX body is about 3 inches taller.

The new LC went down market and technically is the new 4runner if keeping with current structure of being a GX twin.
They would have to shorten the Tacoma frame/wheelbase by more than 2 feet to make it smaller than the LC/GX550.

Price wise, I don't think there will be a hierarchy concern.
With the Tacoma starting at $31500 and the 4runner starting at $40705, there is plenty of room before 6th gen hits the ~$55k starting price of the LC.

I haven't seen the specifics of the whole model line yet, but I do know the 1958 comes with the rear locker, MTS, and crawl control. Doesn't come with good tires though, so you'd have to add another 1200 bucks or so for that.

I think the main difference in price is going to be how many luxury features do you want. Also, the LC250 is only a 4 cylinder, while you get the TT V6 in the GX.

It seems like a great price at 55k, but if you then have to stack another 10 grand in luxury options on it, I suppose at that point you might as well just get the GX.

Body is similar. But power train is different. Also, technically last gen GX was a prado, while as 4R was its own thing? But I do agree size wise they are pretty similar vehicles.

Last GX/Prado/4runner are all on the same frame.
Power train is different. (V8, diesel, V6.)

*4 cylinder hybrid! Very important because it should give it decent performance and MPGs, which I welcome.

    You're right, that IS important.

I agree, I would rather have the four cylinder hybrid with 25 plus MPG (hopefully) than the twin turbo V6.

Idk, supposedly a Toyota insider told TFL it will most likely move to Mexico.

Tahara is set up now to produce 150K units of 4Runner a year. Mexico is not. So while the long term goal might be to move production to Mexico, the first few years of 6 gens may be J made and as a result...wait for it...collector's items.

I think this 6Gen will blast the 250 and GX because of its size, price and sheer aesthetics. It could have the vibe of a slimmed down Landcruiser 300 series GR sport. And that is golden. The 250 is brutally ugly (ymmv) and the GX still has the six porterhouse grill in the front albeit covered up slightly. My money is on the 6Gen all day if it looks anything like this:.

    upload_2024-2-13_18-43-24.jpg

.....and I love this Supersonic Red color...could you imagine the 2024 Gen 5 4Runner TRD Pro in this red color instead of that mousy Terra? Off the charts.....off the blinking charts!...Toyota, why do you do these things sometimes?

I don't think diesel is worth the trouble in anything other than HD trucks. Diesel fuel is still about $1/gal more expensive than 87 in my area, and you have to deal with DEF fluid and more expensive maintenance and purchase price.

Also, are N/A diesels even produced anymore? A diesel will also have a turbo.

I'm not afraid of turbos, it's not new tech and Toyota has experience with them. Even my 17 y/o, 233k mile turbo Volvo has had zero turbo related issues. Many owners are over 300k and counting on the OE turbo.

But the choices and dwindling; turbos are becoming the norm so we have no choice but to embrace it if we want a new vehicle. We have no choice, not even the automakers have a choice they have to do it because of the emissions laws in the USA and EU.

Plus, modern diesel laws require DEF which is another expense to operating them.

+1 My 36 years old Toyota 2.4l TD purrs like a kitten every morning to this day. I love the sound of that engine.

We are getting a 2.8l TD Hybrid next year in Europe. The 2.8l TD is a proven power plant and the hybrid version is being tested this year in the Hi-Lux pickup. These TD Toyota engines are the ideal power plants for light duty trucks for all the reasons you have mentioned "good MPG, good torque and good range."

Newer regulations have pretty much ruined diesel. DEF seems to actually make fuel economy worse in some situations.
