I hope they did it better than Ford. Our work fleet has a few Explorers with 10 speed automatics and they are horrible, especially on the highway. At 70 mph they constantly shift between 9-10 gears no matter steady you keep the throttle. Overall just feels like they never settle down, I’m pretty sure a CVT would be smoother and less annoying even with the rubber band effect.

 

You may be surprised, it's 68" high standard, add an inch or two for the lift and tires and you are at 70". With the rack, add 10", you're at 80", plenty of clearance for the most garages.

Yes, I know, but the Hyundai, and the sister Kia brand, have been beating other brands for quality and customer satisfaction for a couple of years, I will consider it for my wife to replace her Subaru Forester.

 

True. It seems like typical garage door openings end up around 82 or 83". I can just squeeze in most garages without my basket on. But, with the basket on I am just shy of 84". Lucky for me, my current garage has 8' doors.

 

Are you sure about 72”? That’s only 6’. Even your bedroom door is likely taller than that (possibly 80”). I lived in the Midwest 20 years ago and had a garage with about 83-84” of clearance.

 

I’d have to wear a helmet in your garage otherwise I’d constantly smack the top of my head!

 

I fully realize all auto dealers are different but the local KIA dealer is a joke. I know several owners that dumped their KIA autos within the first year because lack of support of the local dealer, either weaseling out of warranty repairs, shoddy repairs, no replacement parts or just being flat out unprofessional…..they have far more 1 stars on yelp than 5 stars. At least the Toyota dealer has the stars the other way around.

I would have thought that with all the supposed insider contacts on this Forum from carmaker 1 Plano TX and Toyoda's ghost, we would have some idea of what these two shaded vehicles are? Any chatter out there? Is it a new FJ Cruiser and a 300 series? Anyone?

 

The small SUV matches the Compact Cruiser concept in silhouette, but is sitting higher and carries the spare on the tailgate. This is leading to speculation it may be a body-on-frame FJ Cruiser replacement instead of a unibody Bronco Sport or LR Defender competitor.

Your builder may have installed low radius tracks or not adjusted the garage door correctly. If adjustments don't help, here is another trick, change out your curved sections for larger radius ones, available at many online garage door companies, also called high lift, here are some examples.

You can program a lot of garage doors to open further than they do from the factory.

I did this to mine.

I all seriousness, these companies couldn't be farther apart from each other. One places very high value on QC, tests things a thousand times before coming out with a feature, makes bullet proof vehicles.
Other is Tesla.
I say this as current tesla and toyota owner

 

I think TSLA has never had the luxury of time on their side. Investors want to see profit as fast as possible for new companies and Elon had to fastrack those early model designs to get them out as fast as possible. Definitely growing pains of a new company.

 

My clearance isn't limited by the tracks, but by the external opening, which is 77.5". That's true of most of the 400 houses in my neighborhood, which were build in the early-mid '70s. My 4R fits fine with the OEM rack, but it won't fit with most baskets.

I'm hoping so as well ....im jumping around to what my next vehicle should be. I have a 2021 tacoma off road. Thought about a Tundra , right I'm thinking about a Trailhunter or the new 4runner . Trying to decide if I actually need a truck or if I can get by with a "SUV".
