Those of us with bad lower backs appreciate Adaptive Suspension way more than soccer moms.

Why do people keep talking about the FJC? Did anyone consider that it might be the next 4Runner?

With the new Landcruiser being almost the same size as the current 4Runner, it would make sense for the 6th gen to get a little smaller.

Based on the pictures, that's another good possibility.

 

Because shape so far away from 4Runner generations.

• No rear quarter window

All similar to compact Cruiser prototype.

 

Yeah I highly doubt its the FJC. Other than shape there is no other cue its that, and I tend to believe its 4R, than anything else.
But if its 4R shouldn't it have read quarter window?

 

Ok. But, at least there's some talk about a "compact cruiser." I don't see them insulting us with another so-called "FJ Cruiser."

When I hear "FJ" I think of an SFA off-road beast, which the FJC was not.

True. Maybe it's the "Compact Cruiser" as mentioned by @TexasFunRunner .

 

Thanks to @TexasFunRunner and Carmaker1 for all the great info provided prior to the release of the new Land Cruiser. The predictions were spot on!

 

Maybe I've read too many marketing claims over the last five years, but I see similar claims across brands, "smoother, softer, more comfortable ride" or something to that effect. I'm not talking about handling, nor do I care about taking a corner at 60mph, I'm willing to trade off sway control for ride comfort for the 95% of the time I'm on the street (one rear end car accident will do that to you).

I thought systems like the 4Runner X-REAS or the Lexus AVS would do the trick, where have I misunderstood those claims?

Oh, I was just thinking along the lines of KDSS and XREAS. I thought XREAS only added stability, and KDSS only affects sway and articulation. Not sure about E-KDSS, though.

That would coincide with a post from year(s) ago where someone claimed they saw two 4Runner test vehicles roll off a cargo ship at Long Beach. If true, surprised we never saw one spot shot of them.

I was curious about complete dimensions since Toyota only published the LC 250 dimensions for the length, width (with mirrors) and height. Previously I had calculated some of the missing dimensions for the GX 550 to get a complete picture. Below I've combined the known information and calculated the missing information. I'm pleasantly surprised to see it is the same length as the 4Runner. Please let me know if you see any errors in my calculations.


Note: The length dimension "w/ trl hitch" and "w/o trl hitch" refers to the ~3" trailer hitch rear bumper cover.

 

if there is a manual option then I am fairly sure the 4runner will get at least one powertrain of the turbo 4 only without the hybrid. No one has tried a hybrid with a manual since the Honda CR-Z

 

That pic of the Compact Cruiser isn’t bad until I saw the pic of the back.

 

That resembles the FT 4X concept from several years ago.

The fender flares still look better than the Bronco's.

It's a little weird looking. But, if it has a live rear axle and some decent off-road capability, it could be kinda cool. Maybe it'll be like a gateway drug to the 4Runner world.

 

I’d be willing to bet they were testing for the Land Cruiser. I have a strong feeling there won’t be 6 Gen 4Runner. With the release of three different models of LC it just doesn’t make sense to keep the 4Runner. A new gen has been the talk for years and truthfully nobody knows anything more today than they think they have every year for 5 years.

You're prob right. I didn't consider those test vehicles the guy saw were prob the LandCruiser.

The new 4Runner is definitely coming. LandCruiser lowest model starts in the low $50's. While the highest 4Runner trim is usually low $50s.

In the past, haven’t we had the 4runner, FJ cruiser, GX, and the Land Cruiser all at the same time?

That didn’t make much sense to me when the Land Cruiser cost 20k more than the GX. But now that they’ve gotten rid of the FJ Cruiser and made a more affordable Land Cruiser, there’s definitely room for all.

4runner is the entry level offroader. Land Cruiser mid level. GX Luxury. Pretty straightforward in my book.

 

Compare with Land Rover Defender

 

Based on preliminary pricing, a GX with the V6 would be about $5-8K more than a similarly equipped L/C. If you have that kind of money, the Lexus sems like a no-brainer over the L/C.

 

I consider myself blessed and fortunate enough to own a new 4Runner so hopefully they keep something consistently in that price point and vehicle type.

With inflation, economy, and interest rates many will probably struggle to make these purchases later on and have to settle to much less of a vehicle.

 

Agree with everything except the Tundra, lol. Haven't seen one for less than $60k, with $70s being more common. It's definitely turned into a lifestyle vehicle; don't think many people are buying them as work trucks anymore.
