6th gen Speculation Thread

More of what we already know, but presented in an entertaining way...

 

There will be a "Private Event" at the Land Cruiser Heritage Museum in Salt Lake City from July 29th to August 2nd.

Since Toyota showed their FJ40 in the teaser photos it seems likely this will be the LC250 Reveal. It also lines up with several articles about the reveal being in August.

Absolutely right. It's goes like this: Toyota, fool me twice, shame on you....fool me thrice? Nah, I am going to get a Gen 5 before its too late!!!!

 

My Plano contact verified the Land Cruiser Heritage Museum "Private Event" is in fact the Land Cruiser 250 Reveal. Several journalists and aftermarket parts people have already taken early test drives. Since we know the Tacoma people worked with the aftermarket parts people for the 2024 Tacoma Trailhunter, perhaps we have a LC250 Trailhunter to look forward to, hopefully we see more teasers soon.

The embargo period may be short, similar to the GX reveal in Austin, so hopefully we will see reviews and videos either during or soon after the July 29th to August 2nd event.

As far as the 6th gen 4Runner reveal, keep your eyes peeled for Q1 2024.

 

I really hope they get the front end right, and it does not look anything like 300 series. We already know the shape will be that of GX550, which to me is quite good.

 

I hope so! I saw someone post on the previous page that they thought it'd reveal this year, but I believe that to be too soon. At the same time, I'm hoping not to have to wait until May next year like the Taco timeframe.

If it does reveal in Q1 2024, I should have plenty of time to get an order in for a '24 if I'm not feeling the 6th gen design.

 

TBH, I don't love the 5th Gen. The dis-likes are all reasons I'm looking at the next gen 4Runner, Land Cruiser, GX and can't wait to dump my 5th gen. As long as Toyota doesn't mess up the good parts. If they bring out a hybrid like the Sequioa that has a significant reduction of interior cargo volume, I'll just go back to a Jeep. (Although, that $7k price jump from the 2023 to 2024 Rubicon is effing ridiculous).

I like:
- Toyota reliability
- It's a hard roof, not an effing soft top or fiberglass hardtop
- interior cargo volume is good
- reasonably quiet on road even with KO2's

I don't like:
- the brakes suck. I'm sorry, I'm sure I'll get roasted for this, but you really have to stand on them and I hate that
- nosedive - so, crappy brakes combined with annoying front suspension. Non-KDSS here, so, maybe that's the deal?
- the transmission that likes to hunt on every hill. At 75mph, the speed limit, the transmission has no idea what gear it wants to be in on even the slightest incline. And I'm sorry, this is un-f***ing-acceptable for a design that is well past it's expiration date. They seriously couldn't re-gear the idiotic thing? Is that up to me to spend $45k on a new truck that has be re-geared to be driveable? Even the Rubicon nails this. Seriously, my biggest pet peeve.

 

Every new generation model, redesign or refresh will have lovers and haters. Check out the automotive forum for every brand or model and you will find the the same story over and over. For the few that do actually drop out a new crop of buyers will take their place, it's the the same story over and over.

 

Pretty much everything I don't like about my 4th gen V6. The transmission thing is super annoying especially on hills.

Already salivating to see the 6th gen and to see what aftermarket companies can do for it.

 

When my wife and I test drove her new Subaru Forester in 2018, the N/A engine was a dog, with no power to get out of its own way.

I glady bought the turbo model to make sure she had the power to accelerate out of dangerous situations that arise from time to time.

 

I agree that it requires a lot of pedal input. But, they actually seem to work quite well.

That's the mushy OEM shocks. KDSS does not affect nosedive.

A lot of people feel they're underpowered. But, I think gearing is a big part of the issue. I'd love to drive one with 4.10's and a 6-8 speed auto. Or, better yet, a manual.

I hope it’s not a larger Bronco Sport shape. And I hope it’s actually available to purchase. And I hope there’s not a $10K “market adjustment”. And I hope they don’t all have a sunroof. I guess I have lots of hope.

what did 200 and 300 have -- slide down window? I had a flip up window, and much prefer the slide down window of 4Runner.

 

Toyota has supply chain issues at least through this year. It is hopeless situation. But at least I get to see LC back in US, and someone is gonna pay markups to get it so I can see it on the road.

You bought the vehicle for wrong reasons. You knew all of that from literally every other youtuber/reviewer out there before buying.
Life is too short - if you don't like it get rid of it. For some of us, this is a dream vehicle or close approximation to it, when one doesn't want to drop ~100K on a 200 series. It has the "old new vehicle" charm that simply can not be found elsewhere in today's auto market. Its simple and that is the beauty in it. Some of us see it. If you don't that is totally fine, and you should get rid of the vehicle. It isn't for everyone

Get the OTT tune and the transmission works a lot better.

The 5th gen is a decent used buy, but I'd be very disappointed if I had to spend new-truck money for one.

 

Yeah I saw that, and wondered if right side is for "P R A D O". I know the name has no appeal to US consumer and it will confuse them more, so it is unlikely to happen.
I kinda dig the single word on left hand side.

Toyota has long marketed the Land Cruiser Prado in the United Kingdom as simply "Land Cruiser" since the UK didn't get the J100 - J300 series.

They're now doing the same in the USA.

 

It’s more of what was available at the time. What I wanted was a reliable, new truck without the cargo space limitations of a Wrangler. I’d driven the 5th Gen a few times before I bought one, and the 200 series LC. There’s no perfect vehicle, and it’s impossible to really know what’s going to drive you nuts until you own it for awhile. I’ve pretty much always avoided automatic transmissions (except for drag racing), and the 5th Gen has just further confirmed my bias!

I would have preferred the 200 series, but not for $85k. So, compromises were made. We’ll see how the pricing goes on the upcoming models.

 

Yeah 85K is just too hard to justify. Or was when it came out last (2021?). Now it seems vehicles have gone up in price so much it doesn't look as bad. If money were not an object I'd have bought a 200. 300 isn't available in US, and I think it looks ugly too (to me!).

 

Yeah this was 2021, and we were adding a second car payment, so….

It was also a good time to trade-in, I got $5k more than I paid for the Wrangler in trade-in, which basically meant the only cost to me to drive the Rubicon for three years was gas, insurance and oil changes.

Functionally, the 4R has met my needs. So, even just a better sorted transmission and gearing in a future model would satisfy me, depending on price. A similar $7k price jump like the 2024 Jeep JLU Rubicons would definitely be a hard no, unless the new model was spectacularly better.

Anyhow, I’m expecting prices to rise on any of the upcoming 4R, LC, GX variants, but at least I feel as though the 4R holds its value and I take good care of my vehicles. We’ll see what happens!
