My daughter has a Highlander, she reminds me it's an SUV, when I mistakenly say minivan. ;)

Where is the Heritage FJ 40/70 in the styling of this bland, anonymous monstrosity? I thought @toyotagod or whoever he is promised us a Heritage look?

OK you are right it doesn't look like a Flex, maybe its a Hyundai, an Izuzu, an Explorer, some GMC, all of them, none of them, multiple choice? The point is that it does not look like what a Toyota (industry leader since time immemorial) should be!

so your argument is it looks like one of the suvs on the road?
Boy! Toyota really dropped the ball on that one. I mean….cyber truck design was right there for the taking.

honestly I don’t know what point you are making anymore. Maybe that you won’t buy it because it looks like a suv and not say a boat?

I was hoping for a retro look like we’ve been hearing about. This ain’t it. Looks incredibly long to me for an “off road truck”? Looks less in the direction of a 4runner and more in the direction of a Ford Explorer. This is exactly the direction I was hoping they WOULDN’T move toward with the 4runner.

Maybe they know the LC buyers really aren’t gonna be “off roading” and the 4Runners will be? Maybe it’ll be the 4runner up against the Bronco and not the LC? Fingers crossed…

I concur. Seems longer which I wouldn’t care for. Current size 4Runner is sweet spot for me.

it feels like there is room for third row? I’d not like that even as an option. Even at this length, It always is pretty useless on body on frame vehicles.

As far as the Landcruiser looking long in the teaser photo; you guys need to remember that the 40 series had a 90" wheelbase, which is 6" shorter than a 2-door Wrangler. It's also almost 20" shorter than the current 4Runner. So, pretty much anything is going to look like a school bus by comparison.

Also, people wheel the shit out of Gladiators, and even DCLB Tacos.

Compare against GX550, plastic bits will change, sheetmetal is identical:

The GX550's wheelbase is 2.4" longer than the current 4Runner/GX460's, according to the official press release.

    Thats a good job @Thatbassguy !
So it is quite similar to the GX. We will still see how the front end looks like. I have been generally happy with toyota front end than lexus. I like the styling of GX and would love to see it in a toyota.

I played around in photoshop and finally came up with some settings that highlighted the front and rear lights. I then compared the headlight shapes to the Tri-Beam Headlights on the CarsGuide rendering (from the Plano grapevine). At first I was convinced they had to be tri-beam, like the rendering, however, the more I worked on it, different settings and zooms, you can see, what I believe are round headlight bezels and a round headlight convex protrusion.

To confirm this, I've added closeups of the CarsGuide rendering. You can see with the tri-beam headlights the upper and lower bezels are flat. On the new teaser image you can clearly see a classic chamfered headlight bezel. On the other hand, that chamfer could be a center grill section, like the FJ40 and FJ Cruiser.

If true, this would validate some of the leaks that say the international LC Prado will have the tri-beam headlights and the US LC Prado will have round, retro, 40/70 series headlights. What do you think, confirmation bias or do you agree the images lean towards them being round headlights?

^Just scale/stretch the Compact Cruiser a bit and I suspect you'll see all the Land Cruiser styling elements:

Keep in mind headlight and grille designs are relatively easy to change even amongst different trim levels of the same model (think Tacoma SR5 vs TRD Pro, or 4Runner SR5 vs Limited).

lol until you pointed it out I thought the marker lights were headlights. Yeah looks to me like rounded lights. I kinda wish they do something more with the front end however. Not aggressive enough. Keep coming back to 4R TRD pro front end. It’s so good and I am not sure how they will top it.
Maybe that styling is kept for 4R

Nice photo of the Compact Cruiser, I recently reached out to one of my contacts about it. I was told, the platform will be the TNGA-C 4x4, it will share some items similar to the RAV4, including the seats. He confirmed the Compact Cruiser is entering production.

I'm still thinking there will be two trims, like the GX 550, the second being more off road focused, lifted, larger tires, perhaps different front end treatments, etc.

The answer is, a qualified maybe, lots of media all over it, but I've not read any confirmation that it will actually be available in the US. That said, since it is an EV and we know Toyota is transitioning towards EV, it seems like it would be a natural fit here, time will tell.

Thanks to the help of @CArunnerz on the toyota-4runner-org website we have solved the mystery. He noted that the lighter image is the one with Round Headlights and the darker image is actually a second trim level with Tri-Beam Headlights. See my updated image below for details. This confirms what I had heard on the Plano grapevine that there were multiple models/trims.

If the "Compact Cruiser" is going to be built on the TNGA platform, it should be more off-road worthy than the "sport." I think the Sport is a unibody.

It's better looking than the actual Bronco, though.

Wouldn't a compact cruiser end up being a rav4 nameplate? seems weird to dilute the land cruiser name like that.

I am not sure about various trims but I have seen broncos on street with big tires, which looks super cool. The sport (or at least thats what my kid told me) looks pretty bleh.

Appreciate the information! Hard to imagine the releases being so close together in 2024, would be sweet though.

TNGA (RAV4, Corolla Cross) is unibody. TNGA-F is body-on-frame.

The RAV4 has had a TRD Off Road trim for 3 years or so

Here is some additional information on the Compact Cruiser @Carmaker1 posted on another forum. He is saying we will get a hybrid version of it here in the US, as well as the rumored new Stout small pickup, interesting.

Agreed. But, maybe it wouldn't be so bad if it ended up being a badass little off-roader like a Suzuki Samurai. :notsure:

Ahh, thank you for pointing that out! I stand corrected.

And, yeah, LOL at the TRD RAV4! Although, it would probably be satisfactory for a lot of people's off-road needs.
