If your vision has deteriorated to the point where you can't tell the front of a 2010 4R SR5 from a 2024, time to visit your local ophthalmologist, in fact may be a good idea for you to stop driving altogether, and seek assisted living solutions.

I don't think the likes of @WHITE16SR5 understand why width matters in offroading.

I know he said he didn’t want to be mean comparing my 5th gen to a Rav4, I certainly didn’t take any insult. Some people like’em big. That’s ok. I happen to enjoy a vehicle with less external volume for the benefits it gives during woodland travel lol. Hmm, although I have to wonder if the current Rav4 is narrower than a 5th gen?

The 4runner is essentially unchanged visually for the entire 14 year run. One could be forgiven for not being able to tell one year from another, except for the first couple of years when it had a “distinguished” front end that made it the best looking 4runner ever (since the 3rd gens).

His posts here shows when he says he doesn't mean something, he most definitely means it.

Very odd for someone who made the model year his username who should really be in something more to his style by now.

He's weird, he seems to hate 5th gens for some reason... yet his profile is based on his SR5 that he "had"...

Anyways, y'all are right, the extra width of the 6th gen will guarantee a lot of pin-striping. Here in the northeast, my 5th gen is perfect for our narrow trails and have avoided pin-striping til this day and honestly it's super easy to navigate through tight trails.

And all his posts against the 5th gen sound exactly the same, you can almost predict his next words. Outdated, unrefined, blah blah blah.

I look forward to his posts about his brand new 6th gen and how happy he is, while still bearing the shame of owning the 5th gen in the past, in every post.

Is he getting a 6th gen? Tried looking through his comments but couldn't find anything.

Sometimes I can be hard to insult because I simply don’t understand the insult.

If one was intended, then it completely went over my head how it’s insulting that my 5th gen looks like a Rav4 when parked next to a 6th gen. My 5th gen isn’t insulted by it, and I don’t identify as a 4runner…so how can that be insulting? I don’t get it. :notsure:

Durango is actually a good-looking truck. No odd shapes or broken lines like on 4Runner. To me, 4Runner looks like unfinished origami.

I haven't seen it either. So he has no 5th gen and no 6th gen, but spends his free time on a 4R forum making fun of 5th gens.

I mean, I guess whatever it takes to help him stay off of worse hobbies....

There are a whole lot of T4R 5th Generation owners who have been completely left out of the discussion. I don’t know how the expression started (and meaning no disrespect to those that literally fall into the category), but we who have taken a different path and own a Limited or Nightshade model are the red-headed stepchildren of the 4Runner family. But not using a Limited front end to discuss the styling of the 6th Gen 4Runner to a 5th Gen 4Runner is legitimate—because of the final indignity of doing away with the unique styling of the Limited front end. The 6th Gen Limited’s bumper is the same as the rest of the models, except for the chrome grill and the silver tone valance. I finally blacked out the chrome on mine after 10 years. The truth is, if my Limited wasn’t paid for, I’d probably buy a 6th Generation. The front is badass. :)

I haven’t seen a Gen6 in person, but the photos make it appear less off-road capable. That front air dam doesn’t look like it would survive a forest service road and the fender flares look like an afterthought. I also find that the straight and chunky bumpers appear to be out-of-place in the silver color. I prefer the looks and the capabilities of my simple and proven Gen5. It appears to be the more organic and balanced package visually and the full-frame and proven (normally aspirated) powerplant promise a rugged and long-lived ownership. The new version looks okay, but I’m suspicious of the new tech and the apparent retreat from the Gen5’s off-road capabilities. Perhaps my greatest complaint is that it is a first-year offering. These can be awesome, but are often a step backward…

As soon as the Gen6 specs became known and photos were released, the wife and I started searching for a Gen5. We found a really well-equipped SR5 Premium 4WD with a competitive price and only 7,900 miles on the clocks and bought it immediately.

It came with TRD wheels, Nitto AT tires, blacked-out badging, Nerf Bars, and factory top-rack crossbars. There wasn’t a scratch on it and the vehicle was totally detailed (including an extraordinary engine bay cleaning). I loved my magnificent Gen3, but our new-to-us Gen5 is a better truck.

That air dam may have come in handy to plow my driveway after the latest snowstorm.

Maybe the “road-ifying” of the new 4R is aimed to make room for the new (and pretty cool) Land Cruiser in the truck/SUV catalog.
