Is it your prediction for gen6 or what you paid for a 2024 SR5P?

My wife and I rented a new RAV4 3x for long roadtrips with our dog (2000-2500 miles total) the past few summers (2021, 2022, and 2023). Maybe we stressed the car too much by using Apple Play and streaming non-stop, but 2 of 3 RAV4's had the head unit go completely black and become unresponsive (it was on our last 1-2 days coming back each time). Spoke with Rental car company about it and apparently this is a known issue with the Rav4 that is covered under warranty and they had other renters have the same problem. Keep in mind this happened with 2 of 3 completely different RAV4's - I'm unsure of the years, but they are the latest generation of RAV4...

We bought our 4runner to finally have a new enough vehicle to do our annual roadtrips (the only SUV we had that could haul a dog comfortably has over 200,000 miles and we wouldn't trust it).
I'm hoping we won't run into the same issue with our 2024 4Runner since the head units may share similar components. If so, I will just replace the head unit with aftermarket if it is out of warranty.

On a somewhat related note, my wife and I rented a tin-can Chevy Spark for a smaller roadtrip between St. Louis and Nashville. After an hour or so on the highway, the speakers in that thing would start popping like crazy and we had to pull over and "reboot" the car by restarting it to resolve it... Pretty hilarious to me at the time.

That seems very high! But it's not unexpected. I always ask them to give me a detailed breakdown of what they are charging, tell them I do not want any add ons unless they are free, and repeat everything before I leave the house with money in hand to buy the vehicle.

What I love about the trd pros is all the owners that modify them and sell the oem parts super cheap.

I scored the Fox shocks and trd exhaust for next to nothing. And I LIKE the stuff.

Well it is not just 4Runners with high prices. Look at some Jeep Wranglers for sale. There are lots with people asking 18-20K for a 2003 and such. It is partly due to the insane prices of new. Look at price of this 97 [27 years old]. :spending:

You’d need to understand a bit more about Jeeps and TJ’s before critiquing that asking price. Good condition TJ’s with the right motor option are worth the dough. Used car prices, in general, are still up but trending downward slowly

I can’t criticize someone who paid extra for a Pro b/c feature/value aside, it is the most outstanding version of the 4R, and the residuals are rock solid. Plus, in a few months, $58k for a TRD Pro 4R will magically look like a bargain.

At the same time, if you landed an ORP for well under 50k, congratulations, b/c you practically robbed a bank. So, there’s merit in both arguments.

In terms of new tech versus old, who here is going to pitch us on trading for a Gen6?

It's crazy how much prices have gone up. I paid $38.6K for an ORP with KDSS only 5 years ago.

Although, it must be a regional thing, as well. There are currently ORP's in my area listed for $47K.

Driving factor has more to do with ugh..(certain policies) , than most other reasons people are led to believe. Health reasons, supply chain issues, dealer mark ups, are all part of it but you can't deny this. 21% in 4 years? Crippling and ridiculously criminal.

    Let me try.

Are you tired of the same old, just won't ever quit truck? Say no more! Make your life interesting by stepping into a 4-banger turbo hybrid that probably would not short during water crossing, that has innovative one-time-use "bump" stops, and that has many screens to entertain you while you wait for the rescue? 6th Gen 4Runner is coming to dealerships near you!. Limited time offer, only 5K dealer markup, some recalls my apply.

No. My wife and I are from Denver. We thought it would be nice to check 2 cities off our list in one trip - Flew into/out of St. Louis with Nashville right in the middle. We actually enjoyed our time in St. Louis (checked out the arch, downtown Cardinals stadium, etc.). Wanted to catch a Cardinals game to see Arenado because he was just traded from the Rockies and we were fans (hasn't done much since though), but they we were out of town that weekend.

Metropolis, IL was a very memorable and interesting stop right in between St. Louis and Nashville - Who would have thought the Big John Supermarket statue would have been bigger than the Superman statue. Nashville was Nashville :D

In the last year or so I found a 2013 at Thompson Toyota in Doylestown, PA; I forget what trim it was, but I believe it was either an SR5 Premium, a TRD Off-Road, or possible a Trail. It was in very good condition, but it had over 100K miles and they wanted like $25K for it! :rasta:

I had a similar experience looking at the new GX550 Overtrail. Sales guy was practically begging me to trade-in my 2021 TRD ORP, I'll probably wait and see how inventory and prices shake out in the fall. I usually buy previous model year leftovers in late September, but the way Toyota is rolling out LC's and GX's that's not really a thing this year.

I wish Toyota would put the V6 into the LC250, I hate the way the hybrid battery eats up storage, but really like the round headlight front-end on the LC.

Which means I'm keeping the 5th Gen for a while.

And surprisingly, as of a couple weeks ago anyway when I was in for my annual inspection, my local dealer had 4 5th gens on the lot. One pro, no markup, the other 3 were ORP's and one of which didn't even have a sunroof. Kind of hit and miss right now I guess based on where you are.

If your in the market. Be sure to check cargurus.com or auto trader. Both sites keep up on the market, and let's you know if it's overpriced.

Rather then listening to opinions about price.

I love my 2020 Venture (paid $42K in April 2020) but in hindsight I should've waited and gotten an AG Pro for $50K and kept it stock except tires. I don't get the hate on PROs either. It's one of the best if not the best SUV's to get when it comes to resale.

Resale benefit is contingent on how much you paid.

I’ve proven time and time again that there’s no actual difference in resale between a TRD Pro and an Off Road Premium. The benefit of the TRD Pro is there for those who want the best and don’t plan to mod, and it’s still hardly a good selling point over an ORP in terms of “value”. Nonetheless, here are some more examples for you:

    2024 ORP 10k miles $52k
    https://www.carmax.com/car/26344721

    2024 Pro 8k miles $58k
    https://www.carmax.com/car/26085760

    Which held its value better?

    2018 ORP 50k miles $38k
    https://www.carmax.com/car/25966422

    2018 Pro 22k miles $45k
    https://www.carmax.com/car/26174273

    which held its value better?

when you factor in what you paid for the PRO or ORP, mileage difference how much value % off of MSRP it sustained it’s practically identical and any difference is a wash.

If it has the AMC 4 Liter inline six, and in good condition, that's a fair price, consider how much a big mac is these days.

You are probably judging the prices with what you paid for yours years ago when used cars were selling for pennies. Look around, it's year 2024, nothing is cheap any more. Knowledge of pricing is a weird thing because inflation happens but your benchmarks are a snapshot of some point in the past.

Yaa okay. Prices are outrageous because fools are willing to pay the price. New now aren't selling for the most part because FOOLS bought at ridiculous high prices a few years ago and banks would finance them [for 6-8 years]. Now all the SMART buyers are upside down in their vehicle values and can't sell them. Dealers USED to be able to roll the upside down value into next loan and now banks won't do it. Like the saying goes...."a fool and their money are soon parted". Prices WILL come down when they don't sell [because if you don't have the cash banks won't finance]. :nuclear: Oh and I also won't pay the price for a crappy BIG MAC.

You will be amazed how many people don't need to finance to come up with 13k to buy a well maintained inline six YJ or TJ.

Here is the thing, and I hope you were previously aware of this, YOU are not the whole car market. Nobody gives a hoot if if Sir Jeepster09 ESQ of 4runners.com is boycotting the car market. The fact that you are using new car sales trend to conflate the value trajectory of the ever dwindling number of YJs and TJs in good condition is some funny stuff.

These days the buyers of YJ/TJs are often people in their 50s and 60s who used to drive one and now want to re-live their youth, and many of them have millions saved in their retirement accounts. It's to a lesser extent what happened to pre-72 classic cars with babyboomers. Just look at what happened to prices of AE86 and AE92 Corollas.

What you hear about car market crash on youtube videos, tiktok, etc doesn't apply to vehicles whose prospective buyers aren't using them to get to their job, these are toys and don't follow the same market dynamics.

And it seems McDs is doing okay without your patronage.
