I’ve been to Bodie several times but this was the most picturesque. Right after the last monsoon and still a little rainy, so all the wood was darkened. New restroom facilities, a museum, and tours. It was very impressive.

Fun in the canyon with my lil man.

 

My first trip was back in the late '60s or early '70s. Dirt road all the way in, no facilities, two rangers on duty with skis in their p/u. Met a Basque sheepherder on the way in with a Gypsy wagon, two dogs, and an ole 30-30. Traded some Marlboros for Basque cigarettes (lit one and threw them ALL away!). Down jacket weather and it was Labor Day!

It is a Beretta A400 Upland. Before that I had a Beretta AL390. I also have a 686 that my father in law gave me a few months before he passed.

 

Ahhh I'm dumb. I confused it with my Benelli SBE3 because of the walnut and my Beretta A400 extreme is synthetic haha. I should've known better!

Sunrise appreciation moment in Southern Oregon

 

Williamsport, Pa last night.

 

Finally got some mud on the new shoes and a nice sunset leaving my hunting property yesterday.

 

Wrapped up a 12 day camping trip to OBX near Cape Hatteras, chased out by hurricane Ida. Final morning coffee on the beach before Ida made it impassable.

Lotsa scenery but the East just does NOT have any mountains!

 

Scenic is in the eye of the beholder, of course. At-home test run on the new Napier tent and Luno mattress, with a nice view of the barn and pasture.

 

Sunset in Joshua Tree NP after the sudden storm and flash flood that scoured the campsite.

 

30 day 5,000 mile round trip with the new 2022. Kansas, Colorado, Utah, Arizona and New Mexico

 

Eh, I feel like we have 'some'... My knees and hips would certainly argue that point...

This one (and surrounding ones) have some stories for sure.

 

What's Mount Washington? 6000'? My daughter's house in Flagstaff is 7000' and it's in town. Our local pass is about 5K. Heck, we have glaciers around here!

Point taken though, much smaller in elevation here for sure. I just know a bunch of people that come here to hike from CO etc. and are shocked by how ‘hard’ our ‘little’ 4-5k footers are compared to their 14ks.

And, I cannot wait for my trip out to see the ‘big’ ones next year.

 

That’s cool. We are down south at Emerald Isle NC. We had to keep the vehicles off the beach a couple of days. Allowed back on today. More fishing this week.

 

I don't know that that's a fair comparison. In the east you may have a 4-6k foot mountain but ground level is just 600 feet above sea level so the delta is similar...

PS the "Mountain State" is West Virginia... pretty east IMO...

But I would have to agree, from living both places, the mountains in the west are more spectacular looking...
