Only 13 miles off of Hwy 395 (Now it's mostly paved, not like the first time I went). But Caltrans says the road is impassable. Out itinerary prevents us from coming in on the Nevada side. Gotta couple of weeks, so hope it will get better but I expect Caltrans has other areas to concentrate on. Oh well, there's always Manzanar!

Assuming that picture is from fall, unless those are larches in the background.

There is so much snow up there, that even after the main highways are reopened, the backcountry is still not going to be accessible for a while.

Lots of washboard coming out of Escalante? And how's the level of Lake Powell down below?

Washboard is out of control for sure. The road is better going in than coming out. I figure this is because people are driving faster on the way out so they can get off of it. I know that’s what I did. Lake Powell still has a long way to go before it will be back to anything close to normal.

Took my "new" dog for his first hike in the mountains today. Didn't get to go where I wanted since the road was snowed shut about 4 miles off the highway.

    20230423_152952.jpg

I hiked about a quarter mile and the snow was about 3' deep. Nothing but UTV tracks and one of them got really stuck...

    No pics but:
Went with the wife a few miles outside of town to see the Northern Lights last night about 10 PM. Of the three or four times I've seen them in Washington, I am sure it was the best! Of course, I don't think they compared with those from Alaska.
