I mentioned my mirrors are plain no puddle or turn lights so newer style mirrors are only $200 from the dealerships online with no puddle, turn.
I was at the local dealership and I walked the lot until I found a 4runner with comparable/acceptable mirrors and copied down the vin number. It's not the same as my current mirror color, in my case flat black, it's now called midnight black. They look pretty sharp on the TRD PRO and I think it has the right mix of blacks flat and gloss that it will match nicely - I'll attach a pic. I'll probably be the only one who notices the difference so I'm giving it a shot to get this mod done.
Funny you should mention this, I was also wondering the same thing. Just for kicks I ordered a pair of after market mirrors from Amazon ($80pr) and they fit my 4runner perfectly. After carefully disassembling them I observed a few things. The "guts" of them where almost identical to the OEM mirrors. A few things where different like the adjustor motor mechanism, the way the mirror attached to the adjustor motor etc. The arm looked almost identical, but was mounted to the housing in a different way. It used phillips screws, instead of tork screws like ours and the 3-hole pattern for attaching the mirror to the door swivel was not spaced the same. The black back color cover was also close to the oem, but snapped on it a couple of slightly different points. It was obvious they would not work for the upgrade, so I carefully reassembled them and returned them. (gotta love amazon prime)

    Here is what I ordered

Part Number Part Name Price Quantity Total
    87910-35B91 Mirror Assembly $158.98 1 $158.98
    87940-35B61 Mirror Assembly $158.98 1 $158.98
    87945-42160-C4 Mirror Cover $36.18 1 $36.18
    87915-42160-C4 Mirror Cover $36.63 1 $36.63
    Total $390.77

    Coupon code 'EBAY10' 10% off - $39.08
    Total $ $351.69 + shipping (was just a little over $20)

To expand on my above post here are some pics of my 2011 mirrors when I disassembled them to attempt this mod. You can also see the comparison shot of the oem arm vs the arm in the kit.

    THANKS!

It's funny to me that you bought your parts from them. Conicelli Toyota is where I purchased my Tundra. They're only 25 minutes from our shop in Quakertown PA.

I'm less concerned about the flat color of the mirror than I am the painted covers. We'll figure that part out.

I'm glad you took the initiative to go the aftermarket route before me. Thanks for spending your time to help me out on that!

Conicelli has the best online prices, (that I have found?) especially with that coupon code. It's a bit tricky to use more than once, because they track the names, but obviously there are ways around that simple check. (the wife, the dog and the neighbor have all placed orders in the last year....;))

I noticed every new 4runner on the lot has the same flat'ish black color base mirror parts, then some have the turn signals, very few do not have turn signals. The parts with turn signals will be more expensive than what I bought/have. I do not want to add TS, IMHO it detracts from the all black look we have going on my trail model and that TRD PRO in the pic.

The color cover is just swapped out with the color of the 4runner, so the trick will be finding the color that matches yours. You might have to go back to different years to find it. I'm not sure if 2014-2109 all ran the same exact colors or not or if they even match the 2011 colors. In my case black is pretty universal.

Update: Okay, the 2019 mirrors arrived yesterday. It was fairly easy, to use the option 1 kit I purchased to modify the mirrors. It definitely is not a plug and play kit. The instructions for disassembling, then modifying the mirrors and connection plates are pretty good, but just didn't quite show the full steps needed. IF you're doing this mod, make sure you look at everything posted in this thread. I pretty much made it up as I went along using the instructions as a vague guide, I referred to the pictures earlier in this thread showing the "new connection plate mount point" by shaving the new spot to drill a hole and attach the motor.

I was less destructive to the OEM mirrors than the instructions showed. I left the one hole for mounting the oem mirror motor. On the oem mirror motor I also left the little hook for the wires. Leaving those 2 things helps orient the parts in the original position. So I also did not shave the 3 nubs off the back of the mirror glass because with every thing in the exact original place there was no need to.

I was also less destructive to the new connection plates by not cutting out the section mentioned for the turn signals (I don't have them in my mirrors.) I did have to shave off a few nubs on the connection plates to get a better fit.
I did not use the aluminum adjustor plate but I considered it. I just didn't want to keep cutting up the new connection plates to make clearance for those also.
I do see how some members might want to use it.

The first mirror took me about 2 hours, the second one 30 minutes. The bottom line is go slow, make some choices as you go along that might not be on the instructions and you should be able get a perfect fit for the new parts.

Also I took a few pics of my connector since it's different than the ones in the instructions. It has a couple of little tabs that you have to release to slide it apart so you can thread it through the various holes in the mirror, etc.

It actually looks like you need the older style connection plate

Good write up. Yeah. There are two different types of connectors that you can run into with this mod Andy you pointed out the one. It’s nice to have posts when people run into the different things throughout their installs. This happens on the Tacoma threads. It’s great to pass along helpful hints to others that can save them time later on as well.

As for the adjustment plates, I too didn’t use them in my mirrors. However, I wanted to make sure to include them in the kits as a member cane up with them and I figured what the heck, it wouldn’t hurt to offer them and make customers happy. I find that my mirrors are secure just fine without them though and I’ve had absolutely no issues. The key is to go slow and you can figure it all out. People get into trouble when they rush the process and get inpatient.

Again, thanks for sharing your install and things you ran into that are different and like the Kit explains, the Option 1 Kit is not a Plug-N-Play. If you get Option 1, it is not for a Beginner. So please do not purchase Option 1 if you don’t know what you are doing.

Yes, it does, It looks like it's a closer match. But obviously can't confirm until we have all the parts side by side.

Once I get these 2019 mirrors installed and working, I am willing to experiment on the original 2011 mirrors. If we can figure that out maybe we can open this mod up to a few more 4runner years.

Is there any way I can get a set of those older connection plates? or perhaps I can send you my old 2011 mirrors and you can see what you think?

@KTJO4X4 - Just wanted to report another successful DIY 5th Gen 4runner power-folding mirror install!!

    A couple of observations:
    1) The motors are noisier than I thought they would be.
    2) The drivers side takes about 1-2 seconds longer to open and 1-2 seconds longer to close than the passenger side? Odd? Have you seen this before? Bad motor maybe?
    3) The Original 2011 mirrors are heavier than the 2019 mirrors. Not much by much but enough to notice when I pulled them off. It's about a 1/2 pound each difference.

And one question, in the instructions, for wiring up the control module, Step 7: Installing the Replacement OEM switch. Paragraph 7, Fig 18 Shows to connect the white control box wire to the door lock. (WHITE=DOOR LOCK) Fig 19. says White=Unlock, Blue=Lock. Paragraph 8 says connect the white wire to locking system.

So.....I'm confused? Do I tap the 2 white wires together? White to white like my brain says I should.
Or do I tap the white control box wire to the Blue lock wire?

In the video you can hear how loud the motors are, is this normal?

I actually have requested for my vendor to send me a sample of every set of connection plate they have for Toyota vehicles so I know what vehicles I can and cannot do. When I get them, maybe you can send me one of the mirrors. That’s basically what I did with the 2003 that I just tested. I can let you know when they come in and we can go from there. It would definitely be nice to open it up to as many years as possible.

I thought I responded to this question. Maybe it was in a PM I’m not sure. You take the White Wire and tap it to the Blue Lock Wire. Yes. It’s normal. Motors are Motors. Haha Tbh I never just sit there and listen to them. I’m too amazed with the mod that I just love watching them Fold and Unfold still.

Yes, you responded to it in a PM. Mine just doesn't work with the lock/unlock for some reason. I've tapped the blue wire into the white wire.
I might need a little help trouble shooting this. Braves95 is trying to give me some things to double check. Anything you can add might help me track it down.

I think the noise is totally normal, not sure why it surprised me. I can hear it in some other videos, not an issue.

Question to everyone who has the mirrors already, core exchange or DIY, I just got my driver side mirror in and notice that the whole base is just a bit loose. Nothing crazy but just enough that when driving the images on the mirror almost always appear distorted because the glass is shaking. I did the core exchange with KTJO and just curious if its common and/or if there is something I should need to tighten up.

I’ll have to look at mine because mine don’t shake but I didn’t use a spacer or anything in mine and I only have one screw holding it together.

Can anyone send me a front view of this connector please

I have some great news! I may have found both the female and male connectors. I just need to verify the front view of this connector. If it is a match then it looks like I may be in business finally for your PNP Harness!!!

I can probably get that photo for you, just to be clear which location is that connector? Looks like driver side lowest point under the kick plate.

Please please...I cannot emphasize this enough, if you are going to purchase a DIY Kit, please make sure you are not a “Beginner” or you are going to have a professional do your install for you. Once you have the kit and and attempt the install and go at it, I cannot accept the kit for a return because I am unable to at that point send it to another customer. So please, make sure it is something you can take on within your skills set. If not, there are other packages for a reason.

Blue is the Lock Wire. I’m going to include the White which is the Unlock Wire. I know you do not use it for the Power Folding Mirrors but I figured in case you have another mod that uses the Lock and Unlock Wires, you will have both this way  vs just having the Lock Wire and that’s it. All of my Samples are made with Orange Wire, but the final version will be made with Black Wires. I did Blue and White Wire to Color Match your OEM Wires. Only other thing that would be absolutely amazing is if someone had a wire diagram of this connector and could tell me if one of these wires is a constant 12V wire because then I would add that wire too :)

Question: does this have/could it have a reverse auto-tilt feature?

It does not have the reverse mirror auto tilt feature. That is something that could be easily controlled by something but within this mod it is not included.

I have been told that the auto tilt is controlled by the ECU in the car

OP: I have a '19 TRD Off-Road that came factory w/o turn signals or puddle lights in the mirrors.
The question is first: is my vehicle compatible with changing to mirrors with embedded turn signals?

If it is, sign me up! I'm interested in swapping mirrors to add both (Option 3B).

Unlike the customer who abused your goodness, I would be happy to exchange mirrors in like-new condition! (Or even send you my mirrors first.)

Thanks for the excellent mod work!

Fireko, I did exactly what you are wanting to do here.

    A. With KTJO4x4's mirror program you can not buy the mirror swap with the Premium mirrors (Puddle lights and Turn Signals) and then return a set of non-premium mirrors, Option 3B.
    B. You can only do the option 2B to get the premium mirrors
    C. You will then need to run all wires for the puddle light and turn signals from the new mirrors to the interior of the cab and land at certain locations to get the power provided to these lights.

I did this exactly and know what you need to do if you want to PM me and I can share with you everything you need to know.
