I don't believe Texas has any restrictions (assuming all your paperwork is above board) but since we're already in a chunky SUV, getting away from anyone should be top priority. I (admittedly) laid on the horn at a Sentra blocking a straight lane at an intersection attempting to turn left and some RAM driver on the right side reason took offense at that and created some narrow-misses in an attempt to assert dominance so I just turned sooner. That'll teach me to be more judicious with horn use.

But then you gotta worry about securing the weapon, ensuring accessibility, etc.

Yeah since I got the 2023 I too have had Hi-Beams flashed when I have lo Beams on. I just flash to let them see real Hi Beams coming at them. Yes, I too have a CC Permit.
Wait till I put my Aspire Brite Box Anytime Fog Light in Sat. I had LED's in Fog lights & switched the lo Beams W/mod to cut tab from either the H9- H11 or vice vs because that was 1 of the 1st things I noticed going from 2015 Tacoma TRD to TRD OR was HOW POOR the Lo Beams were on the 4Runner.I rewired my Fog lights for Anytime on my 2018 & never got flashed.

adaptive headlights, ive read, work great but of course aren't available on vehicles sold in the US.

Then again active headlights require 'puters which a lot of members on this forum dislike quite a bit. come to think of it, there are a lot of things that members on this forum dislike about 4Runners haha

I always have the heat, I can't just pull it out on the guy without being in harms way. I live in CT with some of the worst gun laws in the country so even brandishing holds a big penalty

It's not just 4R, a lot of newer vehicles have really bright low beams. Also, more and more people are depending on auto-dimming that doesn't always work well.

Each state is different. Here in Nevada it has ALWAYS been legal to carry a loaded HANDGUN in a vehicle. But not a rifle or shotgun...law passed because of "hunters" who drive the roads and shoot animals from their vehicle.

I think some of the problem might be that though the headlights might be properly aimed at the factory, once we load all our gear in the back (including heavy aftermarket bumpers with tire carriers for some of us), the back squats down so the headlights point higher. I have an air compressor and all kinds of recovery/survival gear in the back of my 4Runner that I'll bet weighs well over 100 lbs.

Headlights may be high, but they’re always going to be right in the mirrors of a car. I dealt with it all the time in my old GTI.

I still deal with it in my GTI. It's so much lower than my 4Runner. What's funny is the hood is taller than the roof of my GTI.

Stock here too and get flashed/beeped at multiple times a week from people thinking I have my high beams on.

I’ve resorted to immediately flashing my actual high beams to show them it’s just the low beams. No road rage incident yet, hopefully stays that way.

Tinting the windows helps alot. Even went 5% on the rear window on the 4Runner and it kills even the worst glare from those shitty blinding aftermarket HIDs.

Might get the rear one on my Honda redone to 5% to match how good the 4Runner is at blocking bright lights from behind.

Have my front windows tinted on both so reflection off the side mirrors isn’t an issue too.

If someone gets out of their vehicle and proceeds to walk toward you with a weapon, run him over.

Maybe you guys need to adjust you lights.

I'm running h9 bulbs and I always have on my diode dynamics pro yellow fogs(which are super bright) and I rarely get flashed.

If you have bright white lights, like most led lights. I could see how you get flashed as my eyes are very sensitive to that. Go yellow/amber you won't regret it.

    I have a 2002 TDI Golf and a 2004 Cummins.
I also build headlights as a hobby and have done lots of retrofits for my rigs and others'.

Being in a low car as you mentioned, it's just the way it is. Lower to the ground, you get blasted no matter what. Just do what I can not to look at headlights like a bug to a lamp.

How many people after they level their vehicles, appropriately re-adjust them? To back up, how many people appropriately adjust them without a level? (not aiming this at the poster I quoted, it's just a general statement) Vehicles even coming out of the factory aren't correct.

The DOT specification for HID's or lights with a "sharp" cutoff is per the diagram I made for another forum. This is to be done 25ft away from a wall, on a level surface:
I apologize for the image being huge, I haven't found the way on this forum yet to resize.

The above image is for a completely stock vehicle. Leveling, adding larger tires, etc, you still have to (or should for other's sake) re-adjust. The red lines are the physical projector on the vehicle. The blue lines are the steps of the cutoffs of the beam, as seen on the wall. Vehicle center is pretty obvious. It's hard to read, but the lower blue step that jets off to the left into the other lane, should be 2.1-2.5" below the physical projector height on the vehicle, which you'd mark with tape on the wall.

2.1-2.5 is pretty specific, highly doubtful anyone will get it within .100", so shooting for 2+ is a good number, on a stock vehicle. If you add a lift/leveling kit, you need to account for this and that 2.1-2.5" value might become 5+ (obviously depends what you're running)

There's a lot of people out there just ignorant dropping HID's and LED's in reflector housings, spewing high intensity scattered light everywhere, but there's also a good majority of people with newer style projectors, whether it be LED or HID, that straight up just have them aimed improperly.

I'm jealous of you guys who are getting people who flash their lights and give you a chance to show them you're not using brights. Most of the people I encounter just turn their brights on. It's frustrating.

I gave up on adjusting to a specific clinical level. The stock 21 LED low beams (they may be different after that) seem to require a more authentic adjustment procedure.

When I adjust mine, I take a screw driver with me and do it on the road in conditions that I drive. If I cant see reasonably, I keep adjusting up until I get flashed. Then I lower them down a smidge until I don’t.

I also think I found a trick with the 2021 LEDs. The cutoff severity is less bad if I have the passenger side a little higher than the drivers. Not so much that the passenger side starts to sweep the vision of others, just a bit higher so it can fill slightly above the driver’s side cutoff.

Also, regarding responding to road ragers…getting constantly railed by cop car intensity lights is extremely aggravating, I hate it myself especially when pitch black outside and looking at the edge of the road doesn't help. I think it’s worth taking the extra effort to adjust these lights to find the right balance.

If it happens again, just tell the other driver that you just picked up your vehicle from the shop and they probably overfilled your high beam blinker fluid reservoir and that you'll get to it as soon as you get home, than thank them for letting you know as you wouldn't want to blind anyone else.

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.

I think some of the issue is hills and such blind me but I don’t get flashed.
I ended up going with new halogen bulbs when I needed them. Didn’t want to “upgrade“ to led because I don’t want a fan and they aren’t legal replacements. And I saw this way way at the bottom of Lasfit’s website IMG_9152.png

If you had a carry permit you wouldnt be asking this question. Get a license to carry and check state laws youll be traveling in.

Pa is Open carry but I have CC Permit. My thoughts are IF you have it exposed the bad guys would want to you out 1st W/out warning to eliminate their risk.:notsure: Plus I just have it because you never know !!! After having to go to Temple U Hospital helipad yrs ago to R&R a S/Gen on the A/C & seeing the surroundings, talking W/Security that told me "as a white person you do NOT want to be around here at night" HIS words NOT mine. I decided then I would get a CC Permit & have NOT let it expire, nor had to banish my weapon & I hope I never have too either. I spent 10 yrs W/NJSP Aviation Unit, went to Newark NJ WAY too many times W/OUT because I lived in Pa. yet worked in NJ, No surrounding states Except I believe W.Va. acknowledge Pa CC Permit!! BUT FL does, NJ acknowledges FL BUT Not Pa.'s WT Hey?? Should be a Fed CC Permit. You have to go through FBI Back Gnd check to get one at least in Pa. Just my humble opinion on that subject. Be safe & watch out for the wack jobs because they're out there

I constantly get flashed in my 23 4R with low beams on almost everytime i drive in the dark. I have even had cars in front of me pull off to the side and let me pass.

I also get flashed in my '22 4R on low beams. They are white and bright. I've noticed that there is a very definitive line where the light stops vertically. So I tend to keep my distance behind another driver especially on dark roads and that makes a huge difference. As mentioned the sweep can be a issue when turning being the recepient of more than one middle finger salute. Really though my 4R headlights are amazing they light up the ditches beside the road like no other vehicle I've owned. I have been able to spot and miss hitting deer, skunks, coons etc on multiple occasions. So that makes it all worth it in my book excepting the odd jackass of course.
