No, not really. Chevy 350 sucked gas like a schoolgirl with a soda thru a straw!! Twice-broken knee, upper arm broke in 3 places= trouble with the clutch and lack of power steering. Hated 3 on the column! Wish I had my 1983 FJ40 still, though!

My take is the 2024 Land Cruiser 1958 model is a $55k+ version of a $44k 2024 TRD Off-Road 4Runner with maybe a stiffer frame. Can't speak to the engine, but god knows I hope it has a transmission that can find a gear at 75 on the highway.

I'm looking forward to seeing it in person. It's exciting to see us getting a Landcruiser that's semi-affordable. We'll see how much the dealers try to gouge, though.

The drivetrain looks good on paper. I'm not concerned about power. But, between a turbo and a hybrid system, a lot more complicated than these dinosaurs.

So the new Land Cruiser will also outflex us? :(

IIRC, that was an older Landcruiser, with KDSS.

You didn't think the 4Runner would have more flex than the Landcruiser, did you?

Well, see, this is my point, I kinda feel like the cost differential between the current 5th gen 4R, and the new 1958 model Land Cruiser isn't justified by the changes. I get that the LC looks great, and sure, a new powertrain is kinda cool. But, functionally, like, going off road, meh. No difference. I feel like it's the same capabilities for an extra $12k.

Maybe I'm just cheap, but I like to get something for my money. Putting a new box on the same old capabilities doesn't feel like a great deal. Just my .02.

I do like the way the new LC looks, and like I said, I'm hoping the new powertrain is significantly more pleasant to drive on a highway than the 5th gen 4R.

People are already paying more than $55K for 4Runners. And, the drivetrain on the LC should be a massive upgrade in power and fuel economy.

I'm also very curious what the actual potential is going to be. Maybe the LC will have more suspension travel, or the ability to fit decent sized tires without butchering it. :notsure:

Agreed about highway driving. I thought it was fine when it was stock, though. The gearing just sucks, IMO.

Good point! If they're coming with 33's from the factory, maybe we can fit 35's without a lot of work.

Yeah, I hear you, people are paying for the TRD Pro, which makes zero sense *to me*. :)

I mean, I thought paying $45k for a TRDORP was way way too much for an ancient model, so, you can see where I'm coming from. I like my 4R, but, if I didn't spend 50% of my driving on an unmaintained dirt road...hmmm.

I'll just wait and see how it all turns out. Maybe it will be amazing and the money will make sense. Never know.

It's an interesting year, with the new Taco, GX, LC, and upcoming 4Runner. I'm anxious to see what that's going to look like, and pricing. It really can't jump much with the new LC being only $55K. Hopefully they'll nail it with the 4Runner!

Yep, crazy how many new products are coming! I agree, with the price of the LC, 4Runner can’t go up much. Let’s hope they don’t take away any capabilities of the next gen 4R!

LC will have more suspension flex than the 4Runner, I am sure about that.

Based on what they are doing with the Tacos, I'm actually hoping for it to be a better platform than the 5th gen. But, I'm trying not to get my hopes up. I'm just going to cross my fingers and prepare to have a difficult decision to make in the next year.
