Hmmm. Im going to hazard a guess that my Limited sees way more off-road, desert, gullies and washes, then 98% of the people on this board. I shake my head when people post that kind of stuff.

Just wanted to point out if you're driving and wheeling it, you don't have to look at it as one is INSIDE the truck, not outside looking and dreaming.

I like all of the trim levels for different reasons. One thing I have noticed. The ORP seems to be the best value and it holds resale value a little better than the rest.

When I purchased my 2023 Limited back in January I paid MSRP + $149. I live in mid-MO (Columbia) and at that time the dealerships in STL and KC were charging a little higher premium over MSRP - maybe like $300-$500 more. The Columbia and Jeff City dealerships didn't have what I wanted. I bought mine at Straatmann Toyota in Washington, MO - and was happy at the time to find what I wanted for $149 over MSRP. I think right now you can still find 4Runners in Missouri for right at, or slightly above, MSRP - so you are probably talking ~$5000 more for a GX460 right now. I totally get what you are saying about comfort, ride quality, engine/road noise - and with your need to tow a boat - another $5K for a GX460 is a no brainer. The 4Runner, even the Limited, is a truck and it rides like a truck - which is exactly what I wanted. Before this 4Runner I drove a 2010 Tacoma TRD Sport for 12.5 years. Loved that truck and it drove as good as the day I bought it when I gave it to my son with 145K miles on the ODO. I really didn't have any comfort concerns with the Tacoma - but when I test drove the 4Runner is was a lot more comfortable to drive - so I was more than happy with the ride quality. gomiami - I see you are close to KC - so you know the roads in MO are shit. We've had vehicles in the past that were designed more for ride quality/comfort. My wife drove a 2006 Honda Odyssey for several years - that was a great vehicle for our family - but the suspension and ride quality just did not hold up well on MO roads. I was amazed at how the suspension/ride quality of the Tacoma I had held up over the years/miles. After 145K miles, original shocks/original everything except tires - it still drove/rode like it was new. My plan is to put 200K+ miles on this Limited - which will take me 15+ years - but my experience with the Tacoma is one of the main reasons I bought a 4Runner. I'm not saying the GX460 won't hold up well with regards to its ride quality - I expect it will do very well - just saying that the truck like ride quality of my Limited is more than enough for me vs. my expectations for durability/reliability.

Fair enough. Limited is a great trim if you never have to look at it :p
I love looking at my 4runner. I think it is quite nice looking vehicle. And I agree with you, when you are driving you aren't looking at it. But for me, if my vehicle isn't good to look at I'd buy something else. Or keep my eyes closed when I am outside the the vehicle, is another way to go I suppose!

I actually went limited for the AWD feature. My wife drives a Subaru and I figured if she needed to drive it there was no thinking involved. Most of my previous vehicles had manual hubs and a lever.
in my case the answer is YES and YES but she’s going to do it anyway. Might as well not start with the cards stacked against ya.

Agree. Pro is my favorite trim and my personal choice but really liked the black line edition GX460 in Nori Green. Tough choice between the 2 for me.

Felt the GX was a much nicer truck but maybe too refined for my taste? Honestly enjoyed driving the 4Runner more. Plus that GX front bumper is too low and kind of silly looking, although looks MUCH better in that black line trim.

Have seen a few jokes regarding the Limited….is it mostly the chrome people hate? I get the head scratching decision of Toyota equipping it with 20” wheels but never thought it looked too bad.

In fact, saw one where all the chrome is blacked out and thought it looked pretty nice. Past the Pro front end/grill, not actually sure if I prefer the other grills over the limited but to each their own lol.

I suspect it is a bit of a “Buick” problem.

Cadillac used to be respected as a luxury car. Chevrolet was respected as an everyman car.

And Buick, being right between them, didn’t fit into either slot perfectly.

Substitute this with Mercedes and VW and Audi before the late 90s and it’s the same issue - Piëch himself said that Audi’s biggest problem was that it didn’t have an identity at the time.

The Limited would get more respect if it wore a Lexus badge, or if it lost some of the mass-affluence in favor of being more like the other 4Runners.

    Instead, it’s in the middle.

I don't think there's a problem with the Limited at all. I see them all the time. The fact that some of the members here don't like the way they look doesn't really mean anything.

The only people who don't respect the Limited are a handful of opinionated people who own different trims of 4Runners. Nobody else cares.

I agree. I HATE how it looks but if you own it and personally like it why do you care!? I also don’t see sR5P ORP trim owners creating threads that their trim is the best. So if such a thread was created for limited I feel compelled to give my opinion. You can take the opinion for what it’s worth — opinion of someone on the internet, which is worth probably nothing:)

if you like it buy it and enjoy it. Don’t look for approval by creating threads claiming this is the best trim. Because people then would give their opinions, as they should.

I agree. But, it seemed like this thread was created as a bit of a joke based on the OP.

Every trim has its pros and cons. It seems like most of us just buy the trim that makes sense for us and don't really worry about it.

But, like you, I do tend to throw in my opinion when The subject does come up.

There isn't a trim that I dislike. All 4Runners are cool. I always have liked the look of the Limited, though. I'm not put off by the chrome or wheels. Actually like them. And the Limited is probably noticeably better handling on-road than my OR. My only concern here in Ohio would be, some of the massive potholes would be more risky on a lower-profile tire. But I wouldn't obsess over that.

Are the springs and shocks different? If not, then it wouldn’t necessarily be better handling on road.

Wheel size and tire profile don’t automatically mean better handling. Tire sidewall and pressure need to be considered as part of the system. Unless you are selecting springs and shocks with specific wheels and tires in mind, you can’t automatically say that moving to lower profile tires is going to result in better handling.

    The shocks are definitely different.

Better handling would probably be a result of XREAS rather than low profile tires.

I don't care about the silver valance on the back of mine. But the silver valance on the front? I thought it looked so stupid that I had mine painted to match the body color.

I said that the Limited is probably better handling on-road than my OR. I didn't say why I thought that, but it's because of XREAS and things I've heard about that system. The only thing I said about the lower-profile tires is that they're probably more at risk to pothole damage. I didn't say that the lower profile tires would help handling.

To each his own. I love my Limited. I have wanted a 4runner since the early 2000s but ended up buying my dad's Pathfinder. I bought the 4runner for its reliability. I don't do much off-road activities but love the looks and needed something to haul my motorcycles with and we have a place in the mountains of NC, so it's nice knowing if needed, I can drive up in the winter. Plus, as an added benefit, with all of the snow we get here in Atlanta, it's nice to know I can still make it down the road.;)
