Yep, the "80" is the sidewall height, so in order to get less sidewall roll as the sidewall increases, it needs to be stiffer; therefore you see them as "E" rated (a stiffer sidewall).

Out here in Colorado a lot of people prefer the extra sidewall strength of E load tires. So most people are buying E rated tires anyway. Rocks out here get angry lol

I like the 6112s b/c there a closed system, the dampings nice, it removes the L to R lean and their set and forget..

    Will 255/80/17 fit a stock 4Runner?

That question has been answered 100 times on this forum and several times in this very thread. ;) (Not to be a jerk). The short answer is no. The better answer is, yes, with some very minor modifications. Depending on the tire, it usually only takes removing the front mudflaps and possibly some small trimming of plastic inside the front wheel well. 255/80 is definitely the easiest 33" tire to get to work, as they don't require a BMC.

I'm a tried and true 255 fan. I ran them for many years on my Tacos in 255/85R16, and I now run them on my 4Runner in 255/80R17.

They might mount up fine but would have a stretched look and be more likely to debead.

I've hear old jeep guys would mount wide tires on skinny wheels to avoid debeading. Think 285/70/17 on a 7.5 or 8" wheel

djwantke, my wheels in the two photos right above your post are 8.5" Method 701's, so they are above the recommended range listed by 1SilverRunner, and I've had no problems. I've had them aired down quite a bit and been on some pretty off-camber stuff, and had no issues. The caveat is that supposedly those Methods have a design that makes them very secure, nearly to the level of a bead lock, if their advertising is to be believed, so you may have different results with a different wheel. I'm confident with the 8.5's, but I don't think I would go up to a 9.

Thanks! Lol I consider viper stock. A bmc would be a big no for me. There is actually another thread on this forum where people put 255s on their stock stock t4rs. That thread helped me make the decision.

Im just being cheeky, but a little cut in the bumper is a price worth paying for these tires. I got the viper cut prior to the tires, I'm sure it would not hve rubbed under normal driving conditions. That given +15mm offset wheels, Pro wheels might be another story.

Thanks! I got E1 rated tires, I was expecting them to be a significantly harsher ride than the Dunlops, but I they are only slightly bumpy imo. Also DT filled them to 36psi vs 32psi on Dunlops I had before.

    Interesting.

I was the other way. BMC was no big deal for me but the viper cut I was on the fence about.
285/75/17s on 17x8.5 -12 plus some spidey trax spacers made that decision for me.

The extra clearance helps with obstacles a lot more than I expected though.

For me a BMC is a more major and potentially irreversible modification than cutting my bumper. Can always get a new bumper.
With 285s and -12 offser I think bmc was unavoidable anyhow...

Surprisingly the BMC wasn't needed with -12 offset and 285/70/17s.
It was needed after switching to 285/75/17.
Added the spacers for a wider stance. Then the viper cut was needed.

Yea man great size and the safest jump up in size when it comes to additional rubbing.
Probably the choice I should go with.
But part of me is tempted to try big badass bass guy 295/70’s @Thatbassguy or small 35’s: 315/70R17

Anyone know if 35x10.5 or 35x11.5 is commonly available in Canada?
    Thanks

    Hah

This reminds me of a post I made a few years ago where I famously said I am absolutely not interested in a BMC, too hardcore for me…and then I shamefully Quoted that post last year the morning I succumbed to a BMC + fender mount chop n weld

If you look at my previous post in this thread, I ran my 4Runner completely stock for awhile. I did have to remove the front mud flaps, but you could probably get away with a heat gun and some flattening. When I added wheel spacers, I did have to trim the front bumper. I also wheeled the crap out of mine stock with 255's.

    Hah!
    That’s a fun looking truck.
My 4R was bone stock for 5 years after buying new, then I opened Pandora’s box in ‘21.

I have steel sliders going on mid July, followed by YotaTune OTT, which should compliment 34’s or 35’s in a maybe a year. Sell my load E Mickey’s while they have good tread.
    @captrussia253 you running 35’s?
    315/70R17?
    Load C or D?

E/LT rated tires are much stronger on the streets too. I have never had a nail or screw in my tire with them. Any time I have ever had P rated tires I end up with them. My 4Runner is a year old now and has had 2 or 3 nails in tires with the stock tires.

285/75r17 is pretty close. Just slightly taller and slightly wider.
