LOL you are not familiar with how car companies, especially Japanese ones, operate, do you?

    LOL

    Hand on.

    LMAO

Let me put into wording that can be digested. In the US where Toyota sees how status conscious buyers are, Toyota will never allow even the possibility of confusion such that a salesman can point to a 50k Taco or 4Runner engine and say it's the same one they use in the LS500 or LX600, even if it has one less turbo. But they are okay with letting the 70-85k Sequoia buyer feel good about have the same engine as the LX. Meanwhile the LX buyer will feel great paying 120k-140k for an LX that looks completely different from the Sequoia and built in Japan.

All the while, they sell the J300 in other developed countries for 65k.

    LOL

Yeah that same 2.4 is being used in the 2025 Rickshaws sold abroad also. Same logic to cut down on emissions

Yep, because EU regulations makes ours look like Australia, and China is trying to kill ICE vehicles altogether so BYD can take over market share from non-Chinese brands there and also squeeze out non Chinese brands outside of china.

All these LOL's and LMAO's. Are you a 15 year old girl?

Have you forgotten about the 2UZ-FE?

It was used in the 4Runner, Tundra, Land Cruiser, GX, and LX.

You mean the 2UZ that was last put into a 4Runner 21 years ago for 2004? I was not aware it was put in the Taco.

Look around once in a while and see why your idea of a 3.4T in a Taco is patently absurd at best, infantile to be frank.

    LOLOLOLOL

and a free LMAO just so you feel like a seasoned automotive observer.

You also can’t have the same engine in the Tacoma and Tundra. That wouldn’t make any sense.

Dropping from twins to a single turbo wouldn't make sense, but different tuning might. Lower boost would create less maximum power to give the Lexus a leg up.

I still wouldn't have expected it, though.

2009 was actually the last year for the V8 4Runner. 2004 was only the second year it was an option.

I started up a new LC and thought it sounded like a 2004 Honda civic compared to the 5th gen T4R.

As far as fuel economy; the LC250 is averaging 18.76 MPG on Fuelly, which is better (not by much, but better) than any recent model year 4Runner. Considering that the 4Runner has a lower roof line and weighs less than the 250, it should get a little better fuel economy yet.

You're going to have to be more specific about the rickshaw comparison. Some rickshaws are actually pretty quiet...

Since you are so smart, then why don't you explain to the rest of us why the 4Runner is back to sharing a motor with the taco, not to mention the Land Cruiser, and why the 4R didn't get the 3.4T like you were SO surprised to hear?

    LOL LMAO LOLZ

PS it ain;t 2009 anymore, I bet you forgot about that, didn't you? :D

That's right, only been 16 years since that.

"nimby" better invent a time machine to take him back to 2009 to warn everyone that they were living the height of luxury and things would be far more price segregated going forward.

Well, before this whole thing turns into a pissing match, you guys both have valid points.

A detuned 3.4 would have made manufacting even more streamlined, as they would all share the same engine. It seems like that would be super simple for Toyota.

However, I can't speak to the actual cost difference between the 3.4 V6 VS the 2.4 I4. Plus, the T24A was an existing engine, so R&D might not have been a huge factor

But, I also have wondered if they discontinued the V8 option on the 4Runner due to the 4Runner pulling sales from the GX. So, I get why Toyota might not want to use the same engine in a premium Lexus as a lower priced Toyota.

With the same motor and drivetrain options US market tended to skew toward the Toyota brand. Note the premium that J80 onward LCs command over their Lexus counterparts on the used market.

that's probably why once the Lexus brand was created here just for the US, they stopped offering the Cressida and RWD sedans in general such that we will never get a Toyota brand counterpart to the IS, GS or LS to maintain the status of those cars.

Oh absolutely, product differentiation without question - if it'll push folks upmarket, it'll be tried or at least talked about.

The Maverick XL not having cruise from the get-go (common in work-truck specs though), I sat in a Colorado WT where a sunglasses holder only came standard starting with LT trim, Toyota gating full-time 4WD behind Limited trim after wide availability the previous generation, making the V8 (and now V6) a Lexus exclusive. And the usual refrain is that getting the features you want is only $____ more!

A tale as old as capitalism!

With using 91 winter fuel, temps in the 20s-30s, mix of highway/town, driving like Miss Daisy I'm lucky to get 19-20 MPG. Our 4Runner gets that without premium fuel.

Local dealer tried us on, one of the new 4R-SR5-4WD with $3500 in options, $5000 market adjustment. I say, take the market adjustment off, no deal.
We always buy SR5-4WD, no unwanted options, 6 new 4R's since 2008.

Spent over 2 hours with these guys, they bring their closer in, bull crap, just loaded questions. We will go back to the dealer we have purchased from in past years, no market adjustment or get ready charge. We can catch an allotment unit if it is close to what we want, or we can wait, ordering or close will do it.

Enclosed picture after two washes. :).

If you are just getting the SR5 then I would say wait until the MY2026 rolls in.

Also, 6 4Rs since 2008? Did you each drive a 4R at one point?

I’ve driven the Taco with iForce Max. Transition was actually smooth, made decent thrust, but it conjures up a symphony of 4 cylinder thrum, direct injectors clacking, turbo whistle, and random electric whines. To my ears, a lot like the Millennium Falcon leaving Tatooine.

Naturally, my seven year old absolutely loved it. And, if I’m going to be honest, so did the seven year old in me.

Not a Gen6 buyer though…not at these prices. But a year from now, with cash on the hood, I think a lot of the 4Runner faithful will consider it because overall it’s a solid redesign, and still comes from Tahara.

Yes, there were other buys during this time, 2 new OR Tacomas, TRD's 1 Highlander. Different dealers, different states. Best deals we ever got, was at
    Clinton, TN, Fox Toyota.

I test drove a 2024 Lexus TX 500h. same(I think) 2.4l turbo hybrid max power train essentially as the LC250 and upcoming 4runner. #'s on paper anyhow

It was magical to drive, quiet AF and pulled like a beast, gets 26/27MPG, I own a 2025 LC, it's loud and slow off the line... Trying to learn more about the difference between them besides body on frame vs big unibody.

I do love my LC but wish it were more refined from an engine perspective. :annoyed:

You got me curious so I looked quickly and it appears that the TX500h has 40 more HP and weighs almost 500lbs less.
