Powering a home is feasible but there's some finer wrinkles to it. People have definitely done some setups but with 1500W you're talking peak output of just one outlet. 2400W is definitely more headroom but you'd also have to double-check what electronic safeguards there are and make sure the wiring you run can accept the current. The F-150 Powerboost will be the superior option with it's 7.2 kW peak output.

(e.g. people sleeping in a RAV4 Prime/Hybrid have to dismiss an auto-off dialog from the dash and maybe lock the car in a specific way for running it overnight.)

Hybrids like these aren't meant to be (effectively: can't be) charged by anything other than the engine/regenerative braking. Even if you could, the difference won't be very big. Especially compared to an actual plug-in hybrid.

From what I've heard, even the Sequoia hybrid can drive a little on electrons-only when coasting or at low speed but it's going to effectively always be combined and computer controlled.

On Toyota's lighter-duty hybrids, they have an EV mode button (not sure if the trucks do) that requests electric-only driving for a short distance. Maybe a mile. Good for repositioning a car without firing up the engine but probably not something you'll use often.

Do note that Toyota's bulletproof hybrid setup in all their smaller cars is different than what they're using here. The Prius, RAV4, etc. have a planetary gearset CVT combining two electric motors and the gas engine. Crazy simple and efficient but I guess not quite up for truck duties.

I believe the "Max" hybrids (Grand Highlander Hybrid Max, Sequoia, Tacoma, LC...) have an conventional stepped automatic transmission with an electric motor between that and the engine. Less simple but I'd still expect it to be dependable.

Looks just like a progression of the silver accents they like to stick on the Off-Road models today.

4 cylinder turbo in a vehicle this big? I don't think you'll be getting the reliability over the long term that you're gonna get with A V6

Interesting choice by the designers to wrap the C-pillar window up over the top of the roof edge.

Can't wait to here the engineer's reason for that.

No it's fact now , it's not 1984 . The manual transmission has not improved for over a decade. Automatics however have and you typically get better gas mileage as well with them

it will look less bulbous and more sporty like the current one once you remove the front air dam which will just be a few screws like the new tacos. Going to take me a little bit to get used to the new look like it did with the taco but this confirms everything we suspected.

New hybrid so fantastic off road mpg

2400 watt inverter in rear + 2nd inverter outlet for 2nd row

Front tires pushed forward so entry and departure angles are worse but will get improvement when you put bigger tires on which it looks just like the taco meaning you can fit 35's with very little trimming and work

    front sway bar disconnect

    big screen

    stupid "TOYOTA" branding EVERYWHERE

stock aux buttons - thats cool

    dumbass removable JBL speaker

    heated steering wheel

same 4x4controls and everything as a taco

grab handles in rear and passenger ....eh

looks like maybe less leg room for the rear? maybe? hard to tell

loss a little space because the floor in the cargo bay sits higher for the hybrid battery

    vented and heated seats

33's, suspension looks like its exactly the same as the new taco, meaning 35's will be an "easy" fit

    trailer brake controller

lower rood line? less head room?

IMO the front end looks less aggressive than I would like but I'm sure that can be fixed with mods.

Not to mention the amount of gas you are burning to get that measly 1500w from the truck. And I have a feeling these are cheap square wave or modified sine inverters like in the existing trucks - in other words not a good idea to risk powering sensitive electronics like TVs and laptops on them...

If you get a lot of power outages its a lot more fuel efficient and economical to just buy a small inverter generator. You can get 2000w models from Champion, Yamaha, Honda in the $500-1500 range that will run the critical loads in your house all day on a couple gallons of gas.

Helpful info! Thanks for the explanations.

So on the Tacoma and potentially 4runner hybrids, if say you’re using electric to run an induction stove, a water heater, electric blankets, etc, would the gas engine remain off while drawing electric power, and would the engine simply fire up if the charge gets too low?

You are not going to run an induction range or a water heater off this truck. Induction stoves are usually hooked up to the same 50A 240v range outlets (12kW) as standard electric stoves and electric water heaters use 30A 240v (7.2kW) hookups.

An electric blanked will probably be fine. regular 120v load and likely 500w or less....

Looks like a 5th gen rear with a 4th gen tacoma front end. I like the design of the 5th gen better. The design doesn’t really flow well for me on this new one.

You made me realize I assumed the 1500W option was pure sine wave rather than modified this whole time and went looking for evidence either way.

Details seem sparse but I have found one anecdote of the RAV4 Prime’s 1500W outlet being pure sine wave so far… but whether that applies to the entire lineup?

ither way, definitely a fun camping party trick and no separate system to maintain.

The gas engine will cycle on and off depending on the traction battery’s charge so you will have to plan for and expect exhaust when in use.

I love it! Need to see some more pics of the TRD Pro and Trailhunter but I'll probably get one of them. I actually never really liked the way the 5th gen looked and I still have a 4th Gen V8 Limited. There is a resemblance there.

I hope the output is usable for some of the solar battery generators out there. I saw a tinkerer review on a battery that would not take maximum charge rate due to that on the factory inverter.

Not a houshold range…I meant like the single-pot induction camping type stoves, or a little water heater for a camping shower setup. Hopefully, it would be able to tackle those types of things, right?

    It really does lol.

The rear end seems to be the weakest visual design aspect to my eye. Not that it’s bad by itself, but compared to rest of it. I gotta admit though, the front, front quarter and the sides angles on the 6th gen look even better on the 4runner than they do on the tacoma.

The OG 5th gen with the original flat/rectangular headlights was the only truly good looking 5th gen in my opinion. Once they went to the pokemon headlights with the gangster teardrop front end on the refresh, it lost the old school charm. The current 5th gen front end was something I had to forgive when I decided to buy it.

Then new 6th gen is more angular and aggressive on the whole, but besides the relatively softish rear end design, it ties nicely together. Not that I could design anything better lol. If I were to buy a 6th gen, I don’t think I need to forgive any of these styling elements. With my luck, I’ll be in the market after a mid-cycle refresh that adds some monstrous design element that stinks up this design lol.

I wish the front roof rack mounting points were full length though. Definitely some lost utility there.
