Well it is obviously bullshit because he says it is, just like how anyone mentioning tranny issues are all trolls, no exceptions.

Of course not. But it is not as widespread as the trolls want you to think. Especially on a 4Runner forum. That’s completely unfounded.

I'm not sure calling people trolls is going to help you cause when you acknowledge yourself that it is a known issue, and neither Pavo nor Ferguson said "wide spread", just that these are documented issues.

I had no idea 2024 Tacomas had a trim called "Off Road Premium".

I don’t know how many transmissions failed but it must have been quite a bit for Toyota to issue a TSB about it.

In my experience Toyota is just as reluctant as Stellantis to roll out TSBs and only does so when pressed hard.

It took them about 5 years to say something about the oil consumption problem of the last 2.4 I4 they made for the US market, which is why I hold a wait-and-see attitude at people assuring us here that "T24A has been tested and no issues" when Tacos only had it for less than a year and we have no idea what usage pattern and warranty stats are like on it.

It’s a term in common usage. Short for premium package with all the doo dads that come with it. But you already knew that. Blame Toyota for their model and trim level inconsistencies.

Out of 170,000 2024 Tacomas sold, how many do you think are on the road? How many VINs are covered by the Tacoma transmission TSB?

How many are 2025 4Runners? NONE, which makes the whole discussion moot.

I like to go into every purchase knowing all the possible problems. Since the Tacoma and 4Runner both have the same engine and transmission it seems pretty relevant to me.

No, Off Road Premium has never been used to describe a 4th gen Taco Trim. It's just you.

I suspect you already know that any sales figure contains units sold to dealers and have not found buyers yet.

You are not making any sense but it's okay. You likely wrote a big check for your Tacoma "Off Road Premium" so I understand you may be a little defensive.

But see, 0 recalls on the 2025 4Runners so he obviously won the internet and everyone who doesn't give him "likes" are just trolls.

But if I were him and spent a minimum of 53k on a Taco "ORP" I would want to see praises too.

I had to go and build it and I guess now people are acutally paying at least 53k for a so called "ORP" Taco built in mexico. Once options are added it's gonna get close to a 60k truck.

I think the Gen 5 4Runners will be the next classics in a few years (like the LC 200).

In order to be a "classic", it has to be limited in numbers. 1.47 million 5th gen 4Runners sold, vs. less than 108k LC200 and LX570 combined. There will be plenty of used 5th gens to buy/resell.

While we are keeping count, the 3rd gen Tacoma sold 1.8 million in 8 years, making it the most popular Toyota truck in the history of western civilization.

With so many people putting on 25k+ miles a year on their 5th gens, it won't take long for numbers to dwindle from wear, aging, crashes, etc.

Look at how hard clean 3rd gen 4Rs have been to find in the past 5 years even though they were selling at similar annual numbers for 8 model years.

I'm OK with a shitload being sold. I didn't buy the 5th gen for it to become a moneymaking classic. With that many sold, hopefully parts will be available for quite a long time after sales stop

^Yep, widespread parts availability and support know-how contributed to my choice of vehicles as well.

3rd gens have been discontinued for 22 years. Lol imagine trying to find a 5th gen in 2046. Probably need to buy gasoline in small cans in boutique stores by then.

I think they will be similar to an XJ Cherokee which there were around 3 million made. It took around 20 years after they stopped being produced and the help of Matts Off-road Recovery to make them cool again.

Fuck me. I remember watching the show "beyond 2000" on discovery channel growing up, where all cars were going to be solar powered over 20 years ago.

Pretty sure every kid growing up in the '50s thought they would be flying like George Jetson by now.

Whatever dude, they were always cool. I have a cousin who has 400k on hers. That straight 6 was no joke for reliability. Jeep is not what it used to be though, which is why I now own a toyota

The 5th Gen 4runner is never going to be a classic. There are tens of thousand on the road and with a production run that spanned almost 15 years, you will be able to pick these up in every condition at every price point.
Plus, the updated model from 2014+ just does not have the looks to be called a classic.

If you are old enough you would remember finding a clean 2000-2002 was already hard around 2015-2019.

Yeah, but in 60 years, are you going to be able to find one in good condition like sought after original FJs?

Sure, the nicer kept ones will fetch decent money, from a person who really wants one but I do not see a lot of people wanting a model already outdated while still in production, 60 years later. The original FJ had character, the 4runner is a regular BOF 5 door SUV.
But then, for the right buyer no price is wrong.

Tell that to the Tacoma buyers. early 2000s 4wd models in good condition and under 150k are going for more than their original MSRP.

I remember plenty of cheap 3rd gens for sale, cheap because the transmissions were failing from coolant intermixing. The 5th gen doesn't have this design flaw.

They could be. But are there any takers?
I ve been looking for a LC200 for almost a year. The prices people are expecting for a 8 year old Land Cruiser is just idiotic.
Now the 80 series is a classic and I can see it going for serious money for a well kept example. But the LC200, hardly.
Seller can demand anything, but if there are no buyers that price has little meaning.

The LC was my first choice for a build vehicle. But I could buy 2 brand new 4runners for the same price as a used LC with 150k so for me it was a no brainer
