In person it'll probably remind you of a Sequoia, ans I don't mean a mini-Sequoia...

18 inch might even become the minimum like on the Tacoma hybrids.

These days if you release anything about cars early, even for a moment, losers like me with no life are there to capitalize and redistribute it far and wide. LOL

In the leaked images, the Trailhunter fender flares look matted out. Similar to the Tacoma.

He could have saved his job if it wasn’t for the numerous threads here copy-pasting that article giving credit to him, since the article was taken down.

Stole a quote from Reddit - obviously could be completely made up but makes sense to me so far.

"Former journalist here. Likely no penalty but Toyota has to be fucking pissed. They may say they will “limit or delay” info to Forbes in the future but probably nothing will come of it. Forbes may give some free or discounted advertising, or write some additional stories as goodwill."

I bet Toyota knew about the same time we did about the snafu.

I seem to recall some of the teaser pictures of the LC250 looking very close, but not quite. I wonder if it's possible that some of these images are still a little off. Or, maybe I'm being optimistic.. :notsure:

I'll say this much; even though it's been expected to be the same size as the LC/GX, I think Toyota really blew it if that's actually the case (which looks to be accurate).

They could have made a throw back to when the 4Runner was a little smaller, and made it a better off-roader, but instead they made it bigger, with longer overhangs. I just don't understand why they need so many SUV's the exact same size, in addition to 2 very similarly sized crossovers.

I'm feeling a little let down. But, I'll watch the video later and see if it makes it look any more appealing.

Fun fact: Canon (cameras) has been known to do this exact thing in the past.

They approve an 'oops' article to be published and with instructions to immediately be taken offline again 15-30m later. Done on purpose by their marketing team to build hype and get people talking before the reveal of a major new camera body or lens.

The FJ Cruiser never competed with the Wrangler. And, even though it never existed at the same time as the Bronco, it also didn't really compete with the Bronco.

maybe 4Runner has a special place in my heart that is why this redesign just doesn’t feel right. It seems like an afterthought. 4Runner may no longer have a spot in Toyotas lineup with so close vehicles. I’d rather buy a LC, if this is what they came up with. Just like I’d rather buy a grand Highlander over sequoia, because the former has more space and that is what 99% of sequoia potential buyers want, not a BoF vehicle that’s that large, necessarily.

it may die perhaps a slow death due to cannibalism across Toyotas lineup.

maybe it looks different in todays reveal, in videos or in person.

I will wait to see it in person, as the pictures aren't doing the 4Runner any justice. It almost looks like everything to the rear of the front doors was an afterthought. Let's put a door here, some iconic wrap windows here, a 5th Gen rear looking door, slap a bumper on there, and oh wait... we forgot the tail lights!!! The Honda Pilot outer tails look good, let's use that design.

Well that should change, because Toyota didn't need another 4wd 4 door fixed roof family SUV in the midsize class.

Also mad props to Toyota for being able to keep this under wraps for so long. I don't remember there ever being a vehicle this anticipated where the company managed to be the sole source for teaser images this close to release. The JL wrangler and the Bronco had photos and detailed knowledge months or even years in advanced

Looks great to my eye! it looks like the trail hunter will have the “actual“ full sized spare tire. It hangs down quite a bit. it seems like the aftermarket will still have reason to produce rear bumpers with tire carriers. Does the 2400 W inverter only come with the hybrids? I’m also wondering if the limited We have both a rear locker and a center locker? The article is a little bit vague about that. I’m betting it’s just like the current limited, but it would be cool to have a double locked forerunner with full time 4wd.

edit: I just noticed the wrap around rear quarter window. That might be vulnerable in off camber tight trails

The limited looks awful on this body style, it's trying to have hard edgy lines to look tuff off-road but then be subtle for a luxury trim.

Rear looks good except for the awful badging at the lower of the lift gate, hopefully they are just stuck there so removal is easy. Ready windows wrapping up to the roof is kinda cool.

Front end I'm not really crazy about, I really wish all these Toyota trucks didn't look so much alike. I understand why they are doing it but it's kinda lame.

Interior is decent, could do without the non integrated screen and it would look much more refined.

Turbo 4, we all knew it was coming and the way the whole industry is going right now.

Overall all I'm glad I have my 5th Gen. Have we heard word of where these will be built going forward?

Looking at the images I can’t imagine why they wanted to keep it under wraps. It’s …not…good looking vehicle.

Agreed. Making it identical to the LC just feels lazy. I thought the purpose of the TNGA-F platform was that they could easily make different sized frames. So, why is everything the same size? I know the answer, but it still seems shitty.

Maybe the reveal will provide some more compelling information. But, for now, I'm feeling somewhat relieved, as I have 0 interest in running out to trade in my '19. Of course, things could change.

i’m actually glad for the similarities with the Tacoma. It opens up the possibility of more aftermarket options. Commonality in replacement parts is also nice.

Just from the looks, my first impression is that I kinda like it. Like someone else mentioned, the back seems very 4th gen-like.

the bronze wheels on the green are awesome, I want some for my 23 Lunar Rock (are they 17” too?)

I like the black flairs..I’ve always liked those early 2010s trail editions that had them (I forget the year, 2012?)

The green and blue colors are awesome.

Still glad I got the 5th gen, definitely don’t plan on trading it in for one of these.

Yep that's 100% a hybrid thing, the lower wattage 1500W inverters on other hybrids like the Sienna is hybrid only too.

If I could sum up how it looks in one word: Machismo. Not in a good way. And I've said it before and I'll say it again, Toyota just made this a budget Land Cruiser by making it so similar in size to the LC250 and making no attempt to differentiate the target market. They had to use the TNGA platform, and that was a big constraint because they aren't even a size difference.

This is a stupid business decision. If you sell 2 similar products, one product's success comes at the others expense. If Toyota hadn't left the LC price so high to make room for the similar 4runner, I don't think this 4runner would get any sales the LC wouldn't get. Certainly not enough to justify both their similar existences

Agreed. I was hoping they would make the 4Runner a better competitor for the Bronco, but it doesn't seem like that happened.
