Definitely not, they've had sales numbers from the start and their operation end-to-end is likely too big to say "jk!" and pivot at the first sign of a delay. I heard 2024's have stopped being produced and I'd guess the other vehicles coming out of Tahara can probably pick up any slack.

Every generation owner complains of ruining the new generation. It's all been downhill after the 1st gen 4R.

 

I would just wait for the 2030 model to come out....here are some spy photos!

 

And yet each generation sells well. But I guess that remains to be seen with the new Taco, which isn't showing great sales numbers so far compared to previous 3rd gen.

 

Doug Demuro wrote some comment somewhere on Reddit around the time the 6th gen was unveiled about how he remembers when the 4th gen “wasn’t a real 4Runner” and when that treatment happened to the 5th as well when it was new.

 

Part of me wants to move to Australia and wait for 47 year waitlist to get the 70 series LC that are being sold there.

 

Depending on what you’re looking for, for the steep price of a brand new 70-series down under, why not:

find or commission something along the lines of a restored 2nd or 3rd gen?

Import/buy an imported a 25+ year old 70 series? You could try to bolt-on newer components too.

Just because people always complain the new generation is worse, doesn’t mean they aren’t right. People are complaining about the things lost to history. This is the time to reflect on what it was, and what will be no more.

We should grieve what has successively been lost over the generations: Front solid axles, small/nimble size, good interior packaging, multimode 4wd in SR5 trims, a big honkin V8option, and the reliability granted by having the same basic engine design for 20 years. Oh, and real bump stops.

Soon, people will find it too painful to remember and the 6th gen will become the new darling. The youts, having never known what was, will look at the old guard and wonder why they don’t like change.

When the 7th gen comes, the same youts will complain it’s not a real 4runner because it’s now the full width of an interstate lane, it’s has rear independent suspension, 22in wheels are stock on the base model, bench seats in the back are replaced by standard 4ft wide captain’s chairs that don’t fold, and it weighs 12,000lbs.

 

It'll be 2040 before we see the 7th Gen and it will start at 50k for the base. Wonder how many of us will be alive to see it?

 

Probably not me. I'm getting tired of everything going on here on earth and looking for something better.

LOL. What can I say, I have a flare for the dramatic. I was a bit tongue in cheek, but kinda not really, if you know what I mean. It’s just a silly 4runner, hardly the most important thing. But the topic made a good vehicle (see what I did there?) to make the point that it’s important to hear what people are saying when they complain about the direction things are going. Today’s “youngins” that will be complaining about 14 foot wide 4runners in 20 years time, will also be right. And the future-future world will be better if they understand what their complaints are really saying.

One thing is for sure though, I need to figure out a way to post on here using a typewriter…mostly for the dramatic effect

Yes have to look at the positives. Maybe they corrected the rear the garnish issue from scratching the rear hatch paint. This was an opportunity to fix those things

Insanity. There’s also too many different model types. 16 different models then all the different colors equals way too many variations. The chances that your local dealer will have want you want is slim.

 

Are you still looking forward to paying for a 6th gen? Note there's no SR5 Premium this time around.

 

I suspect some trims will disappear by facelift time 3 years from now. I mean, do Limited and Platinum need to coexist?

 

Are they also going to have upgrade packages for each of these models like the new Tacomas?
