Putting a tumble seat in a two row vehicle is just dumb and lazy. Either make two types of seats or don’t offer a third row option at all. Do they even sell many three row 4Runners? I’ve never seen one in person.

It’s pretty weird. It’s like a rock climbing finger grab.

Time to add an aftermarket chalk bag to the passenger door.

    No it doesn't.

Remember when everyone was bitching about the 5th gen not having a grab handle on the driver side? What did they do?

They bought a grab handle and put one on themselves. It's not hard.

Did that lack of a grab handle represent the 5th gen?

It would make sense if it had a different angle to it.

If only Toyota had used a diesel like the 3.0 Chevy has, the 4Runner would have had tons of power and likely 26 on the highway. That would have had me rethinking keeping my 5th Gen.

It is BEYOND an absurd seat. Your head literally would touch the rear class if it wasn't for the headrest. You're in there like a pretzel, and worse. You'll get testicular torsion.

It was a misunderstanding in translation. When told that 4Runner buyers were into Rock Crawling the designers in Japan mistook it for Rock Climbing. Simple misunderstanding

Laugh away , you're in the 1 % when comes to wanting a diesel. The amount of emissions crap built into them now is not worth it . People whine about the cost of a battery in a hybrid to replace, if something goes on a diesel out of warranty it's thousands to repair.

Newer emissions regulations have ruined diesels.

I'll gladly take a non-stinky turbo gas engine that makes way better torque than the outgoing 4.0.

Interestingly the front coilover mounts are single-shear on the 4Runner:

    Vs. double-shear on the Tacoma:

That's pretty interesting, I'm surprised to see single-shear spring mounts at all.

I also don't like the gap where you can see the radiator (where the plastic piece goes on the 5th gen). Don't aftermarket skids usually address that gap?

Perhaps this is pre-production and they will change it? Because that's really weird

Actually that's a logo from Toyota which they use for their trucks.

The "T' design is also found in the shape of the taillights of the new Tundra, turned sideways of course. And more loosely, at the top of the tailgate with the indentations.

It looks like there are some mounting holes for a piece to cover that gap. I hope so otherwise all kinds of crap is going to get stuck in there.

No. Aftermarket skids typically end at the crossmember. Some aftermarket bumpers address that gap. May be better this way since you'll have to remove the skid at every oil change, thanks to the sideways canister filter. The GX550 design looks very time-consuming to service, with the overlapping tinfoil skids and plastic closeout panel.
Upon further review, the GX550 lower shock mount is also single-shear. The GX550 sway bar mounts in front of the LCA because of e-KDSS. This looks to be a case where frame and suspension parts are shared with the GX/LC, while the body parts are shared with the Tacoma.

Edit: dunno why mods are shadowbanning links but you can see the renderings on 4runner6g.com

I hope we get some more exciting color choices than the Tacoma, which has Solar Octane but I'm not a fan. Let's see a bright green or blue like Electric Lime or Voodoo Blue, which look great.

I’d imagine the single shear won’t be an actual problem though, right? The lower shock mounts on our current rear axles are also single shear and I’ve never heard of any issues…well, besides dragging them over rocks.

Well, now that I think about it, I suppose it isn’t the greatest to drag the front mounting bolt or shock, or slip off a rock and fall on it.

If I recall though, the rear might not be purely single sheer (at least the bolt itself isn’t)…due to the lower shock mount eye having to slip over a fairly thick threaded tube. The bolt itself goes into that tube.

If it doesn't show off that the Tacoma has a physical light control and the Colorado doesn't I will be very disappointed.

It's not a problem if it's designed properly.

Rear axle is a different situation: that bolt isn't carrying the weight of the car. (Separate springs and shocks)

Oooh, Good point! The rear shock mount hardly takes any force at all besides damping forces. Hmmm. Okay, yeah, I guess I’d wonder if a the single shear is up for the task.

    So this is amazing!

TheTopher has a video of the Taco TRD OR and he said he got 29 MPG during his drive. He says that for the most part these 2.4 i-Force and 8-speed can do mid to upper 20s MPGs. He talks about it at 13:40 mark.

I really hope this is what to be expected from the 6th gen 4R. I love my 5th gen and I already knew how bad the fuel efficiency was, but the 6th gen having the same Taco MPGs is a huge gamechanger. Yes it won't be as bulletproof as our 1GR-FEs, but should be pretty damn reliable before the rust eats the frame.
